Tagum, Davao, with over 200,000 occupants, is the most populated city in both Mindanao and Visayas. But even with its number of people, it is still regarded as one of the most livable cities in the Philippines and also the most child-friendly city. Lined with palm trees all over the metro, it puts the streets of Los Angeles to shame.
Tagum is often regarded as the City of Festivals because of all the fiestas they hold during different times of the year. They surely have a lot to celebrate to. Their festivals include, Araw ng Tagum (March), Summer Sports Festival (May), and the Durian Festival (July to August) where they offer the lowest rate for their durian (perfect for those who crave this fruit!). There’s also the Binuhat Festival which is held in July to celebrate the LGBT community. Tagum is one of the few cities in the Philippines that actually do this. Other festivals also include Kaimonan Festival, Pakaradjan Festival, Indayog sa Tagum, Halal Food Festival, and the biggest festival of the city: Musikahan sa Tagum.
Tagum City is also known as the Music Capital of the South. Musicians and music-lovers alike love to dwell in the city during this festival. It promotes love for Filipino music and is an avenue of young Filipino artists to excel and appreciate the art. The festival includes holding music competitions and several other activities in line with the theme. In 2010, the festivities extended to people who live outside of Tagum, with participants even hailing from the North. The signature Tagum festival met its all-time high in 2011 when it even made it international with competition joiners from Asia, Europe, and America!
One of its hidden treasures include the Largest Rosary in the World. Located at the back of the Christ the King Cathedral, which is also famous for its unusual architecture, it’s popular amongst religious people who want to show their devotion to Mama Mary.
Tagum City is home to a vibrant people who want to celebrate everyone from all walks of life, making it charming to everyone from around the world. Tagum City, is after all, is also called the City of Harmony.
