Greenhills

Mention the name “Greenhills” and most people will instantly think of the Greenhills Shopping Center. But in truth, Greenhills also represents a district in San Juan whose streets are teeming with various cuisines and foodie havens just waiting to be discovered.

One of the district’s main attractions is the famous shopping and dining destination, the Greenhills Shopping Center, where locals and foreigners alike flock to find the best bargain deals. The complex also houses the Music Museum, a dining space and entertainment theater that hosts a wide variety of music acts.

You’ll also find a wide variety of options along the streets outside of Greenhills Shopping Center. Venture to the nearby Connecticut Street and enjoy the homey ambiance of Angel’s Kitchen while munching on their famous dish, Pinakbet Rice and Lechon Kawali with Chocolate Bagoong.

The street is also home to Om Lifestyle + Café, a quaint Indian lifestyle store and restaurant where you can enjoy the authentic flavors of their well-loved traditional Indian dishes. You can also get your fix of Japanese cuisine at the Konbini Japanese Store, a restaurant and convenience store that carries all kinds of Japanese food items.

Head on over to Annapolis Street for that South Korean cafe experience at Café 7 Gram, an up-and-coming joint reminiscent of Korea’s famous coffee shops. With warm wooden interiors, carpeted floors, and four segregated private dining spaces, the cafe is an ideal hangout for those looking to relax or study in a peaceful environment.

Other restaurants in the Annapolis area include the popular French restaurant Brasserie Cicou and the Greenhills Uno Seafood Palace, which serves authentic Chinese cuisine. You’ll also find a number of staple restaurants in Madison Square like Sunrise Buckets and Lord Stow’s Bakery.

One quirky joint you shouldn’t miss is Cops and Robbers, which has become a popular after-school hangout for Xavier students thanks to its fun ambiance, budget eats, and strategic location in front of Xavier school. The place stays true to its playful jailhouse theme by sporting industrial interiors, a jail booth, and a backdrop perfect for snapping mugshots with friends.

You’ll also find the family-style Maria Maria restaurant nearby, which is home to local culinary delights enjoyed by the prominent Ejercito clan. Sample some of the family’s heirloom dishes like Ribs in Love and Taguntong, made by cooking Tanay freshwater shrimp in chilies and coconut cream.

Art lovers will surely enjoy a visit to the Ronac Art Gallery, an unusual and modern-looking building along Ortigas Avenue. The gallery’s quirky vibe extends into the building itself, where you’ll find a giant spiral staircase, casual dining spots, a yogurt bar, a design studio, a basketball court, lifestyle boutiques, and, of course, a contemporary art gallery.

Once you’re done exploring all the foodie and art hubs, grab a drink or two at McLaren’s Pub along Wilson Street. Inspired by the popular international television show How I Met Your Mother, McLaren features warm interiors and cozy booths that are perfect for relaxing with friends after a long day.
