Guiuan

Back in 2013, when the devastating super typhoon Haiyan ravaged the country, Guiuan was the first to feel its wrath. This small town in Eastern Samar is home to almost 50,000 residents. It is located in the southernmost tip of Samar and now a couple of years later, the municipality is stronger than ever, with its people continually building and restoring what the storm destroyed in their home.

And as a matter of fact, Guiuan is the site where Ferdinand Magellan first docked in the Philippines and where American forces landed before heading off into battle in 1944. Guiuan is not only rich with history but it is also adorned with beautiful beaches. Being the considered as the best fishing belt in the region, the municipality is no stranger to aquatic and marine life in the area. It is also the town with the most island barangays.

The town has been known to be a hotspot for visitors who love to swim and surf. With dozens of hotels, resorts, and surf camps all over its islands, Guiuan is a haven for adventure-seekers and beach bums alike.

Aside from that, however, Guiuan is also home to one of the oldest churches in the country: the Church of the Immaculate Conception. With this much historical value and natural attractions to see in one place, how can you not come and visit Eastern Samar? It’s not a burn-a-hole-in-your-wallet type of trip either. So what are you waiting for?
