Amici used to be one of my go to restaurants when I want comfort food like pasta and cake. I still remember frequenting its pioneer branch in Don Bosco just to get a scoop of its sweet dessert. But the crazy number of new restaurants popping here and there made my trips less frequent and the insane traffic surrounding Makati and SM Megamall made me hesitant to be a mile near those areas. Those were true till I got to sample its new dishes.

Long time no taste, Amici!

It has been quite a while since I visited Amici's branch in Ayala Triangle. And nothing seemed to have changed. I was still greeted by friendly staff and the dining area has ample space and cool enough to beat the scorching heat outside. But this well-loved brand has something new and yummy, thanks to its Executive Chef Paolo Moran, who just came back from Italy after working as chef in various restaurants in Florence and Sicily.

We were treated to several scrumptious new additions to the Amici menu and we started off with Spinach Artichoke (PHP285).

It took great will and effort for me not to finish this plate meant for sharing. Since I usually start the day skipping breakfast, I was already famished by 11 am. And it was absolutely hard to just get one or two of the crunchy parmesan coated pizza crust wedges. That alone was good enough but of course, the creamy spinach artichoke dip was too tempting to pass. The blend of cheese and creamy dip was heavenly. I loved its light taste making it a great appetizer.

Next served was the Bacon and Cheese Gnocchi (PHP368) and it was one of my favorites!

The handmade Italian style pasta pillows made of potatoes were amazing!

The chewy texture was addicting and the sauce made of asiago cheese and parmesan would definitely delight cheese lovers. Though one bowl is good for two, I could easily finish it with ease.

I was a bit worried to indulge in the squid ink dish Pasta Nero (PHP398) as I had another event to attend to right after that afternoon. But I totally went YOLO after having my first mouthful. The spectacular squid ink and pomodoro sauce was like Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra serenading my taste buds. I fell hard for its slight tangy taste. The calamari on top was very flavorful as well and added texture to the smooth dish. I would have loved it more though if there were more calamari.

The Italian Burger (PHP368) was yet another favorite. It was hard not to like this meaty goodness when its patty is mixed with Italian sausage and seasonings making it extra flavorful. It was also a party of different textures as this filling burger has onion rings aside from the usual greens and cheese.

The bread too is made extra special as it uses butter toasted brioche instead of the typical dry sesame topped buns.

And just when I thought this is the hottest summer we've had, things got even hotter with the Spicy Italian Sausage Pizza (PHP468) and Seafood Diablo (PHP378). We were warned that these two dishes are hot but I wanted to test my limits.

And the Spicy Italian Sausage was indeed too spicy for me. However, it was the I-want-more-even-when-it-burns kind of spice. Thankfully, this pizza comes with a side serving of honey that helps balance the heat of the Italian sausages. I topped mine with a teaspoonful of honey and I got to enjoy my slice of pizza without having to grab a pitcher of water.

The Seafood Diablo reminded me of seafood marinara but with a spicy kick. The beautiful pasta topped with clams, mussels and shrimps had that delectable tangy spaghetti taste but made hotter by chili flakes. The great thing with this dish though is that you could request for it to be milder or spicier depending on your preference.

We were all getting full when Bistecca Striploin Steak (PHP795) was served.

Thanks to my extra tummy dedicated to steak, I managed to indulge in a piece or two of the succulent beef and some of the sauteed mushrooms and mixed vegetables.

Other sides available for this dish are rice pilaf and baked potatoes.

To cap our meal, we each had a scoop of Matcha Gelato (PHP90/scoop). The green dessert was matcharap! I love that it had a strong green tea taste yet not too overwhelming to the point of it tasting bitter.

Overall, it was a superb lunch. It sure was hard to pick a favorite among the delectable dishes but if I were to choose, I'd go with the Pasta Nero. It was hands down the best squid ink pasta I've had to date.

Lunch for one today!! The pains of working offshore from your clients... 128517

I was supposed to head to Poco Deli. It was 11am already but for some reason their sign said "Closed" 128532 So I went to Amici instead.

They have so many pasta choices!! And when there's so much to choose from, I'm always torn. 128517 Eventually, I went for their salmon cream pasta.

The salmon was okay, it didn't taste very fish-y. 128514 The cream sauce was good for me since it wasn't super heavy and they didn't over season the dish. 128077🏼 Their pasta was cooked wonderfully! Al dente! 128513

Went here for Saturday lunch with the family and was surprised that we were the only Filipinos dining. We ordered for 6 pax the following: Pepperoni and Three Cheese (Php 415), Spaghetti al Tesori del Mare (Php 1580), Trio Platter (Php 498) and Pollo Arrostito ( Php 328 for half).

We are not big eaters so it was a testament to how good the food is when we finished everything.
Would have been better if the clams were bigger, but the pasta was al dente and it was perfectly seasoned. The chicken is very tasty and tender. Pizza's crust is crispy and had a good amount of mozzarella.
Service staff was attentive and not overbearing.

We went here during lunch hours so we're expecting a busy place. It was! It had a great ambience of friends and families enjyoing their lunch. 128522 Though some people might find this annoying! Hehe Despite the place and its aura, I'm not very happy with what I ordered. The Seafood Chowder Risotto (P335) was too salty for me and very unsatisfying for its price. I'm all the more disappointed because it's a bestseller! 128529

Ordered aglio olio, sardines pasta and shrimp pesto flatbread pizza.

The pastas were great as always. I always order them whenever I eat at Amici.

It was my first time to try their flatbread pizza and I wasn't disappointed. I really liked it. It's not tomato based so it's a change. The pesto flavor was also not overwhelming. It's really delicious and I'll definitely order it again.

I also liked that we were seated beside the kitchen. We can see how they prepared our food. It was kinda hot though since they have a big stone oven in there. But it's alright. 128516

When we visited Ayala Triangle for the dancing lights, we decided to have dinner here, as well (sayang parking 128518). It was my aunt who suggested we eat here as she missed eating here.

While waiting, they served us with complimentary bread. The bread was good and really tasty. This, surprisingly (but sadly), was what we liked the most. The caesar salad, seafood pasta, pizza (tutta carne), and chicken (pollo arrostito) were all just okay. Was so excited to finally eat the chicken again after sooo many years because it's my favorite but meh, not anymore. The quality is not the same anymore?? 128546

Wanted to try this place for a while now, just couldn't find anyone to come with me since they're a little pricey. You have to have at least 300-400PHP for a full meal.

For starters, we had the Trio Platter (with chicken tenders, Italian chips, and mozarrella sticks) and Spinach Artichoke, the latter I really liked. I could have an entire meal with just some bread and their spinach artichoke dip. So good.

Their pizzas were thin and good, but not as crispy as I'd like. We had the Tutta Carne, Al Quattro Formaggi, and Blue Cheese and Honey (you'd think this one would be weird but it really paired well with the honey).

Their pasta servings were generous in size and with the sauce. Had the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, Linguine al Salmone Cremoso, and Spaghetti with Italian Meatballs. We had a whole order of Pollo Arrostito as well, but it was a little bland on the inside.

For dessert, we had slices of their gelato cakes - Chocolate Symphony, Mango Passion, and Brazo Gelato (I liked this best) - paired with coffee.

So many other interesting options from their menu. I'd definitely come back to try the rest.

Amici got better! I lost faith in Amici when they became a restaurant chain and I tried both their Makati and Alabang branch a couple of times but was always disappointed. After a few years I came back and the food is great! It's not the original taste and price but the pasta was wonderful, the desserts were awesome and the price is affordable! What a surprise! This will now be one of our regular places to eat :)

Their Aglio Olio pasta is the bomb! It may seem like pata drenched in oil but it was actually delicious. I haven't got a chance to take a picture though since my friend and I devoured it. Haha

Amici will always be one of my favorite pasta-pizza places ever. I get nostalgic whenever I get a taste of their food and everything. Their food is always al dente. The flavors are rich, the meats are always tender.

It's just nice to know that it's also in the heart of Makati — very near my work place! If you're in Makati and been wanting to do a quick throwback dinner, don't forget to visit this one.
