I used to frequent Almon Marina. I remember that my mom used to be close to one of the partners of this chain of restaurants and we would always buy cold cuts from its deli. But the restaurant industry in Manila has blossomed in the past years and it seemed such a waste to keep on visiting the same restaurant and not try the new ones which serve really interesting dishes. But when starving, you can’t be a picky eater.

I was pulled out to help assist in one event and since it was a series of events in one day, I only had 30 minutes to fill the tank (a.k.a. my tummy) so I went for a place that is very close and the most appetizing one is Almon Marina.

Hello again, Almon Marina! Long time no see, uhhh... taste.

The place was empty around 2 p.m. which was perfect because it means that service will be fast given that they are not waiting other tables.

I went with Soup of the Day (PHP80), Salmon Lasagna (PHP198) and a small Sansrival cake (I forgot to take note of the price but I recall that it is not more than PHP200).

My bowl of mushroom soup was served first and it was quite watery. At least it was warm and calmed my grumpy tummy.

The Salmon Lasagna was served next and it was quite good. The tomato sauce made the dish tangy. The generous serving of cheese made it the gooey lasagna I like. The salmon bits were a bit too few though for me to get a taste of it.

The Sansrival cake was so-so for me. It was nothing extraordinary for me to order again.

Overall, it was an okay meal. It wasn’t spectacular but it was filling.

We ordered their plated set meals and was happy with their service.

The verdict: i knew that this is a good place for sandwiches but for our dinner, we grabbed their Pastalicious Combination that has everything on it.

The food: On my plate i had salad, pasta (of my choice: puttanesca, alfredo, bolognese sauce) sausage and garlic bread. I think the food was okay. Especially the sausage. The pasta is a bit dry though.

The price: value for money! I only paid Php 190+ for my meal. 128077 menu prices ranges from 150-400 per head.

The service: waiters are attentive and kind to us. Plus they have free wifi. Less crowd and quiet place to stay in.

-xoxo

The place was clean and well lit but I thought that the chairs were quite uncomfortable.

I've seen it's branch in Robinsons Place Manila ("RP") and it is always packed so I never really had the chance to try it there as I had no plans of waiting for a table to free up. Anyway, my friend invited me for lunch in this branch so I was pleased that I would finally taste food here. This branch, however, isn't as packed as that in RP.

Anyway, for the food, I had the pasta with sausage and salad. It costs around Php895.00 and is good for sharing for two. They had generous servings of everything, which is goof for its price. A perusal of the menu shows that the food here are all very affordable. This probably explains why the place is usually packed in RP.

As to the taste of the pasta, sausage and salad, though, it was okay, it was nothing special, nothing great. The pasta what somewhat dry. It wasn't that bad though, but it wasn't good either.

We had dessert. My friend ordered the blueberry cheesecake which tasted okay and the the carrot cake. I liked the creaminess of the carrot cake's icing. It was also moist.

Overall, I give this place 3 stars for being just okay. I probably won't come back here anymore as there are other equally affordable places out there with better food.

Enjoyed this Tuna Melt yesterday while having chika moments with Zia M over lunch. 128111 #weareclingylikethat

Pretty good sandwich for only P130++. It was generously filled with tuna chunks, apple slices and walnuts. I just wish it was oozing with melted cheese. 128076

The place was quite small and consist of one waiter and one cashier. Kaya si waiter haggard na hehe. When they gave me their menu it was quite hard to choose especially if its your 1st time. So many sandwiches to choose from but I settled for the calfornia roast beef sandwich. The roast beef was tender and it was pretty good. They also serve rice meal but you should definitely try their various sandwiches. :)

Had the boneless ribs which was just okay. The stuffed porkchop (pictured) was good, but there was a lot more apples than others in the filling. Mango shake was fresh and just right, not too sweet, not too sour.

We visited this branch at The Residences to get away from the mall crowd and indeed it was a good getaway. There were only three guests when we arrived at their cozy, well-lighted store. Not recommended though, if you'll be bringing in your family of 20+ as they have just a few seats to dine.

The store played very light Christmas music and the aircon complemented the cold weather outside that somehow led me to daydream that I was in Baguio City, sipping coffee and eating a sandwich among the pines.

Those who have not yet tried Almon Marina should review their menu first as they have so so many sandwich choices listed! We have only tried Almon Marina once (not counting a visit to their Meisters store at the Food Choices in Glorietta) so we had to do an intelligent eenie-meenie miny-moe on the menu.

With that, we got one Sydney Special beef sandwich on rye bread (cut into two, for sharing) and one Fruit and Walnut salad.

The Fruit and Walnut salad came first. The fruit slices looked like mango and yes, we were surprised that it was papaya. Quite funny because we did not pay attention to the description in the menu. We did wish the salad had more greens.. And walnuts...and more prunes...(there was only one piece of prune128546) and the papaya should be a little more ripe to achieve the right sweetness.

The Sydney Special sandwich had the Australian flag on it but since we asked to have it sliced into two, they had to put another flag (is it Sweden or Norway?). The rye bread is the default bread for this sandwich. I'll have to ask them to put the wheat bread next time as the rye bread was just too thin for the chunky beef and greens that go with the sandwich.

The Australian beef that went into the Sydney Special was more on the sweet side. I have only tasted one sweet beef - and that's the dried tapa from Cebu 128541. The Australian beef did go well with the salad but we were searching for some more greens to liven up the adventure. When we were about to finish the sandwich, we noticed na may chips pala. The potato chips were placed in a small cup which is why we almost forgot about it. Quite ironic kasi I usually dig the chips first.

Since medyo nabitin kami sa greens and bread, I ordered a fresh coffee brew para masulit ang ambiance. After a minute or so, the waiter came, informing us that they had only powdered coffee (3-in-1?) or decaf - which we did not take anymore.

So much for my daydreaming. I will however come back and try another sandwich - and hopefully, they should have their brewed coffee na.

A quick fix for lunch: New York New York sandwich with an order of Niçoise salad (vinaigrette dressing) is a perfect post workout treat! I love how they have combo meals that are just right too!

Having some people over? Order their sandwich platters or other home made specialty dishes! I remember eating Almon when I was a kid and it's still amazing! :)

ive always loved almon marina's sandwiches and their apple pie. really value for money food. it was my first time to try their fillet mignon and was not disappointed. meat was tender and juicy. not bad for less than P300. they changed the way they make their apple pies though. i used to love the rear part crust which was a little hard but yummy. the apple pie now is more flaky, but still tasty. this particular branch is a nice place to eat if you want some peace and quiet away from the noisy gbelt 3 area. service was superb.
