Pangasinan

Pangasinan

The Philippines is a country of 7,107 islands and Pangasinan is home to over 100 of them.

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the province is the Hundred Islands National Park in the town of Alaminos. Here you can island hop to your heart’s content.

There are three main islands here that have been developed for tourism, Quezon Island, Children’s Island and Governor’s Island, although you can visit the other 90-plus areas for some secluded alone time. You can also choose to rent a room at any one of the three developed islands or you can choose to rough it out and camp under the stars.

Bolinao is another popular tourist destination within the province. The town is home to the Bolinao Falls, Bolinao Beach, Enchanted Cave, and Cape Bolinao.

Bolinao Falls is a small waterfall, barely a few feet tall, located within the dense forest of the town. You can choose to take a dip in the falls’ clear blue basin or just enjoy the view. Bolinao Beach is also nearby for those who’d rather spend the day working on their tan.

Not too far from Bolinao Beach is the Enchanted Cave. Found inside a mountain of corals, the cave features crystal clear waters where visitors can take a swim. The cave is popular among locals because it was a filming location for one of the country’s top teleseryes (soap operas).

Cape Bolinao is home to the country’s second tallest lighthouse, the Cape Bolinao Lighthouse. Climb to the top and you’ll be able to see the West Philippine Sea in all its glory.

Manaoag town is one of the popular destinations for devotees of the Virgin Mary. The Our Lady of Manaoag shrine can be found here and it’s famous for its supposed healing powers. Visit the town on the Wednesday after Easter, the shrine’s feast day, to truly experience Filipino Catholic devotion.

Pangasinan is also known for the bangus (milkfish). Dagupan City, dubbed the “Bangus Capital of the Philippines,” is where you can find the fish cooked into any dish imaginable. Make sure to try it out in its grilled form though, usually served with toyo (soy sauce), suka (vinegar), and calamansi.
