Northern Mindanao is made up of 5 provinces: Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, and the island of Camiguin. The varied landscape of mountains, forests, and beaches is coupled with a cool climate, making this region an up and coming tourist destination.
The landlocked terrain of Bukidnon attracts mountaineers and thrill-seekers to its forests and mountains. Venture the rainforests of San Fernando, which is nicknamed “Little Baguio” due to its cool climate.
Fly over lush greens on the longest zipline in Asia, which can be found in the Dahilayan Adventure Park. Take a look at two of the world’s rarest but stinkiest flora, rafflesia and elephant foot yam, in Baungon. More adventurous spirits can go spelunking in the caves of Sumilao. Bukidnon makes up for its lack of beaches with springs and natural pools.
Explore the Northern Mindanao province of Misamis Oriental. Dive to the underwater world of the Banauag House Reef or venture the narrow Monigue Cave. Get your adrenaline fix while white water rafting in the university town of Cagayan de Oro, the capital of Misamis Oriental.
Visit the island paradise of Camiguin, which has more volcanoes per square kilometer than any island in the world. Dip into hot, cold, or soda water springs, which are perfect after rappelling down the Katibawasan Falls. The picture-perfect sandbar White Island is the best place to kick back, dig your feet in the sand, and bathe in the summer sun.
For a scenic backdrop, head to the province of Lanao del Norte, which is ridden with waterfalls— there are 20 in the area. Trek up 500 steps to the hidden gem in the mountains, Tinago Falls. Spend a day in the National Power Corporation Nature Park in Iligan City, which houses the Maria Cristina Falls. Other activities in the park include rock climbing, ziplining, and canyoneering.
Animal lovers will enjoy a trip to Misamis Occidental. This hilly province is home to an Aquamarine Park, which includes a mini zoo in the mangroves. The park is a short boat ride away from Dolphin Island, a man-made sanctuary where rescued dolphins are nursed back to health before being released back into the wild.
Relax in the waters of Lake Duminagat in Misamis Occidental. This crater lake that was formed by Mt. Malindang eruptions is said to have healing powers.
