A couple of weeks ago, Kevin R and I were looking for a Japanese Restaurant which specializes in Bento. This was thanks to the Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara 1st episode. The them of the food battle was (you guessed it) Bento. We had an eye out for Ariake which seemed affordable and recieved good reviews but like the dismal weather, parking was full and we had to pass eating at the shop.

Last weekend, we were fortunate enough (I guess) that the weather was a lot worse compared to the previous weekend. Not a lot of people was around the T. Morato Area and we were able to secure a parking spot.

Our hopes were up, morale was high, and expectations were marginally okay.

So we went in.

Ambience: The place looked small but cozy. Lights were dimmed and we were seated in front of a table the staff were using to prep their chopsticks and napkins. I had a small issue with the men's room but it is negligible.

Service: It was okay. The 3 staff who were serving less than 15 tables could've been more attentive. But overall, they were okay enough.

Food:
Kevin and I asked for a recommendation from the staff, and he pointed that one of their bestsellers was the

1. Special Bento (P355) - Generally it was okay. Since my hopes of getting a good bento was high, I was let down. The best part of the Bento for me was the teppan and the miso soup. They could do without the garlic rice and just put in steamed white Japanese Rice.

2. Shake Sashimi (P240) - Like the bento, my hopes went up when I saw the price vs 10 pieces of salmon sashimi. The sashimi itself was okay, I was just let down by the size. Still, I'd order this one again if I come back.

3. Tamago Sashimi (P130) - It was also generally okay as well.

Overall, I'd come back to this place because of its affordability.

Since I always mediocrely describe my food as either "okay" or flat out inedible. Starting with this review, I'll count how many "okays" I write not counting the ones with quotations.

"Okay" count: 5

Was an okay place for our first visit tonight. Good menu selection, good price, food was above average, and the ambiance could use a little improvement. The letdown was the service. I don't know if the place is understaffed (I counted 5-6, serving a dining area of about 50 pax) but the service personnel seemed 'unhappy' and I felt that they all can't wait for the place to close for the night. The staff seemed more intent in clearing tables than attend to the diners immediate needs. We didn't see a single smile from any of them tonight. Absolutely zero attention will be given unless called. Water refill requests even felt heavy. So if the owner of Ariake reads this, please see to the morale of your people; I've felt more cheer in an empty room.

the only good thing about ariake is that they have thick sliced sashimi of 10 portions for a very reasonable price. the other dishes were not unforgettable and service was super slow. i hope we just caught them in a really lazy day.

no pictures cause im so bummed.

I've been here numerous times, but the crew never smiled or greeted their customers warmly. Which also gives the restaurant that gloomy feeling.

Nevertheless, i always come back for the food. Thumbs up!

Except for the Oyster Sushi, nothing is worth coming back for. It says in the menu "japanese mayo" but it was not, just the usual mayo we get in the grocery. I have never been so disappointed, and to think it was my birthday dinner.

Another japanese place that I liked.. 128513

Ordered the Katsudon which was really good, better for it's only 180Php. Quality food and value for money. ✅✅
Also, the American Dream roll which was a fried salmon and kani maki.. Yum! 8pcs for 200Php? Not bad. Not bad at all.

Liked the ambiance as well, rather quiet and relaxing. Not much people when I went there..

The service was fast and they serve House tea too! 128540

Will try the rest of their Menu soon.. 128541

Me and my friend were craving for Japanese and so we headed here. Had the american dream, philadelphia roll and miso ramen. the rolls were very good and went well with japanese mayo. for the ramen, the noodles were good and seemed handmade to me and not just storebought, which is good. the base of the ramen was nothing exemplary and the beef and pork were a little over done but were still good nonetheless. Would've enjoyed the experience more had service been decent. I know that they may be understaffed and hence quite busy but that is no reason to not be friendly to the customers. I suggest adding to the service but otherwise just keep on rolling out those damn, fine rolls.

Nothing special with the foods we ordered but at least the place is nice.
Its kindly good when you need a place to have a good conversation with less or no other guests especially in morato area. Spending on Futo maki and tea is not bad at all for a great talk with a friend or meeting with client.

I'd like to give it a 3-star rating for the food but their service was bad so nevermind.

Service was really slow, waited an hour for my nigiri sushi platter that was so-so. They almost forgot to serve us our ebi tempura. Their gyudon was okay, nothing special. The only thing i liked about the place was their interior

Me and my boyfriend had a errand to go near tomas morato, since we were early we decided to ate our dinner at Ariake Restaurant.

First impression of the restaurant, it was nice and peaceful ambiance, people chatted but not so loud. I like the yellow lighting which made the resto to have a relaxing aura on it. One interesting thing that caught our attention are the buttons that will allow you to call the waiter, ask for bill, or even cancel an order.

Since we both like sashimi, we order there sushi bar deluxe platter (Php 440.00) which include the following : 8pcs of tuna, 8 pieces salmon, and 1 pc of each salmon sushi, tuna sushi and tempura sushi. We like the freshness of the sashimi and thickness of each cut.127843

We also try their Donburi, i ate teriyakidon(Php 190) and my boyfriend tried their Katsudon(Php 170). I like my teriyakidon, the chicken was not to dry and the sauce is full of flavor. My boyfriend said he like the Katsudon, the pork was easy to cut. Then we try their houseblend iced tea(Php 75) (lemon with calamansi) nothing so special but the iced tea is good.

Celebrated my birthday here with a bunch of med school friends only because I wasn't able to make a reservation in another restaurant along Tomas Morato.

The place was weirdly almost vacant on a Friday night, save for 2-3 tables, while the other restaurants within the vicinity were all super packed.

The menu was fairly expansive, with a wide selection of rolls, donburi, sushi, etc. I ordered American Dream, African roll, Jurassic roll, and Hot Night roll for sharing. Most of them I tried already from Omakase, but I think the rolls in Ariake are relatively cheaper compared to Omakase? Taste-wise, well, you get what you pay for. 128513 nothing special and nothing worth coming back for, really.

What really disappointed me though were the donburis they served. I ordered a bowl of gyudon and was saddened by its lack of taste. Even after adding so much chili powder, the taste didn't improve at all. Same thing happened with my friends' orders, completely bland and actually kinda dry. 128532

I probably won't be going back here anytime soon, but in case I do, I'll remember to stick to the maki rolls only.

Drinks? Soda? Sprite? At 7:30 they only have 1 on stock? There's a lot of convenience store nearby and they can't go out and buy one? Yakisoba looks like more of a lucky me pancit canton with vegetables on top. Kiddie bento cannot be ordered by an adult but the serving, geez it's for an adult. Even I cannot finish the rice served in the kiddie bento. Menu? Wow overflowing. Hundreds of food in the menu and waiter can't even explain them. Billing? In the middle of our meal, they said that they can't accept credit card as terminal is not working, they should have said this after the meal not while we are having the meal. Nothing so spectacular in this restaurant. Might as well eat dine in Tokyo Tokyo!

Really turning Japanese not only have we've been eating Japanese food for three days! But eating Japanese from lunch to dinner was too much for me. Being to "umay" with sashimi from lunch, I opted to eat gyudon. It was definitely my fave for this night' meal worth mo P180! But when the sashimi's and maki's came i still took a hefty serving, who was i kidding!? I love Japanese and I guess i just couldn't resist!

This place offers cheaper Japanese food with good quality. :)
