Izakaya Sensu

Everything was fine until we got the overpriced matcha cheesecake (not worth it, made our bill expensive, lacks the bitter leafy taste that I am so fond of). Hahaha! We enjoyed the sensu roll... It has that spicy kick that makes you want to eat more. There are two kinds of rolls in this dish that is why it you wouldn't get "umay".

The karaage has a unique taste in it, at first the sesame seeds would kind of get in the way of actually enjoying the dish, but after dipping it into the sauce, it will taste better eventually.

We love the potato salad! We were hesitant at first, since we wanted to eat something new. It looked like your typical mashed potato. We were enticed by the "dilis" chips which we thought would be big (but turned out to be small-- a bit of a disappointment). The way it tasted redeemed this dish though, I cannot describe it.. I am not familiar with the kinds of spices that they use! Basta, masarap sya!

It was nice that we were able to avail the buy one take one on the cocktails. I forgot what we ordered (Sakura something). It tasted like juice! I like the lychee however, they could have added something else to make it more flavorful. When it arrived, I sipped immediately since I saw that they put lots of ice. But no, it was really bland from the very start. Quite pricey if you would avail it outside of the happy hour.

Service time was just right. Servers were nice bur seemed hesitant in answering questions about the dishes, wouldn't blame them since our companion Roy, has lots of questions! Hahaha! Overall, it was a good experience.

Ice Cream

We enjoyed all the composed desserts that we ordered!
Junkie: Nutella donuts won me.
G'day Mate: the icecream and piece of cake combo is delish!
Ketchup, mayo and fries: when you eat just the icecream, it may taste weird. It's a must that you eat this with fries. And good thing they added more fries.
Ola: the churros added to its appeal. This is also delicious!

Towards the end, I, again, felt umay. Given the price, I was compelled to finish it! Sayang money. Ang mahal eh! All these would have been worth it had their prices be no more than 200.

I like the atmosphere of this place. It would seem as if they offer expensive dishes.... Glad to know that the their dishes are priced just right.

Baby back ribs taste nice but could get too sweet towards the end. I like how the meat goes off the bone easily.

Steak is also delicious, my companion had it medium well. I am not fond of undercooked meat but I was satisfied when she gave me a small slice of beef.

The salmon dish is yummy too. It has lots of cheese (which might take away the "healthiness" of the dish) but you know, cheese IS cheese so I have no complaints about it.

We had the mac n cheese dish too and I was satisfied with it. I love that way the cheese clings to your spoon. I just wish they add a bit more bacon bit.

Their burger is okay. We found it a bit too salty for our liking. It has generous servings of cheese too.
I like the french fries and the dip that goes with it.

All dishes are served in big proportions!

RUB Ribs & BBQ

Tried their solo pork rib set with a side and plain rice. Meat is soft and tender but not the off-the-bone kind of soft. Haha. It's tasty and the sauce goes well with it. The garlic spinach is my go-to side, I like the garlicky taste but this can get too oily at times. I hope they use olive oil to sauté this!

One thing I notice is that you can only get lucky with the amount of meat you would get per order. If it happens that you got the rib part with bigger bones in it, then most probably you would get less meat!

Tea

Went here because my friend recommended this to me. (Hi Roy!) I was happy I did because I can now add another milk tea place in my list.

We ordered coco milk tea and matcha tea latte with pearls.

Coco milk tea tasted good. You can taste the tea and milk blending together seamlessly. I love my matcha tea latte too, again, I can taste the seamless blend of matcha tea and milk. Halfway through the drink, I felt like the matcha part is "slipping away". (Not that much though so don't worry) I am still happy with the taste. I love that they are not shy when it comes to adding pearls in their drinks. I was able to drink the milk tea and eat pearls all the way!
Love that their drink's sweetness level is just right.

My tastebuds are so happy. I would try their other drinks next time!

A 3 star rating only because of the Crispy kangkong! That's it and nothing else. Other dishes tasted fine but for me, they are nothing special. My mom cooks great Filipino food that's why I feel like it is not necessary for me to eat at Filipino restaurants. I just went here because my mom insisted. Desserts are okay. (Halo halo and some kakanin)

Beware of the drinks. They serve water and iced tea. I saw people come and go at the drink station. I thought it was part of the 299 something per head fee. To my surprise, no it isn't, and nobody even clarified that to me. So for additional 60 pesos per head, I accidentally availed of the unlimited drinks. I only consumed 1 glass!!! Whereas other buffet restaurants offer at least 3 kinds of drink, theirs, I have no idea why, consisted only of water and iced tea. Btw, when the bill comes, please note that there is additional vat.

Service is bad too. Waiters and waitresses are hard to find. They seem to be hiding at the staff area and come outside only as needed. The place is not full. One would expect better service right?

Might not go back unless dragged by someone else.

I am reviewing this place again as I had my brazilian waxing and eyebrows done (again).

My previous brazilian session was 2 years ago and I had it done again before going to the beach. I am satisfied by the way the lady handled me. She lets me rest for a while to wait til the pain subsides.

For my brows, I always go to this place to have the stray hairs removed. Finished look will be posted here. Note that my brows are uneven.

Saboten

The place reminds me of a Japanese house, with the partitions, wooden interiors and potted plants.

On our first visit, we ordered the sharing set. I like the creaminess of the croquettes and the shrimp tempura. The dips complement them. I personally like the fruits that Yabu serves because I am not fond of pickled veggies that Saboten serves. I feel that the serving is good enough for two people.

On our second visit, I order the hana set while my companion ordered the Saboten special set.

Hana set comes with a half an order of pork loin and half an order of a tenderloin. I am amazed by how soft the tenderloin is, and the breading? I don't know but it tasted "creamy and freshly made" I lack the proper words! I am happy that it also come with a scoop of icecream. I love green tea! But you may also choose vanilla if you want. You also have a choice of 2 appetizers but they are not refillable. 128522

My companion ordered the Saboten special set. It is almost the same with the sharing set, only it has 1 shrimp, 1 croquette and 3 slices of pork loin. Not sure tho. Served with pickled veggies, which again, I am not a fan of, I found myself looking for the watermelon/pineapple from Yabu.

All are served with unli cabbage, miso soup and rice.

I had a nice experience! The only downside is that you have to call the attention of their servers so that they serve you with water. One waiter is kind enough to offer us another bowl of miso soup.

Rita's Italian Ice

Ice Cream

Went here on a hot sunny afternoon. We were craving for desserts and my sister suggested it. I am glad we gave it a try.

Flavors we ate during our 2 visits:
Cherry italian ice
Melon gelati
Halo halo italian ice

I like both the melon and halo halo flavors. Melon flavor went well with vanilla custard while the halo halo has bits of langka and red beans.

I was not that pleased with the cherry flavored italian ice. The saleslady said it was one of the bestsellers and I wonder why. It tasted like medicine. I personally think the regular sized gelati is enough for one or two persons especially if you can get easily "umay". For us three, we ordered 1 regular sized melon gelati and then added another italian ice in regular size too. You can just share the custard icecream with each other as there is more than enough for one person. You see, there is a scoop of icecream at the bottom, a layer of italian ice and then another icecream on top.

Sad thing is their interiors are not that nice. It is not inviting. This would not be a plAce for you to hang out. Another thing is the cashier always seems to give me confusing answers to my questions. Twice in a row, I had a small confusion with the cashier as I was asking about my orders and their flavors.

Anyways, will come back again to try other flavors.

Went here to try their famous xiao long bao. The line wasn't long so we didn't for more than 5 mins. The place looks like a typical Chinese restaurant with better lighting.

We ordered the Chicken wings in fish sauce, which I think tastes unique, not your usual fried chicken, served with crispy bits of something (well I am not sure what it really is). I like it.

We also ordered the pork xaio long bao (of course). At first I thought there was a certain aftertaste. Like it was not freshly made or something. The first try is eaten without the dipping sauce so I am not sure if it's just me or I am not used to how they make their xiao long baos. I am the only one who thinks that this is a bit bland? My companion also said so.. I tried dipping it into the sauce and added a few bits of ginger. it tasted better but I prefer my dishes to be tasty rather than bland.

The broccoli leaves were tastier that I ate lot of it. I personally think that this dish can be easily replicated at home, hence I think the price is not justifiable.

Overall, I had the feeling that all the dishes are not that hard to make that the prices are not justifiable. Maybe we had a bad choice of dishes, I don't know... I am hesitant to go back here again, we will see til my next visit.
