Subic

Subic, a municipality in Zambales, was originally referred to by the locals as “Hubek," meaning “head of a plough.” The name was consistently mispronounced by the Spaniards and Americans before it finally became Subic instead of Subiq. Known for its famous Subic Bay, Subic is known for its beaches, wildlife, biodiversity, diving areas, and resorts like the Camayan or Court Meridian Hotel.

A trip to Subic Bay Freeport Zone will give you plenty of chances to see and interact with the monkeys in the area. Being naturally friendly creatures, monkeys can be spotted on your drives around Subic. For the adventure seekers, Miracle and Camayan Beach make for perfect reef dives and shipwreck exploring underwater.

Native to Zambales, the Aeta indigenous people also reside in the area. Should you decide to go camping, the Apaliin trail is recommended; one may even get a chance to encounter and interact with the Aeta people along the way.

For adrenaline junkies, the Subic Treetop Adventure is a must-try, as it will allow you to zipline hundreds of feet in the air, giving you the right amount of thrill while enjoying the scenic views of the landscape and miles of forestry. Ocean Adventure is also an option for those interested in getting a closer look at diverse marine life, while the Zoobic Safari brings you into the world of reptiles, serpents, and tigers. One of the Zoobic Safari’s main attractions is the Tiger Safari, as you are given the chance to drive inside the Siberian tigers’ habitat — and maybe even get a chance to see the tiger devour fresh meat by the bars of your vehicle.

Subic, often referred to as “the Philippines’ top playground for sports and extreme adventures,” definitely has more to offer beyond beaches and wildlife, as its environment makes it an ideal spot for hiking, biking, and fun water activities like kayaking and parasailing. With the variety of recreational activities and sightseeing opportunities, Subic is definitely not one to bore.
