SumoSam

Japanese

It's been a while since I was at Sumosam so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they've revamped their menu! Everything we ordered - the crunchy tuna roll, agedashi tofu, tonkatsu ramen, and sashimi - everything was good! That, plus the very pleasant service = 5 stars!

Project Pie

Pizza

I always enjoy going to Project Pie. I like that I get to create my own pizza because my tastes don't always jive with the people I normally share my pizza with. For one thing, I like my pizza sweet so I like lots of pineapple on it. See what I mean? I normally go to their Shaw branch but my last visit was to their Ayala Fairview Terraces branch and I was pleasantly surprised that it was not crowded at all (unlike their Shaw branch). So great pizza (for me) plus relaxed dining experience = 5 stars!

Tous les Jours

Bakery

It was my first time at Tous Les Jours and it was a pleasant surprise! Given the fancy name and decor, I was expecting the cakes and pastries to be expensive, but they were all reasonably priced! Aside from the Belgian chocolate cake, I also bought an assortment of breads and pastries and they were all good! Definitely going back for more!

Chelsea Kitchen

3.0 Stars
Café

The 3 stars I'm giving Chelsea Kitchen is mostly for its ambiance. It's light and airy and makes a pretty place to meet up with friends and family. Service is good, too. But everything we ordered - the grilled baby calamari, crispy pork belly bagnet, 4-hour Cola ribs, sausage stuffed schnitzel rolls, donut holes - were either bland, funky tasting or too sweet or too salty. Nothing was really good for me. That said, I'd still go back and try their other dishes. I mean, they must have something I'll like, right??

Fariñas Ilocos Empanada

4.0 Stars
Filipino

I love Ilocos empanada and Fariñas serves real authentic empanadas, I think. We order them with extra cheese. Yummy! If it were just the empanadas, I'd give Fariñas 5 stars. But I'm taking a star off for the pungent odor and poor ventilation inside the restaurant and the very slow service.

Street Shack

4.0 Stars
American

In keeping with the name of the place, it was simple and small with a laid back vibe but it was clean and cute. There were just a few bar stools inside the shack and a few small tables outside (made out of colorfully painted car tires) plus a stack of monoblock chairs and tables ready to be set up should there be a need.

The menu had ribs, burgers, sandwiches, fries... and, interestingly enough, craft beers! Since it was our first time at Street Shack, we wanted to try almost all of their food so we ordered the jerk-style ribs (spicy with the meat falling off the bones - yummy!), the philly cheese steak (the cheese steak was good although I thought it had a bit too much bread and not enough cheese steak), poutine (fries with bacon and cheese and all sorts of fat - so good we ordered a second serving!), The Shack Attack burger (two very thick beef patties with a bit of coleslaw and dressing - we couldn't finish it so we took most of it home), choco lava cake (serving was very small and simple but surprisingly good!), and my husband had a couple of craft beers. All reasonably priced, I think!

Knowing that Street Shack has been operating for less than a week when we tried it last Sunday, my husband and I were managing our expectations. But we were pleasantly surprised! The food and service were very good! Will definitely go back!

Italianni's

4.0 Stars
Italian

Italianni's is one of my favorite places to have breakfast at because of their yummy food selections and generous serving size (justifies the price). Two things though that I've been noticing at their Greenbelt 2 branch - service is slow and the A/C is not cool enough.

Bizu Patisserie

French

I enjoyed my first visit at Bizu, Rockwell and I couldn't wait to have their sea salt and caramel artisanal ice cream again!

So imagine my disappointment when Bizu, Greenhills refused to serve my chocolate soufflé with sea salt and caramel ice cream. It is indicated nga naman in their menu that the soufflé comes with vanilla ice cream. I told them that I was served the soufflé with sea salt and caramel ice cream at their Rockwell branch but they didn't budge. They were nice naman while refusing (but still, hmp). Because I really wanted the ice cream, I skipped the soufflé and ordered something else. Buti na lang masarap ang ice cream and cake nila!

Tender Bob's

Tender Bob's is one of our go-to restaurants when we're hungry and we can't decide where to eat. While their steaks are far from being the best, they're not bad either. I've never had a problem with their service and their prices are very reasonable.

I always order their spinach and artichoke dip and I like their carbonara. Their US Angus ribeye steak is decent, too. But for this visit, we decided to try something new, their beef, chicken, shrimp and salmon kebab with java rice. Huge serving good for 3-4 persons (there were only 2 of us)! The shrimp and salmon were just okay for me but the beef and chicken were good! A bit of variety in one dish and for P1,100++ it is a pretty good deal!

Dulcinea

2.0 Stars
Café

It has been years since I last ate at Dulcinea. I remember liking the food specially their churros con chocolate.

First impression - the restaurant is in need of a renovation. The chairs and tables looked worn, so did everything else.

The service left a lot to be desired. The waiter who served us had to run back to the kitchen/senior waiter whenever we had a question about the dishes. Also, it was printed on the menu "Ask our Chef for other varieties of the cold cuts platter" (or something like that, basta may "Ask our Chef...") so that's what we did. Nagkagulo ang mga waiters. They couldn't figure out what it was that we were asking for. They should just remove that note from the menu. *sigh*

The food, for me, ranged from bland to just okay. Even the churros fell short of how I remembered it. Nabusog kami pero hindi natuwa.

I don't know if it's because I've tried many better restaurants since I last ate at Dulcinea or the quality of their food has gone down the past years, but the experience didn't live up to how I remembered it.
