Loay is a small town in the province of Bohol. This small municipality of a little over 16,000 people is home to dozens of natural and historical attractions that would excite any visitor.
Unfortunately, Loay was one of the most hard hit municipalities during 2013’s disastrous earthquake. However, they have now recuperated and are now back on their feet. One of the most severely damaged structures of the town was the Loay Church. Built during the Spanish Colonial Era, the church had its own buttresses to keep it standing in case of a calamity.
And so it did. But the belfry had toppled on the church’s roof. Still looking grand, but a little ruined, the church can still be visited in Loay. But if you really want to get a taste of what this town has to offer, try their famous Loay River Cruise.
The tour is basically lunch in a restaurant on a boat while floating down the river. The sounds of nature will be the only music in this restaurant. The river is surrounded by a forest, which makes for a marvelous view.
