Lunch at Abe's today was both a good and bad experience.

The food especially the lamb adobo gets high marks. The meat is tender and did not have the gamey taste which is highly characteristic of lamb. It must be the sauce with the large fried garlic in it. The gising gising was also good. The fried hito was a bit small but very crispy and was perfect with burong hipon. The kare kare was ordinary lacking in the peanutty taste.

Quite disappointing though was the service. We found some insect eggs on the labanos leaves. It was not really an issue for us but when we called their attention, the supervisor did not even know how to handle our concerns properly. He approached us but did not make any apology. He only scratched his head and gave us an uneasy chuckle. As a restaurant owner myself this is something unacceptable given the reputation of the place.

What better way to spend Christmas lunch with the in laws than to share a feast of delicious Filipino food. They love anything fried and they love vegetables so that's what we had.

On the table
🔹Mungo Bean Soup - one of our regular orders. Monggo perfectly cooked and this being topped with tinapa flakes and chicharon brings it to a whole new level.
🔹Gule Magalang - not sure what the sauce was but it tasted great and the vegetables were fresh.
🔹Laing with Tinapa - the in laws loved this
🔹Knockout Knuckles - the crispy pata was a hit with crunchy skin and tender meat.
🔹Binukadkad na Pla Pla - another favorite from Abe. I'm still amazed at how they present this. If we could buy and take home the buro, we would. The salty and sour buro is perfect with anything fried.
🔹Tuna Panga sa Bawang - loved the garlic bits and I scooped it up for my rice
🔹Pork Binagoongan - a pahabol order with big chunks of meat

We over ordered and brought home some of the food. Our tummies were filled and we had smiles on our faces as we went out of the restaurant.

Some of last year's backlogs...

And we’re back in ABE for another round of Filipino dishes to fulfill our cravings! The Christmas rush has started so the place was almost packed when we went here.

We’re supposed to get the Sinuteng Baby Squid again for appetizer, but it’s not available. So we decided to just get Spicy Sisig Pampanga from the same list. Since it's getting colder and I know for a fact that my Christmas will be cold, I ordered for the Pork Sinigang, while my friend suggested to try Abe's Morcon.

Food took a litte longer to be served but it's alright. Spicy Sisig Pampanga has that kilawin aftertaste which I think was tolerable for me. I noticed that the meat was minced to tidbits compared to the usual diced into little cubes!

Abe's Morcon tastes like a bland ground pork meatloaf AKA embotido! Wait! The meat is actually embotido!!! Yes, that's just disappointing!!! My dad's Morcon was hundred times better than this.

However, the pork sinigang is a winner!!! Everything you'd love about sinigang is here - tasty (and saktong asim) broth, soft meat and vegetables that are not overcooked or "malabog". Serving size is good for 3 persons!

Among everything we had, the Sinigang was the only standout dish! So it's more like a 3/5 rating for this visit!

Service crew were inattentive. Food was ok but not worth what you had to pay for. Good for balikbayans to try.

It was my first time eating here and we ordered Bamboo Rice, Lechon Cubano and Rellenong Alimasag. Haha hello cholesterol.

I enjoyed my meal. All our orders were really good. My boyfriend and I just have to eat slowly because we were watching our calorie intake hahaha just kidding. The only thing I don't like about this place was when we walked in, no one approached us ahead. We waited there for a while to be ushered on our table. Whenever we called for assistance, their eyes were like telling us not to bother them though some of them were approachable.

I will still eat here though because I loved their food. I just hope on our next visit, there will be warmer smiles for their customers.

I've been eyeing on this place for such a long time and hurrah, I was able to try this place with my friend, Carlo R when we were in SM Megamall about two weeks ago! We just bought PS4 games and we decided to have dinner here instead of Halal Guys - mainly because of the long waiting time.

We had Sinuteng Baby Squid, Chicken Adobado, Pork Binagoongan, a cup of steam rice, and a cup of brown rice.

Food was served quick. We both loved Sinuteng Baby Squid right away on the first bite! It's just too good to be true! Small squids sautéed in olive oil and seasonings, and then filled with lots of garlic too! Really like the taste of this dish! One of the must-tries here, definitely!

Next, I tried the Pork Binagoongan. I always love Binagoongan, although I used to hate it before because of the bagoong itself and its scent; but after having pork binagoongan for the first time back then, I've had a change of heart instantly! Ever since, it has been added to my most favorite dishes of all time. So I can't avoid having this expectation when I tried it, and I must say that I'm not impressed! I've had better Pork binagoongan out there, mostly at my friends' kitchen!

The last one we tried was the Chicken Adobado. I love chicken so much!!! I think I said it a lotta times on my previous reviews and never get tired of saying it whenever I'm reviewing a chicken dish! Lol. Their version of adobo was a little unique from the usual adobo - they added lemongrass for a little catch and hook to the taste. They also added shiitake mushrooms, just in case you didn't like bananas in adobo, and if you wish to have something more to chew aside from the chicken. I wouldn't mind adding bananas or even pineapples as it creates an interesting twist to the flavor and it makes Adobo more interesting. So this one's good for me too, although many would think that it's just plain ordinary. 128513

The service had been good, although we had to call their attention more than 2x for bill and refilling of our shots. Well, the place was quite packed so that's understandable. The food we had was all good except for that binagoongan, so I'll be giving this place a 4-star rating on this visit.

Abe has always been among my favorite dining haunts. Prices are reasonable and their Filipino menu is superb. From the old favorite Binukadkad na Playland to their cocido, Abe will always be a steady fixture.

Tried the Sinigang na Baboy sa Ube and their Mangga't Bagoong. Two things-- one, loved their unique purple Sinigang (a must try!) and two, they have the best Bagoong! Service is fast and ambiance is cozy. I'll definitely try more of their dishes.

This is not the first time I've had an Abe meal. Sugpo sa Gata, Chicken Supreme, Lamb Adobo, Gising Gising and Bamboo Rice - all very good. My like for Abe made me try out the other restos like Fely J's (Greenbelt) in the LJC group.

This branch in Megamall has a tendency to over-salt every now and then. I normally don't have a big problem with this provided the salt level of the dishes are easily regulated with more rice. One particular dish - Sinigang Bangus Belly with Guava - was overly sweet on top of salty. We ordered it thinking it would be a good combination to try. Never had sinigang made with guavas. The guava bit is more likely from guava nectar (juice) rather than the actual fruit and it drowned out the sinigang. It wasn't my thing.

Another item I've seen on the menu a few times and decided to try was Tamarind shake. So good, so happy I tried it.
