I just love doing unique activities. As a person who is no longer fond of going to the malls as I find it so mundane, going to Binondo for a kalesa ride or to La Mesa Eco Park to play paint ball are a few things I wouldn’t mind doing every weekend. Imagine how happy I was when my favorite Dragon lady said yes to change our Children’s Day plans to visit a zoo instead. I was ecstatic!

We decided to pay Ark Avalon Zoo a visit as it was the nearest zoo our area (or at least mine).

It was slightly hard to find the place as it was at the very back of Fun Ranch. And there were very few people to ask so T and I ended up circling around all sweaty in our kiddie outfits. (Cue: Eww.)

After a few minutes, we found someone to ask and he told us that the zoo is indeed at the far back. So we went back to the fish pond and saw a walkway to the zoo’s entrance.

The place was pretty empty when we arrived. Well, it must be because we were the only brave ones to face the crazy heat. We quickly paid the entrance fee of PHP350 and went inside.

First thing we saw was the birds’ area. There were several parrots and other birds of different shapes and sizes. (Can you sense I have no interest in them?)

Then we saw… a Siberian Tiger! We were mesmerized by the size of the tiger. It seemed restless though walking back and forth across its very small cage. It took us 10 minutes or so before we could move on. We can’t help but stare at the wonderful creature. It was simply beautiful.

When we finally decided to move on, we saw…

Some mammals who experienced "The Hangover" and Last Friday Night combined.

Some scary big birds...

Watermelon loving tortoise

And mooooore!

What I love most about Ark Avalon Zoo is that they have feeding areas. Given that I was deprived of pets, I just have to take advantage of this. You have an option to feed birds, turtles, fish, lambs, goats, rabbits, hamsters, and a lot more. I chose to feed lambs (because Mary had a little lamb) and rabbits.

Feeding them isn’t free though. You have to shell out PHP40 to buy a small bottle of milk and a carrot on stick.

I also had to have my photo taken with Jenny the Orangutan. For PHP50, you are allowed to have 2 photos taken. Yes, they are very strict with this one. The trainer will be the one to take your photo to make sure that there are just 2 photos. So make sure you flash your prettiest smile. And no matter what happen, hold that sneeze in!

Overall, it was a fun afternoon. I'll see you again soon Ark Avalon Zoo! I'm bringing my sister with me next time. I would like to apologize in advance if we scream like weirdos when we visit.

Place is expensive. Good thing we went there using vouchers. A measly carrot...for fifty bucks. Wouldnt buy such rip-off if not for my adorable pamangkins.. Their place is gloomy and i think the animals are not feeling at home in their all. They look very sad and all i can feel when i look at them is pity. The only animals that enjoy here are the rabbits, the big ones at that because the smaller ones will have to work hard just to get some good overpriced carrot.

Okay let me start this post by saying I LOVE animals so I was already thrilled and on cloud 9 when Kal K and I arrived.

I've been asking K to bring me here for the last year and hurrah we finally had a date with the animals! So happy. Thank you, babe!

You first walk in and see different kinds of parrots, these were fun because they mimicked the sounds of cars, whistles, cats, basically anything they hear along c5. However, one bird was severely depressed and K explained to me that this happens when the human they've bonded with is gone.

The animals were beautiful, the tigers, lion and jaguar were my favorites. They're huge! And beautiful! I didn't like though that they don't have space to run/another pen/holding area besides what we saw. :(

They also have goats, pigs, sheep, etc on the 2nd floor. Again, they are kept in really tiny spaces without protection from the elements. I didn't like this so much.

This is a nice fun place to visit for a date or to bring your kids. A wonderful change from the mall. :)

It's a mini zoo.

I didn't like that some of the animal handlers teased the parrots and the bearcats.

The macaw at the entrance is so unhappy he's chewed off his tail feathers and wing feathers. My guess is the person he was bonded to was no longer an employee.

I felt so bad for the big animals and how they have no space to run128546

But all that aside, it's a nice place to bring your kids, they have animals that you can feed (40php for a banana, Saba), and the eagles and owls are amazing.

The marmoset was really cute.

The snapping turtles were boring.

Nice place for a family side trip, or a date.

Loved the zoo! (Even though it's just smaller than their main zoo)

I loved the feeding part! My friend keeps on buying more carrots and vegetables because he's afraid that others did not get the chance to eat! And that makes him sad!128514

Kids will definitely love this! Us oldies enjoyed it, pretty sure they will enjoy it more!

Quite small but very well maintained!

I like it here better than zoobic. Some of the very interesting animals were white tiger, lion, jaguar, hyena, monkeys, eagles and owls. My 2yo son is looking for zebra, cow, elephant and giraffe too bad they dont hAve it here Lol! They also offer feeding time with some of the animals which costs P30/stick. And you can also take pictures with the macau, eagle or owl on your arm :) entrance fee is P300/adult and P200 for small toddlers.
