Taytay

Formerly the capital of Palawan, Taytay isn’t as busy as it once was. Now it is a small, quiet, and peaceful town. But, it still is beautiful. This unexplored piece of heaven absolutely needs to be part of the list of places to visit in Palawan. Everyone knows about Puerto Princesa, El Nido, and Coron, but Taytay is just as beautiful and is only a couple of hours away from these places. And it’s cheaper here as well!

Similar to the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, Taytay has its own signage nestled atop one of the mountains which can be seen from anywhere in town. It looks great in pictures and it gives the town a sense of unity because it’s always in sight.

Taytay is home to one of the country’s old forts, as well as dozens of unspoiled natural attractions. Fuerza de Santa Isabel was one of the most important fortresses of the Philippine Forces a couple of years ago. It still stands tall and grand today, despite its upper side having been subjected to bombing in the past. The fort is now a popular tourist destination where it houses a mini-museum in the second level and a garden on the top. The small exhibit displays a skeleton of a sea creature that found its way to Palawan a couple of decades ago. Along with the exhibit are other relics from the past.

The fort is overlooking the beautiful sea of Palawan. And you get to have a scenic view of the entire town of Taytay, as well. Watching the sunset from the fort is absolutely amazing. What a wonder it must have been during its prime.

After that, you should go island hopping! The seas of Taytay, like the rest of Palawan, is dotted with gorgeous coral reefs: the perfect diving sites! But of course, do not touch or ruin anything! We have to preserve what beauty our world has to offer, right? You can see different coral formations and species, and of course a dazzling array of fishes while snorkeling in the Coral Garden. The waters are deep, so better be safe and wear a life jacket!

Island hopping is a great activity for you and your friends. There are a lot of destinations to see, from the virgin islands of Nabat Island and Malutamban Island to Baras Farm Island and Elephant Island. If you really want to get in touch with your inner mermaid, Taytay really is the place to be!
