SM Mall of Asia

SM Mall of Asia

Located in Pasay City and overlooking the Manila Bay, the SM Mall of Asia, or “MOA”, is composed of four interconnected buildings, with one main mall, a mostly open-air entertainment mall and two parking structures. When the mall opened in 2006, it was the largest one in the country—although nowadays that title has been taken over by its sister mall, SM Megamall.

If shopping is your thing, then this place is perfect for you. The SM Mall of Asia has more than 1,000 stores ranging from foreign luxury brands to local ones, as well as over 300 restaurants. If you’d rather spend your money on something else, the mall has an IMAX theatre and an Olympic-sized skating rink, both of which were the country’s first. The mall has a science center too: The EXPLOREUM, which houses eight interactive gallery exhibits.

Apart from the mall, the surrounding areas, known as the SM Mall of Asia Complex, also house the SM Mall of Asia Arena and concert grounds as well as the SMX Convention Center.

The SM Mall of Asia Arena is the perfect place to catch a concert or a basketball game. It is one of the country’s largest indoor arenas, with a total seating capacity of 20,000 people. It is currently the home of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and is the alternative venue for the Philippine Basketball Association. The Arena opened in 2012, with its first event being a Lady Gaga concert.

The SMX Convention Center is a popular venue for concerts too, as well as numerous industry conventions and exhibitions like Philippine Fashion Week and the Manila International Book Fair.

But a must-see in the SM Mall of Asia Complex is the Mall of Asia Eye, a 55-ft ferris wheel. One of the tallest ferris wheel in the country, the Mall of Asia Eye features 36 air-conditioned gondolas, each having a carrying capacity of six people. The Eye gives you a great view of Manila Bay and is the perfect cap-off to your day in the SM Mall of Asia.
