Added to the list of hidden treasures in the Philippines is the town of Santa Cruz in the province of Marinduque. Home to several natural formations, Santa Cruz has got to be one of the more underrated towns in the entire country. The town has beaches, caves, and waterfalls galore! Absolutely perfect for a weekend getaway with your friends, and it’s not too pricey either so you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank!
For those who want to experience the thrill of adventure, go to the San Isidro Cave. Also known as the Bagumbungan Cave, what is hidden within will make you want to plan your trip right now! The cave has an underground river and is great for swimming. The cave, still relatively unexplored, can be toured with the help of trained guides.
Other than that, the town is also home to two known waterfalls. The Busay Falls and Kawa-kawa Falls are popular to both the locals and visitors for its cool and relaxing water. The place is perfect for swimming. Covered in greenery and also teeming with wildlife, nature-lovers would just have a field day in these waterfalls.
Like many of our coastal areas, Marinduque has islands that belong to its territory. There are three islands that are under Santa Cruz’s jurisdiction. The Mongpong Island which has the Ungab Natural Arch, the Maniwaya Island which has a circular sand bar nearby, and the Polo Island. All Islands are covered in beige sand and has clear waters. The Maniwaya Island is by far, the most popular island. It is now dotted with resorts to host visitors who want to stay for a while. Not far from the island is the Palad Sand Bar, a circular patch of powdery sand and surrounded by blue water and visitors just can’t get enough of it!
