Legazpi Village

The metropolitan area of Makati Central Business District (CBD) is known for its glass buildings, speedy taxis and polished businesspeople. But in the downtown area of CBD lies Legazpi Village, a homey yet urbane haven for curious minds and bellies.

Legazpi Village is a business park built by the Ayala Corporation, but has become more known as the place to go for unique eats in the city. Named after Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, a Spanish explorer who became the first governor of the Philippines, the village will definitely bring out the conquistador foodie in you.

Following the third wave coffee movement will bring you to three cafes in Legazpi Village. One is The Curator, perfect for coffee aficionados who believe that the good coffee is best enjoyed with good conversation. Another is the minimalist space of Yardstick, where specialty coffee is blended with chocolatey, nutty, or fruity flavors. If you wish to add a pump of inspiration to your cup, visit Local Edition, where different artists, brands, or designers share their passions every two months.

If you want to discover the flavors of Asia but don’t have the time to do so, just head to Legazpi Village. Exquisite Indian, Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino restaurants are all just a stone’s throw away from each other, a delight to all travellers out there.

Guests looking for a night out of drinks off the beaten path will find their oasis in Legazpi Village. Speakeasy bars like The Blind Pig and Exit Bar will not only serve cleverly named cocktails and bar chow, but also give you the thrill of finding hidden entrances and gaining access to (not so-) secret clubs.

Spend your Sunday morning at the Legazpi Sunday Market. The market’s been up for over 12 years and holds hundreds of vendors selling anything from artwork to fresh seafood. Visitors can try Filipino classics like lechon pugon (slow-roasted pork belly), bibingka (rice cake), and kare-kare (oxtail or ox tripe stew), or international cuisine like paellas, curries, and dimsum.

Catch a break from city life or get moving in Legazpi Village’s parks. The Washington Sycip Park is a great place to unwind, relax, and reconnect with nature. The park is lined with stone paths and bridges connecting gazebos and ponds, and is beautifully lit at night.

Right across the Washington Sycip Park is the Legazpi Active Park, which has a jogging trail, open space for sports like frisbee, football, and badminton, and a playground.

Shoppers with a taste for high-end couture and timeless fashion pieces can call Archives d’Homme et Femme their second home. This outlet store is part of the Homme et Femme company, which holds brands like Fred Perry, Balenciaga, and Comme des Garcons. Archives is a collection of clothes from said brands, sold at marked down prices. The store’s ground floor also features a pop-up stand that sells coffee from The Curator.
