Catarman

Catarman is a municipality in the Camiguin island province, at Bohol Sea, just off the northern coast of Mindanao. Several of Camiguin’s tourist spots are here in this town. Volcanic activity submerged a large part of this town, which accounts for the ruins you can now see and visit in this area.

The Sunken Cemetery is a graveyard submerged in water from an 18th century volcanic eruption from the now-dormant Mount Vulcan. A cross commemorates this tragic event, as well as those who lie in their watery graves. This used to be part of the municipality of Bonbon, but has now been transferred to the town of Catarman.

The Gui-ob Church Ruins are also worth a visit. This church was destroyed by volcanic debris, leaving only its ruins and a bell tower. You can also see a lighthouse erected much more recently close by.

This area also has a number of natural attractions, like natural pools and falls.

The Sto. Niño Cold Springs is a popular area to go for a dip. It is a natural spring 2 meters deep, with convenient man-made amenities like huts, facilities and a restaurant nearby. For a unique kind of natural pool, there is the Bura Natural Soda Water Swimming Pool which gets its carbonation from the Bura volcanic springs.

As for the waterfalls, there are the Katibawasan Falls, as well as the Tuasan Falls which both have deep, clear fresh water running through them.
