Carmona

The municipality of Carmona, Cavite is perhaps every sports enthusiast’s piece of heaven. An hour’s drive away from the bustling streets of Metro Manila, the so-called “Sports Capital of Cavite” is a convenient and accessible choice for weekend trips.

Formerly called Latag (“plain”) and was once considered a barrio of Silang during the Spanish colonial period, Carmona has many to offer anyone looking for a fun day out in the sun.

Those who enjoy the thrilling pump of adrenaline unique to karting and motorcycle racing can head to the Carmona Racing Circuit to watch or take part in the races. If you prefer something more casual than a race, the Carmona Racing Circuit has what they call “track days” where you can do your laps around the circuit at your own speed and discretion.

The San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park is the go-to place for horse racing in the country. Try your luck and place a bet on your chosen racer and sit tight as you watch the horses speed past. There is also a casino in the area should you wish to try your luck elsewhere.

While baseball may not be as popular as basketball and volleyball in the country, the Carmona Baseball Academy is ready and available for those want to learn more about the sport. For golf lovers and those who simply prefer leisure over thrill, The Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club has two golf courses, the Masters and the Legends, and a sports club housing badminton, tennis and basketball courts as well as bowling lanes and swimming pools.

Those who prefer to find their thrills up in the sky, tandem paragliding (paragliding with a certified pilot) is a popular activity in Carmona. Schedule a slot with the many pilots offering their services in the area and enjoy the breathtaking view high above the Carmona Ridge.

If sports aren’t your cup of tea, support the local farmers by buying fresh produce while learning more about organic farming at the Carmona Organic Demo Farm. Spend the day shopping and relaxing at Paseo de Carmona and its numerous retail stores and salons.

All those fun-filled activities will surely make you hungry. Make sure to try the binalot, which is basically a meal composed of rice and viand sometimes accompanied by vegetable sides encased in banana leaves. Aling Nene’s Special Binalot is a popular, well-loved favorite among tourists and visitors alike.
