Tomas Morato

When it comes to finding delicious eats in Quezon City, Tomas Morato Avenue is definitely one of your best bets. This popular food district, named after Filipino politician and businessman Tomas Morato, houses rows of restaurants along its main avenue and adjacent streets.

Tomas Morato is the perfect place to get your fill of comfort food. Take a walk around the area and you’ll find restaurants that cater to every kind of budget and cuisine.

The street is home to staples like Chili’s, Max’s Restaurant, Burgoo, and Banapple, along with many other unique restaurants that are well worth discovering. Adventurous foodies can try local favorites like Lola Cafe + Bar, Relish, Buenisimo by Cafe Ysabel, and the Latin American chicken joint Señor Pollo.

If it’s a sugar rush that you crave, the Tomas Morato strip offers a wide variety of dessert places that are sure to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. One day isn’t enough to cover every store, but you can start with the famous chiffon delights of Estrel’s Caramel Cakes, the sugary macarons of Mrs. Graham’s Macaron Cafe, or the baked goods of Fleur De Lys, Purple Oven, and Everyday Mom.

Once you’ve finished eating, hit one of the area’s many party spots with your friends. You can play beer pong at en Route Distillery, sing your heart out at one of the strip’s many karaoke TV bars, or dance to the DJ’s hottest tunes at popular nightlife joints like Prime Upscale Club, Vanity Superclub, and Area 05 Superclub.

And if you’re looking for something a little geekier, try playing tabletop games over cocktails at Ludo Boardgame Bar & Cafe or chilling with fellow game, comic book, and art enthusiasts at Uno Morato.

Those who’ve already come from a long day or tiring night out can de-stress at Soneva Spa or Blue Water Day Spa, where guests can watch movies while enjoying treatments like foot reflexology and manicures. You can also drop by Bikram Yoga Manila for a relaxing session of yoga.

Visitors might find themselves wondering about the streets connected to Tomas Morato that are named after certain scouts. These actually pay homage to 22 Filipino boy scouts who died in a plane accident on their way to the 11th World Scout Jamboree.

Tomas Morato, on the other hand, was originally named Sampaloc Avenue after the many sampaloc, or tamarind, trees planted by former president Manuel Quezon and Tomas Morato himself. Now, only two of these sampaloc trees remain, so you might want to keep an eye out for these small pieces of history during your visit.
