Socorro

Socorro, Surigao del Norte is the perfect place to go to if you’re soul-searching and want to stray from popular places. This small, lone island in the east of Surigao del Norte is decorated with majestic turquoise waters and pale white beaches. Also called Bucas Grande Island, Socorro is tiny with more or less 20,000 inhabitants. It’s a travel destination only a few know about. But for those who do, they say that Socorro cannot be equated to the likes of Boracay or El Nido combined.

Nowadays, both foreign and local tourists come to the island to have a taste of its serene ambience. It is a melting pot of locals that hail from all over the country. Regarded as one of the most relaxed municipalities in the Philippines, Bucas Grande is the place to be if you want to take a break from it all and experience the serenity and majesty of the southern Philippines.

Sohoton Cove is the most popular tourist destination in the island, it has spell-binding qualities that make you want to keep coming back for more. There are seven islets inside the cove, it is perfect for an island hopping adventure! The cove is the entrance to the blue lagoon, an enchanting body of water that houses Hagukan Sea-Cave, Magkukuob Cavern, and the Dawongdong wall. The wall is decorated with a variety of flora species that make it all the more astounding. It is picturesque and elegant.

Upon entering Sohoton, you may even opt to visit the Jellyfish Sanctuary. The best time to visit the place is from July to August, when it’s the jellyfish spawning season! You can stay on the boat or even swim with them! It’s truly a wonder to behold.

In Makukuob Cavern, visitors are supposed to swim through a low-ceiling cave and at the end are encouraged to jump off of a cliff. Adrenaline junkies would love this stop. Aside from that, tourists may also want to visit Kapihan Nature and Adventure Park where you’ll be taken to the highest point of the island and be able to see the entire place from all corners. You may also want to ride the zipline going down.

Adventures are not hard to find in Bucas Grande, all you have to be is daring and brave.
