Cozy ambiance!
I loved the Mix buns, sadly they don’t have them this morning. I just ordered Corned beef bun, so so the sayote inside does not make it better. But I liked that it has boiled egg inside. 128076🏻

Abaca is not a foreign name to those who frequent Cebu. As one of the popular restaurant groups in the city, a visit to any of Abaca Group’s restaurants is a must. I’ve been to Maya, Abaca’s Mexican joint last 2015 after my trip to Bantayan Island and I was impressed by its nachos and very flavorful Asada Fajitas. This time around, I made sure to drop by its cafe counterpart, Abacá Baking Company.

Hello, Abacá Baking Company.

Located a few steps away from Maya, this place has a very chill and New York bakery vibe.

Since there are only high stools on the ground floor, we decided to head up to the second floor. I was hoping that some of the staff would help us carry our luggages (as we were on our way to the airport then) upstairs but we didn’t get any assistance from anyone even when some were just idle when we arrived.

We were approached by a server with a very red nose and handed us menu. With hoarse voice, she mentioned their bestsellers and we decided to go for Tomato Soup (PHP195), Skillet Breakfast (PHP495) and Calamansi (PHP55). For dessert, we went with Fresh Fruit Tart (PHP225).

First served was a glass of tangy calamansi juice.

Drinking it as is would be like pinching the tastebuds as a mere drop was tangy enough to make one’s face scrunch. In order to avoid wrinkles, it is best to pour some syrup in. However, foodies fond of sweet drinks may not find one shot of syrup enough.

Next served was our piping hot bowl of tomato soup (that day’s Daily Soup) served with a thick buttered brioche.

As a tomato soup fan, I was excited to take my first sip and compare it with Cicada’s Roast Tomato Soup. But I was slightly disappointed by it.

Unlike Cicada’s, Abaca’s version was slightly watered down. Also, serving size was smaller and pricier. But if you plan to order a lot of dishes, Abaca’s soup would be a better option as it was lighter in the tummy, just like how appetizers should be.

After a couple of minutes, a skillet filled with fried eggs, bacon, country style sausage (patties), beans, tomatoes and thick toasts graced our table. It sure made us thankful for not ordering another dish as this one looked really filling.

And it was filling. But that was about it. Sadly, it was not impressive on the taste department. It was pretty much ordinary. The only thing that stood out was the fluffy toast.

At least the fruit tart’s taste gave justice to its steep price.

The huge fruit slices and chunks were indeed fresh and went well with the smooth and creamy custard and crunchy tart.

I guess it’s best to order pastries from Abacá and head over to Maya for savory dishes.

I had to take my sister to this place. She just loves breakfast and coffee and this place is just the perfect place for it! 128571

We both love the interiors here, the food and everything else they have here. Location is spot on and everything we had was just amazing! 128571

Plating is very important to Abaca so they respectfully declined when we asked for our orders to be split in half so we can share equally. Hey gladly handed over a knife and fork instead, so I had to split our meal myself. I think I did pretty well too. 128569

We had the Luncheonette Burger (Php 370) and their Fried Chicken and Waffle (Php 535). Both were big in serving portions, and so pretty to picture! Quite expensive for Cebu, but I can definitely say it is worth every peso! Both werejust bursting with flavor and my sister and I just gobbled up everything! So gooood!

I had a glass of their Iced Mocha Latte (Php 155) and my sister enjoyed a glass of Iced Caramel Latte (Php 155). Both were so good, with bold flavors! They went so well with the slice of cake we shared. I loved their Old Fashioned Cake and now they leveled it up even more by putting Salted Caramel! OMG, ansarap! 128571

I can't wait to come back! 128571128571128571

I was only in Cebu for a few days, but I went to Abaca baking company at Crossroads twice. This little spread on display is, I hope, enough reason why. Just look at this beautiful display! It is not only beautiful on the outside, it is also super scrumptious and delicious. But my favorite is, and will always be, their lamingtons. I would book a flight to Cebu right this minute just for them!

EGGS BEN a long day, without you my friend, & I'll tell you all about it when I see you again... 128541 #punny #SorryNotSorry128517

Of course no trip in Cebu is complete without a visit to THE Abaca Baking Company Store. The Abaca group has definitely made a name for themselves and all of their restos have met nothing but praise- with only one drawback though, the price. 128517 if you're from Manila, the pricing might be a little high but nothing exorbitant. But for Cebu standards, the Abaca group is way to expensive. For ABC, I would compare their prices to Wildflour and say they're almost at par with each other (which says a lot as pricing in Cebu is generally more affordable). You can complain about their prices all you want but you'll find their pastries and breakfast food good nonetheless.

Eating breakfast here is such a treat because you can smell all the yummy bread and the coffee while being around little pieces of artistry (their menus have some artworks at the back and there are some small intricate designs on some of the steel foundations near the stairs). Plus who cannot love their wooden tables and quaint chairs.

Be sure to drop on by and enjoy some good coffee, fluffy croissants, and this cheese drenched Eggs Benedict with ham (in the picture). 127859🧀 9749127849

I had their Cream Puff and their Old Fashioned Cake for take-out. The Cream Puff was delicious! I loved that the pastry was just thin and they didn't scrimp on the filling! The cake was amaaaaaaziiiing! 128571128571128571 It was moist and chocolatey, not too sweet and not too heavy in the tummy. I ended up finishing the whole slice in one seating. 128569

If there's one restaurant I MUST try before leaving Cebu this would be it. I've read a lot of good reviews and my friends here in Cebu were also recommending this place. So even before going to Cebu I know I cannot just leave without going here!!!

Right after lunch and before meeting up with Nikki C, a fellow looloo user, we visited this place first for dessert and coffee.

When we arrived, I instantly fell in love with the place. Wow!! The place is a combination of Wholesome Table, Toby's Estate, and Wildflour. When you enter, you'll be welcomed by the sight and smell of freshly made pastries and bread. The pastry corner was soooo beautiful, tempting, and just wow. The place itself is very beautiful, artsy, and instagram-worthy. Felt like you're in a cafe abroad. Made me remember Orange street in Japan. 1285259786

Read Peanut's review about how good the milk custard and milk bread so I was looking forward to ordering it!!! But buuut sadly, it was not available. 128557128557128557

Took me a long time to decide what to order so I let them pick for all 3 of us instead. We had a slice of their chocolate cake, some madeleines, and the chocolate cream puff. For a "complete" dessert experience, we each ordered a drink. I tried the Mocha latte.

Both the madeleine and cream puff were just "hmmmm okay lang". Nothing extraordinary. The cream puff was not how I expected it to be. Instead of custard inside, it was whipped cream. WHYYY. I loooove cream puffs but this broke my heart for like 10 minutes. 128546128517128518 Good thing, the chocolate cake saved and made me believe in love again.. It was AMAZINGLY GOOOOOD!! One of the best chocolate cake. It's rich, moist, and overflowing with chocolate goodness. And surprisingly, super affordable. For a slice that big (and given the place), I expected it to be 200php or more but it was just 150php! 128563128077🏼 Though it was a bit sweet for me... but it was really gooood! Promise! 128525128525128525128076🏼 And the mocha latte was just okay. Not too bitter and sweet. Just make sure to drink it right away because it doesn't stay hot (or warm) that long.

Service was good, as well. They were nice and friendly. I would definitely be back here again. I cannot wait to go back to Cebuuuuu!!!! 128588🏼128588🏼128588🏼128588🏼

The long overdue visit to this place finally happened 128525128513 The weather was perfect 🌧9748️ and a good cup of coffee partnered with a freshly oven baked bread came at the right time.

I wanted to try out the recommended pastries by Peanut D and Lexi M but they were not in display - both the Milk Bread and Milk Custard 128553, assuming it got sold out that day, but my curiosity just wouldn't stop so I asked the lady attending my orders. She said that they just stopped production for the two breads for awhile and they are not sure if they will still be bring it back 128532, in other words, wala na sya today until further notice 128557128557 (so devasted! Lol!)

So, J and I ordered

127775 Croque Madam -- 100841008410084️ sooo good!!

127775 Ham & Cheese Croissant -- very hearty, from the outside it looks like plain croissant but hidden inside is a a slice of ham covered with cheese 128077🏻128077🏻

127775 Cinnamon Bun (not certain of the name) -- so very much like the bun, though the dough is quite heavy but it works well with my cappuccino 9749

Hoping to bring back the milk bread and milk custard 128591🏻128591🏻

An extended #looloorendezvoos under the midday sun!

Abaca Baking Company will definitely be on my TDL given a chance to go back to Cebu. It looks posh. It reminded me of the place I've been itching to drop by - Wildflour Cafe + Bakery + chef BJ Mantuano haha!9996

When it comes to restaurants/food establishments, I have this tendency to use the restroom first because I just wanted to check if it is well-maintained as many tend to overlook this. I was not disappointed, in fact it exceeded my expectation. Of course it is clean, looks planned with interesting interiors not a boring white-on-white cubicle, informative as it shows a large frame of the other establishments ABC owns, really comfortable and spacious although the downfall to it is you will have a tendency to linger for a bit more and it might cause queueing (hoping it won't happen, ever).

Their milk bread was so super delicious it gets to you as a craving in an instant. It is that good! The price for each was close to a hundred but you could say it's worth it. The waitstaff were attentive, in full uniform and can give good recommendations. One of them recommended to try the umm, breakfast meal. I chose chili con carne instead haha! I feel sad for the ones they don't recommend. 128514128514128514

I love their chili con carne. The flavors were balanced, delicious with french toast, a swirl of mozzarella, beans, and bits of onions (so be careful when you speak 128540). Still a wee bit pricey but hey, we're talkin about great food + smooth service + cozy ambiance.

P.S. I'm so going to try Maya Mexican Restaurant, also owned by ABC.

You know how I was raving about their Milk Custard bread? Well, it turns out their Milk Bread is 10x better! You still have the same flakiness of their croissants but this time, there is way more milk custard in the bread.

It's basically like melted pastillas inside a warm flaky and soft croissant.... 9729972997299729

I also love their menu boards here, flip it and they have beautiful paintings at the back! The entire place is filled with art! Noticed it after Odesssa K pointed it out in my other review. 128522

This is a really good cafe to visit whether you want some good pastries or if you want to meet with someone or just hang out with friends.

P.S. I also ordered their sausage rice and while I complained about the cumin-y taste, I still finished it. 128514 So it must still be good!

Thanks Lexi M and Maah J for keeping us company! Saturday afternoon well-spent! 128522

ABC has to be one of the best places to check out here in Cebu. Being one of Abaca Group's concepts, it's pretty popular here because of their awesome pastries.127838

We got to try their Milk Custard, Cream Puff, and their burger (forgot the name, sorry!). The Milk Custard was pretty good, especially the part with sugar. Their Cream Puff was unique, at least for me. The cream was thick instead of the usual Beard Papa-like cream. 127877🏼

The burger was good as well! Especially the soft and tasty bun! The price is pretty good (at Php300+) given that it comes with thick-cut fries.

The place looks fantastic as well! My kind of place since it's well-lit and it has a fun vibe to it! 128588

It's the perfect place to go to if you want to start your day right. 128516 Awesome service and food, ABC doesn't cut corners. 128076🏼

looloo crew in Cebu! W00t!

When we had our sponsored rendezvoos at Beqaa last night, we heard almost all the reviewers rave about this bakery, saying it's the best bakery in Cebu. So for lunch, we headed out to Crossroads where this bakery is located.

It's a nice and homey place with a crap ton of baked goods inside. I couldn't help but go near them and start taking photos. So near in fact that the lady brought out the "Don't go near the pastries" sign. LOL. Sorry! 128586 I didn't touch any of them I swear!

Tried their Milk Custard and wow. It was SO good!!!! The outside was flaky and buttery almost like a croissant and the inside was sweet, milky and soft. Huhu it was so good. Some parts outside were even toasted and topped with granulated sugar. 128557128557128557

When I had my first milk custard, I asked the server where the milk custard was (I bit into it to show her but I wasn't complaining because it was still good) but the staff was kind enough to give me another one! Dapat daw yung next meron ng milk custard. They even watched me eat the second one lol.

Wow. Great service and awesome pastries! 5 stars!!! 11088

If you love pastries, this is a must-visit in Cebu!!!

P.S. Their flat white is also good!

My 2nd visit w family . And to think i decided to forgo the breakfast buffet at the Parklane to eat agin at Abaca Baking Company.
First the food, still top notch .
Scones - really good
Sausage roll - also good
Breakfast sandwiches - ok
Corned beef hash , my favorite
Cheese & chorizo quesadilla - good and big enough to feed 2-3 people !

Now why only 3 stars ?

1. Because they open at 7am for breakfast but can only accept breakfast orders at 8am because they're still preparing the kitchen.... Then why open at 7am ? Or have your crew come earlier to prepare what has to be prepared before you open , right ? Minus 1 star it wasn't like this before, our orders were promptly taken and served within a reasonable number of minutes after ordering .

2. Unli brewed coffee or just 1 cup of coffee ? . Two of us just had 1 cup of brewed while my sister had 2 cups of brewed coffee. So we expected 2 single coffees and 1 unli brewed coffee right ? Wrong ! Because the single cup brewed coffee costs the same as the unli brewed coffee. !! Gotcha!! Before 1 cup was 1 cup ....
Minus 1 star

For me, what destroys the experience is that sinking feeling that you are being had . I hate that , maybe ill just enjoy the free buffet breakfast at the hotel that comes with the room instead ... Or spend my hard earned money elsewhere . Sayang .
