Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur is a first class city which prides itself with natural wonders like springs, waterfalls, caves and rich marine life. Located in the outskirts of Pagadian are the Lourdes Hot and Cold Springs where the young and old alike can soak in nature’s spa. It’s also Pagadian’s primary source of water which they call kagawasan, or in Cebuano means, “to come out of.” Among these springs, adventurers can also explore the Lison Valley Falls, Ditoray Falls, Pulacan Falls and Manga Falls.
Pulacan Falls is perfect for camping and picnicking. Easily accessible through motorbike, this waterfalls is the easiest to access in Pagadian. It also is a popular outing site for Boy and Girl Scouts, so it’s safe for your kids.
Manga Falls, are waterfalls that collide atop each other, covered with huge trees. Monkeys usually dwell in this place, which makes it a little more Jungle Book-esque. It’s perfect for letting your Instagram followers know how much of a risk taker you are. It’s currently being prepared to be a tourist destination but soon, it will be open for all. Other than flowing bodies of water, hidden treasures in Pagadian include the Twin Caves, situated near Manga Falls and the Kendis Cave.
Kendis Cave is only accessible through horseback, so if you’re up for a little trekking on a horse, you’re good to go! The Cave has twin chambers and large crevices forming beautiful rock formations.
The Pagadians also have a palate for good food. Greenhouse Fishing Station and Restaurant has a large fish pond where you can have any of their seafood cooked any way you want. You can feast on their scallops, shrimps, and other seafood favorites. Another must-visit is the 2-Peso barbeque (yes, ₱2!) they sell in Plaza Luz, just look for the hawker stalls and you have a budget-friendly and delicious dinner!
Finally, Pagadian is home to the Dao Dao Island and their very own White Beach. Dao Dao, having artificial coral reefs to sustain their marine life, is also ideal for swimming and fishing. A great way to end the trip (or start it!). The White Beach, on the other hand, is a long stretch of white sand, surrounded by crystal blue waters, also perfect for swimming and relaxing.
Pagadian City is great for for families who want to spend some time in an unfamiliar yet safe environment, and for the group of friends who want to explore more of the Philippines.
