Urdaneta Village

Barangay Urdaneta, one of the four barangays that makes up the Central Business District of Makati, is named after the exclusive, private subdivision within its boundaries. Known generally as Urdaneta Village, this area is used for residential, business, and commercial purposes.

One of the most famous landmarks in this area of the Central Business District is The Peninsula Manila. Opened in 1976, this luxury hotel dubbed as the “Jewel in the Capital’s Crown” offers timeless elegance to the otherwise busy and very on-the-go lifestyle in the area.

The Peninsula Manila offers a wide range of dining options for its guests, including the international buffet found at Escolta and the modern European cuisine offered by Old Manila. Looking to wind down after a busy day with a glass of your choice of drink? Head to The Bar or the themed rooms of Salon de Ning. Decadent, freshly baked pastries and sweets are found at The Peninsula Boutique and for those who’ve heard of all the good things about the hotel’s halo-halo, you can find it and more in the dining area of the lobby.

The hotel also offers what it calls The Peninsula Academy, a variety of different classes, tours, and activities designed to introduce Philippine culture. Go on a tour of Corregidor or Intramuros or learn about the local arts, design, and fashion. Even kids have something to look forward to in The Peninsula Academy.

Just a couple of meters away from The Peninsula Manila is another hotel, Discovery Primea. Its dining options include the Tapenade, which offers breakfast buffet, Flame, and The Gilarmi Lounge, named after the building that once stood where Discovery Primea is now located. Discovery Primea’s cigar and whiskey bar, 1824, and the Edge, a garden lounge with a perfect view of the Makati skyline, are other places you can head to.

The location of both these hotels on one side of Ayala Avenue makes it convenient for guests to head to malls such as Greenbelt and Glorietta. While there is no mall in Urdaneta, there are still many things to see and do. The Tin-aw Gallery, which is located in Somerset Olympia Building, regularly hosts exhibits by different artists. Eat, relax, and even learn how to bake in Nikko’s Baking Studio and Cafe. And of course, enjoy the wonderful sight that is the Zuellig Building, a 33-story office building with an all-glass facade that seems to change in color depending on what hues currently grace the sky.
