San Jose City
San Jose, located in Nueva Ecija, is a thriving city in the northernmost area of the province. In the pre-Spanish era, the city was known as the Kabatiran, a plant that was common to the area. Given its vast land and abundance of natural beauty, it is no surprise that San Jose is also known for its agriculture, a common source of livelihood in the area. Today, it is also known to be the “Onion Capital of the Philippines,” as seen in the yearly celebration of the Tanduyong (onion) Festival every fourth Sunday of April.
There are two notable parks in the city: Diamond Park and Freedom Park. Diamond Park, located at the gateway to the famous Cagayan Valley, has plenty of forestry that proves to be a good picnic spot or outdoor adventure. Climb its 100-step stairway and enjoy a scenic view of Nueva Ecija’s northern area while catching your breath from the exercise. Visit Freedom Park, a park named in recognition of the province’s history and noble contribution during the fight for Philippine Independence after World War II.
Located in the outskirts of the city, the Palaspas Falls in Manicla proves to be promising. The waterfalls is hidden behind a thick undergrowth and tree branches, which makes for a beautiful but admittedly eerie sight.
