It took my sister quite a while before she managed to convince me to get out of the house as I was really not in the mood to go out that day as long weekends mean lazy days for me. But since her begging powers seem to be of the same level as Puss in Boots, I finally gave in. We stopped by the usual stores and bought a handful of items but the highlight of that day was my short stop to…

AKIBA :D

I’ve been passing by this store for quite some time now but I never bothered to stop by and try the drinks till last Monday. I got curious with the drinks as the server was really enthusiastic with telling us their bestsellers.

In the end, my mom ordered Yogurt Chiru Nutty Macadamia (PHP130, large) while I ordered a glass of Akiba’s Signature Trifle Kohi (PHP130, large). My sister, who was not in the mood for tea or coffee decided to go for one of their chiffon cakes.

First served was my mom’s Yogurt Chiru Nutty Macadamia and it sure had a strong yogurttaste! Not that I’m complaining as I love yogurt (as it’s good for the tummy). It was definitely tangy yet you can’t deny the hint of nuttiness coming from the macadamia. Yogurt or sour food lovers will adore this drink! (Warning though, that as you hit the mid part of the glass, the drink gets to be a bit sweeter.)

When they served my drink, I was told that it’s best to drink it without straw and I didn’t say anything and started to drink.

The trifle cream is sweet! :D But not too sweet to the point of making you gasp for water. It was a bit messy to drink though and not glamorous to sip especially if you’re on a date as it’ll make your lips white and you picture ready for a Got Milk? ad.

After a few minutes, the server finally handed a straw as he saw my struggle on wanting to drink the coffee beneath the trifle cream.

The coffee was quite strong so I was thankful that I didn’t finish the trifle cream. Mixing the coffee and cream though made this drink so addicting! I think I’ll go back to Akiba this weekend for more!

Oh, as for my sister’s cake, it was a dainty light flavoured cake perfect for tea or coffee. But sugar lovers will not like this one.

I used to order their matcha trifle (p130) everytime i go to megamall. The last time i was there however, they changed their menu. It was an additional P30 for the trifle cream (which was the main reason why i order from them) above their iced matcha which was already P150. For me p180 isnt worth it for a small drink even if their trifle cream is really good. Altho i could make exceptions for cravings.

In the picture theyre called matcha chiru. The cream isnt the same as the trifle one. Still tastes okay but not as good anymore.

I was looking for a coffee shop where I could do my homework; all the others were full so I settled with Akiba Cafe. I ordered a slice of their Green Tea Cheesecake and found the flavor overwhelming--there was a thick layer of macha powder on top, as if the lid fell off when they "dusted" the cake, LOL, you get what I mean. Good thing there was chocolate garnish to somehow offset the powerful taste of the macha powder.

EDIT: They were playing Japanese music videos, by the way. I chanced upon L'Arc~en~Ciel's Drink It Down video. It made me miss my J-music phase from years ago! Hashtag-walang-maka-relate hahahahaha

Who would be able to resist a cozy place (with different board games to boot) in the middle of a bustling mall?

I've been wanting to try their Trifle Teas since the first time I laid eyes on their shop and at P120 (large), I could say that the Matcha Trifle Tea tasted promising. Since the Japanese Trifle Cream is at the top, it's best to take a sip than to drink with a straw. The cream wasn't too overpowering and went well with the tea. However, the amount of ice was too much and drowned the flavor of the tea so I had to drink it faster than my usual pace, inhibiting my chance to taste it fully.

I'm still willing to give the place another try, since I would like to taste their coffee and their cakes. :)

I had to look up the meaning of Trifle for me to be able to understand why the drink tasted as it did. For those who don't know it, it is "a cold pudding made of layers of sponge cake spread with fruit or jelly, may be decorated with nuts, cream, or chocolate". (Taken from TheSage's English Dictionary and Thesaurus)

Another thing I learned from this is experience is that the Japanese are of incorporating their culture in various things, including food. Whether it is a good thing or not is up to our own discretion. :)

Coffee, tea and Japanese is my thing. At first i was a bit disappointed that it was in the middle like it's meant for take out. Or maybe it really is for take out and not for hangout. 128541

My friends and i stayed there though. We fixed our tables and the server helped us. She gave us the menu and we were clueless so she helped us pick. 128077 We ordered Special Mocha Kohi Chiru, Kohi Jelly Kohi Chiru, Creamy Choco Chiru and Signature Hot Chocolate.

We all agreed that their whip cream is better than starbucks. 128077128077128077

I want to be back. I'll be back! 128522

ever wonder how sesame seeds on your coffee taste like? yum. the nutty macadamia kohi can rival starbucks' holiday drink, toffee nut latte. and for those who wait for this treat during the holidays, the wait could be over. before shopping or the movies in megamall, take a slight detour to this little nook on the second floor and have a taste. sip a little, chew a little, savor a lot.

I tried their Jasmine trifle drink. It's their take one the famous RSC and milk cream of Happy Lemon and Gongcha. It was okay - the cream is kinda on the sweet side and it's a good combo with the jamsine tea. They have desserts too.

It's located on the second floor open area of Mega A, right across Marks and Spencer side entrance and near Petit Monde. It's a nice place to rest after shopping since it's not usually full of people.

The best thing about Akiba is you can have your coffee in peace and quiet even if you are right in the middle of the mall. The Tokyo Cappucino is rich and flavorful with steamy hot milk. Love it!

Tip: Sip it directly, don't use a straw.

It is unfortunate that there are still no branches in the South 128542

Akiba Cafe is a minimalist Japanese café that serves a unique selection of coffee and pastries. Dining here is such a refreshing change from my usual Starbucks/UCC fare. Can you believe this is a local brand started by a young Filipino-Chinese entrepreneur? Watch out for Akiba's second branch, opening soon in San Juan area! :)

I was looking for 2 birthday cake that time for my birthday. I was originally had in mind to buy Cheesecake etc's cake, so we went straight to eastwood and found out that their branch there is already close. PERFECT! 128534
So we just settled in SM Megamall. What we had is Chocolate Concorde from Sugarhouse and the other one is Tiramisu from Akiba. Since we don't have any choice because it's just right in front of Sugar house

• PLACE
- It's just a small kiosk in the middle of the mall. That has 2 tables and 4 chairs for their customers.

• FOOD
- They are popular for their milk teas and coffees. They have cheesecakes, and different pastries that you can have per slice or as a whole.

• PRICE
- It's very expensive. Their Tiramisu cake cost 1000++ pesos. It's okay for me if it's like Contis Mango Bravo size that you can buy at 1050 pesos, but it's not. Akiba's size is like the size of chocolate mousse in Red Ribbon.

I was very disappointed with their cake. I really regret it. I'm very much willing to pay that amount ONLY IF it's worth the value of the customers' money. But it's not. The taste of the cake? It's tasteless. No creaminess or sweetness either. The bread of the cake is spongy but it's wet. I don't know if it's really like that or there's a problem with the cake. But one things for sure, i will never ever buy their cake anymore 128534
