My family had a lovely stay at Anvaya Cove. Staff were genuinely friendly and accommodating, possibly the best service I’ve experienced. The entire place is really clean and complete with amenities. Absolutely loved their swimming pools and the beach! Though we went during super peak season so it was hard to find a cottage. The setting of Anvaya is comparable to Pico de Loro but much bigger, including the beach area.

Make sure you have a sponsor/a member who will endorse you as Anvaya Cove is exclusive to members. We booked thru AirBNB and stayed at Seabreeze Verandas. Anvaya Cove is huge so you’ll have to drive around. Going on foot is not recommended since the distance from Seabreeze Verandas going to the main pavilion is more or less 2km and there are a lot of uphills and downhills.

Most AirBNB hosts do not allow cooking inside the condo, but you can bring baon since they usually have a microwave. They also have a couple of restaurants inside the resort. Food is good, not as pricey as I expected from a luxury resort. It’s actually more expensive in Pico de Loro.

Guest fee is Php 600/head per day for the first 5 persons and Php 2k per head for the 6th person onwards. When we went there, guest fee for every succeeding day was 2k/head but I think that only applies on what they call “super peak days” (like Holy Week or Labor Day weekend).

El Union Coffee

Coffee

I only tried Smores when we visited El Union since it’s the most talked about item on the menu. I’d say it’s not for people who don’t have a sweet tooth, but for me it deserves the hype. I like how they run the place. Customers aren’t king since they’re strict about their claygo policy. If you don’t clean up and attempt to leave, they will actually call your attention.

I think what’s more amazing other than the food and drinks is the laid back vibe of the place. It probably reflects the style of the owners. I read an article where it says that the owners of El Union permanently escaped the city life and move to Elyu from Manila. They brought their kids along who are now “unschooled”. I learned a lot about “unschooled” children because of them. Their desire to live a simple life by the beach is quite inspiring. I loved El Union even more when I read about the backstory.

Not a member? No problem. Just book a condo through AirBNB and you’re good to go. Our family of 6 was able to book a unit for about Php 6k/night. But yeah you have to pay a guest fee of around Php 1k per head when you get to the entrance. They’ll give you a reloadable card which you have to use for paying inside the resort. They do not accept cash.

The amenities here are awesome. They have almost everything you would want in a luxury resort. Free service around the resort (since it’s huge and going on foot might be too tiring), swimming pools, restaurants, cafes, bowling, billiards, playground, basketball court, spa, the beach, so many more that I forgot about the rest.

They allow bringing of food inside the condo units so it would be smart if you do since food is super expensive inside the resort. Most condos already have kitchen and dining ware that you could use for cooking and eating in your unit. The amenities are great but expect a hefty price tag on every activity. If you desire to get a full Pico de Loro experience and decide to try everything, you may go way over your budget.

Giving out this lone star for the nice photogenic pools and beach but I couldn’t give any more since we experienced the worst service here. I read a lot about their service online but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt but we became victims as well.

The beach was dirty, there was a lot of garbage lying on the sand. But what irked me the most was the poor service in their restaurant. We waited 1.5 hours for our food and everyone kept following up, and they kept saying they could only serve one table at a time so they can’t serve us until they’re done with the other table. The family beside us were already furious as they waited almost an hour and all that was served was rice.

I had enough and cancelled our order after 1.5 hours of waiting and no apology or sign of remorse from the crew, probably even relieved that they would have less orders. We decided to go out to buy food outside, and the guard told us that they may give our parking slot to other incoming cars. At that point I was “hangry” and told the guard we wouldnt even need to go out if not for their useless restaurant. Worst service ever experienced. I really hope they improve their service since the place is pretty decent considering their affordable rates.

Inflatable Island

We went on a Saturday and got a 2-hr pass for playing (but access to the beach lounge is for the entire day). I like how systematic they are. Playing time includes a short orientation and to be safe, no one can enter the play area without a life vest. You also cant overstay in the play area if you didnt get an all day pass, since wrist tags are color coded and life guards are instructed on which colors should remain in the play area.

At first we thought 2 hours was too short but an hour into playing, we were already exhausted, wounded and bruised (not exaggerating... ok maybe a little). But really the obstacles were challenging esp for people who don’t exercise much. Somehow, we got cuts and bruises even when the surfaces seemed soft. It must have been from the solid stuff floating on water. I got wounded when a driftwood carried by waves slammed into my shin. That’s the worst thing about this place. The water is murky. It was brown, almost mud-like with random stuff floating. It would really make you do everything not to fall into the water. But it’s futile because you would fall eventually.

Best thing i guess is the Bali-inspired lounge area. I love how there are enough tables as well where you can stay all day. There’s a decent selection of food in the resort and I absolutely loved the spicy wings.

Overall, it was okay.

Lounge

You'd notice every reviewer posts a photo of the same side of the bar because this is the only side worth capturing. 128514 Plus it's a small space, and it gets smaller as the hands of the clock move past midnight and the bar gets packed. Pretty famous for a place that's meant to be inconspicuous.

I liked their music, crowd and drinks. Some of the cocktail mixes like mojito were too strong for my liking but guys if you're a fan of caramel beer, you have to try their SnS beer!!! Omg, so worth the beer belly. 127867

Marcia Adams

My boyfriend surprised me with a lunch date here for our anniversary and I couldn't have asked for a better place. I have a thing for these hidden garden cafes and this one just really captured the whole spectrum. First of all, I'm thankful for Waze because there were no signs from the highway pointing to Marcia Adams. It's at the far end of Tagaytay (from the center), at the borderline of Tagaytay and Alfonso.

The place is divided into different dining sections, each with a unique quaint design but gives off the same rustic ambiance. Of course, we chose the breeziest part with a view (we came on a Monday so there weren't much people and we had the luxury of choosing our table). They serve Mediterranean food which I was worried about at first. Their specialty is kebabs, but as I'm not a big fan of kebabs, I went for the Grilled Aromatic Pork. My boyfriend got Chicken Kebabs. The ending... we switched orders. I was expecting the Aromatic Pork was porkchop, but it was like a slab of liempo with lots of thick fat. Had a change of heart with kebabs though. I loved the Chicken Kebabs!! Main courses are worth Php 700 a plate but comes with appetizer and dessert. Not bad for the serving size I tell you. The Panna Cotta with Lemon Sauce was a winner!

I tried many restaurants in Tagaytay but this is one of the best.

Another one of the East's hidden gems. I've been hearing good reviews about this garden cafe and after visiting I'd say the overall aesthetic and feel of the place did not disappoint. The food was nothing out of the ordinary however. It looks better than it tastes. But with the serving size, it's actually good value for money.

Breakfast

We were searching for a good breakfast place the morning after what has been a very tiring trip to Bora, so major props to Looloo for this awesome recommendation! Of all our orders I would recommend you get the Angus Beef Tapa. It's Php 390 but I promise you won't regret it (unless you have peculiar taste). It was sooooo good and bursting with meaty flavors. I love their huge serving of giant pancakes too. It was too thick for our liking and the muscovado syrup didn't go so well that I wish they used maple syrup instead. But everything else was good. Try sesame milk for your drink. It's odd in a good way. 128077🏼

Mendokoro Ramenba

Ramen or Noodle

So we tried this ramen bar deep in the heart of Salcedo Village which is literally a ramen bar with no tables. Feels like you're in Japan.

Their ramen is really good and heavy on the stomach. I loved the thick broth and soft noodles. The broth almost has the same taste and consistency as that of Ramen Yushoken. I ordered the Tantanmen (Php 440) which was moderately spicy (but I have high tolerance for spicy food). While it was sulit for the taste, I still can't help but feel that it's expensive. Ramen Nagi is of the same price range but I like Nagi better because of the customizable ramen (that's value added!)

I love the concept of this place however it can only accommodate 20 people at a time, so while you want to stay and chat after finishing your ramen bowl, the pressure of having people waiting outside could make it hard for you. 128514 Lucky for us though we went on a Monday night.
