Santa Rosa

Originally seen as a pit stop for those making their way to Tagaytay, Santa Rosa in Laguna is slowly making itself known as a top shopping, recreational, and residential area.

The city is home to Enchanted Kingdom (EK), the country’s first theme park. The park features seven zones, each having its own theme.

A favorite zone in the park is the Spaceport, inspired by science fiction films and the space age of the 1960s. The zone has the Space Shuttle, the first shuttle coaster in the country. The park also features the country’s only inflatable water park, only available during the scorching summer months.

Bargain shoppers should head over to Santa Rosa. Paseo de Santa Rosa, the city’s first shopping complex, is home to numerous outlet stores, ranging from local brands like Bench to foreign ones like Adidas and Nike.

The shopping complex also houses a number of restaurants and cafes. It’s also mostly open-air and has an outdoor stage, making it an ideal venue for outdoor concerts and events.

Santa Rosa is growing to be quite the residential area, thanks to new developments like Berkeley Heights and Nuvali.

Nuvali, in particular, is not just a subdivision but is a popular area for recreational activities too. It has a park featuring a lake where you can feed fish and explore the area in a water taxi. You can also have a picnic along the river bank. The community has a few biking trails and birdwatching areas as well.

Santa Rosa also has a few historical places that you can explore with your family. The Museo de Santa Rosa highlights the city’s history and showcases artifacts like old furniture and cooking utensils that date back to the time of the Spanish colonization.

And although the area itself isn’t open to the public, the Cuartel de Santo Domingo is a treat for architecture fans. The old Spanish barracks can be viewed from the outside, where a historical marker explains its significance.

Santa Rosa may not have a lot to offer, but it’s certainly a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Metro Manila.
