Hanamaruken Ramen

Had a really great lunch here with the boyfriend yesterday. We came in early though to beat the lunch crowd so service was very good.

Servings aren't huge like the American chains, but each dish is filling and quality of ingredients is exceptional --especially the meat. The broth of the Chasyu ramen was savory without being overpowering while the pork belly from the Salary Man's Rice bowl was extremely tender. Definitely going back! Next on our list is their Happiness (pork ribs!) ramen and rice bowl.

So happy to find another Japanese curry place! Boyfriend and I got the pork gyoza curry and tonkatsu curry for takeaway tonight --very good! We're definitely going back. 127835127835127835127835127835

Great ambiance especially at night. Get their special if it's your first time. It has lato (sea weed) salad, prawns, fried fish with sauce, warm pako salad, tuna steak, and a fresh fruit salad served in half a buko. We tried that during our first time but ordered other dishes on our second visit. And don't forget to try their fresh fruit shakes. Green mango and ginger won me over.

Tips: They're bare footin' --you leave your footwear outside so wear slippers or anything you can slip off easily.

No air conditioning, so try to get a seat near a fan.

If you have sea food allergies or if you're vegan, best ask their staff as some of the vegetable dishes had some squid/shrimp mixed in.

Best make a reservation if you're going there for dinner. The place is always full at night. But they accommodate walk-ins during lunch time.

Great rooms, a beautiful garden setting, and excellent service. Their breakfast offerings are really good too. Get the lamayo (marinated daing/dried fish) if you want the usual Filipino breakfast (served with garlic rice and 2 eggs). But their American breakfast and the fruit with yogurt are good alternatives. And don't forget to try their pizza --very good.

Filipino

Nice open air bar and restaurant in Puerto Princesa. They serve Filipino dishes that taste good and are priced well for the serving size (read: big servings!). We unfortunately weren't able to try the tamilok (wood worm) here cause it was unavailable. The place is packed with local and foreign tourists but service is fast and efficient so while you might have to wait to get a table, it usually isn't long.

Dessert

One of QC's gems. Of course they have great cakes. Best Kept C-ret seems like such a simple cake but tastes simply divine. And don't pass up on the food just because its a patisserie. Love the almond butter that comes with the cream dory dish. The assortment of dishes gives a vibe that its a collection of the owner's best dishes -no fancy themes or naming.

Loved the stuffed squash blossoms and the beef curry gyoza! Their ramen dishes are non-traditional which is great if you want to experiment with flavors but not so great if you're seeking the familiar comforting taste of Japanese ramen. Definitely going back.
