Another one of dem Food Crawls.  This time we are set to wreak havoc in Tagaytay.  I know there are a lot of restaurants to explore in this side of the foodie hemisphere.

This is the first I've heard of Amacena.  I ain't sure if this is a foreign language or something but i am digging the name as it easily sticks to my memory.  For some odd reason,  i associate this with a local flower.

The restaurant is located inside  One Tagaytay Place and the Chef is the son of a popular matinee idol from the 80's.  Amacena reeks of modern B&B,  quiet sophistication.

They served a feast.  When I say feast,  i mean every word.  There is so much food i got a lil woozy.  I will only write about the ones I tried.

| Five Cheese Pizza.   This is my favorite among the two.  I mean,  who doesn't like cheese.  This baby is comprised of blue,  mozza,  cheddar,  parmesan and feta.  An explosion of cheesey proportions in every bite.

| Pinakbet Pizza.  This is case of combining two different things and getting mediocre results.  Pinakbet is thr quintessential veggie Filipino dish but adding this in pizza is sitting well with my tastebuds.  The eggplant is too watery and the texture doesn't go well with the pizza.  I'd still give the Chef brownie points for trying though.

| Tawilis Pizza.  Another gamble that didn't pay off.  The tawilis is not doing anything for me.  Maybe i got used to the saltiness of anchovies hence i found it really difficult to like this pizza.

| Sizzling Bulalo Steak
| Smokin' Bistek
| Bulalo
| Dinakdakang Chicharon

The four dishes mentioned above is my top four in the entrées.   I purposely grouped them together because of their not-so-healthy reputation.  The bulalo steak is bad for my cardiovascular system but it tastes too friggin good.   The meat is really tender and the sauce thingy is oozing with Bulalo goodness.  As for the Dinakdakang Chicharon...the name itself reeks decadence and indulgence.  Well,  it so rich and un-healthy and I want more.  Yes,  i am a daredevil like that.

The last time I've had Bistek was eons ago. Boy,  i was glad Amacena has this in their roster.   And yes,  their version is the sizzling kind which in turn makes it a gazillion times better.  The Bulalo on the other hand is nothing but awesome.  I love the flavorful broth,  it suits the cool breeze.

| Belgian Chocolate Eruption.  This is their take on ze Molten Lava Cake.  I took a couple of spoonfuls and i love it.  MLC is one of the chocolate desserts that i like because it is not too sweet.

They also served the following:

| Honey Bagoong Wings
| Tuna Kilawin
| Longganisa Corn Dogs
| Gambas Con Chorizo
| Duo of Tacos
| Aligue Express

I know what you're thinking,  i missed a great deal by skipping some of the dishes mentioned above.  In all honesty,  i am perfectly satisfied with the stuff I tried.  Amacena delivers in the taste department,  there were a couple of "misses" but the rest are all "hits"

Till we meet again,  Amacena.

Tagaytay used to be a quiet place where people from the Metro can go to escape the buzz. The weather is nice, the breeze is cool and there's no stress and traffic. Today, Tagaytay has morphed into a foodie destination. Everyone has discovered it's charm and weekend road trips became stressful and the traffic had gone bad. A trip to this place has become a second thought for me especially since a weekday getaway is quite impossible.

Good thing I got an invite to go on a sponsored food crawl in Tagaytay with six stops!

With a call time of 8AM, I got myself a good cup of joe and hopped on to get to our first destination - Amacena.

Amacena is the restaurant of One Tagaytay Place. Long tables, white table cloth and plates on top of round wooden chopping boards. The setting is simple but elegant. They also have this semi private room that had a rustic feel.

Onto the food, they served A LOT of dishes. I was able to try the following ---

| Pizza:

> 5 Cheese Pizza was good but the mix of cheeses didn't give a sharp cheese flavor. It was cheesy and gooey anyway. The crust was so-so. Obviously the frozen type, it was thin and too crunchy for my liking. Found out after a while though that they run out of Blue Cheese. Maybe this could have been better if there were really 5 cheeses in it.

> Pinakbet Pizza was not my type. If it had bits of alamang, making it a little closer in taste to the dish itself, maybe it could have been better. But veggies like talong, squash and okra on a pizza - no thanks!

> Tawilis Pizza was okay. I was looking for a saltier taste from the fish or cheese - something similar to anchovies but nah! They also added Kesong Puti here. Good job though in trying to incorporate local ingredients.

Then we had the following:

| Dinakdakang Chicharon: small chunks of pork belly, liver, lots of chicharon, onions and mayo, served with egg to be mixed right away! This was good. Tasty, good acidity from the lemon, just the right saltiness.

| Smokin Bistek: tender bacon like cut of beef, flavorful sauce, topped with crispy onion rings - do not skip this!

| Bulalo: a signature dish of Tagaytay that should always always be in your list! Theirs had a good tasty broth, tender beef, veggies cooked just right

| Sizzling Bulalo Steak: oh this lovely dish! A genius twist to a classic favorite, this had tender chunks of beef in a thick tasty mushroom sauce served with bone marrow that's topped with garlic bits. Something that I would urge you to order!

| Crispy Pata: the very Filipino sinful dish of tender deep fried pork leg! It was tasty and oily and crispy!

| Tuna Kilawin: this was good and presentation was unique. Served in a coconut husk with some coconut meat, loved the spicy kick and the coconut milk sauce. And oh did I tell you that it had chicken skin too? Such a nice play on flavors and texture!

Then came dessert in the form of chocolate cake. Belgian Chocolate Eruption. I thought it was your usual moist and fudgey cake but as took a slice, warm and gooey chocolate sauce came gushing out! It was so delicious! Pair it up with some vanilla ice cream - the best ending to a great ending.

Food maybe a hit or miss but the warm and friendly staff got me. They were attentive and smiled genuinely the whole time. Also, loved the use of natural light through glass walls. Lets you dine with a view as well.

I shall see you again, Amacena!

So I went out of town for a gig and had lunch here at Amacena. I found myself thinking.....Why I haven't tried this place before?128556 Amacena by Chef Luigi Muhlach is located at One Tagaytay Place. (Perfect place for staycation. I will write another entry about this hotel.) So let's talk about their food. :)

We ordered the following: Five Cheese Pizza. Tangigue Fried Rice, Kilawin, Sizzling Bulalo Steak, and Dinikdikang Chicharon. Yes. I know. I broke the rules but it was worth it!10084️ Please see the pictures of the dishes and the place, uploaded above. :) (Just swipe the pictures to the left.)

The search for the best Five Cheese Pizza is over. If you've been a reader of my reviews, you would know that I've been looking for the best Five Cheese Pizza in the Metro. Good news? I found it. Though I need to drive out of town but from time to time, I think it's good to take a break and drive for Amacena's pizza128525 Trust me on this.

My second favorite dish is the Kilawin. The former pescetarian in me was really happy! Ugh. It was full of flavor and the combination of vinegar and coconut? Perfect! Another star for serving fresh fish! If you're an avid fan of Kilawin or Filipino dish, you would really appreciate the quality of the Filipino food they serve here.

The Dinikdikang Chicharon is their version of Sizzling Sisig with eggs on top. I decided for a while to forget about my cholesterol. Maaaan! It was really good. Armi didn't like jt that much cause she found it kind of spicy but the Bicolana in me really enjoyed it.

Soooo.... here's my favorite part. Can you guess? Yeah. You can see in my Bio that I workout for DESSERT! Tadaaaah!!! We had Langka and Leche flan turon and Belgian erruption (their version of lava cake)128525128525128525 Winner!!!! We paired our dessert with Balisur tea ( Sencha green tea and English breakfast) I could still remember Armi's face when she got to taste the lava cake. Heaven!!!! As for the turon, we ended up asking the waiter to wrap the leftover and snacked up on it at the hotel room. The turon comes with ube ice cream. Yeah we need to burn the calories when we get back to Manila.128525128525128525

To wrap it up, it was a close to perfect gastronomic experience. We enjoyed every dish and they really have good service. Shoutout to Romar our jolly waiter who kept on checking us and our food. We were also able to meet the Chef Luigi. Lucky us!

Thank you also to the GM of One Tagaytay Place, Mr. Jose Marie Ouano who made sure we would enjoy not only our dining experience but our whole stay at their hotel. Please wait for my next entry about One Tagaytay Place.

Guys, check out this hidden gem in Tagaytay, you wont regret it!128076🏻

We were excited to eat here because their table setting was unique and beautiful. Sad to say that we were really disappointed. Quantity of the food was okay. But everything was too bland. And too pricey for food you couldn't even taste. They looked infinitely yummier in the pictures. 128557 Service was not so hot either since they seem to lack servers.
