I once stayed in Ascott Hotel when it was still known as Oakwood. Back then the place was great and customer service was impeccable.

I visited family today and there was a long cue of people waiting to check out with only two of four check in counters open. I was waiting with an elderly gentleman who had been waiting in line for half an hour just to have his parking ticket sorted out. I was there to visit family, whom I have not met in over twenty years, and no one could help me. There were no house phones so I could call their room. Not even the numerous security personnel could help.

I was asked to cue in this long line. Out of exasperation I went to one of the scrutiny personnel who told me that they were not authorized to help. I asked the front desk if she could just give me the phone so I could call and was told rudely that I will have to line up. No smile, no apologies, no explanation nor an acknowledgement that things are terrible.

I would not recommend this hotel even to my worst enemy. From what I've experienced hotel management and staff don't know the meaning of customer service. They should be ashamed for letting guest cue up needlessly and for not opening even more reception desks to help customers.

Ascott is an ideal place for business meetings, perhaps that's why this hotel is located in the heart of the Makati CBD, amidst the Glorietta malls. The hotel speaks an ambiance that is purely business. The interior design is straightforward - corporate. Not much to see for artisans looking for architectural magnificence, except for the artworks that don the hotel lobby and conference areas.

Their prime restaurant, Cafe on the 6th, gives guests a wide variety of choices on their menu. Cafe on the 6th also serves food to in-house meetings, like the one that we attended at the Australia room at the 7th. Clubhouse sandwiches, Pancit Canton and fresh fruits were among those served to us and were good, filling indeed.

As the lunch was hosted, we just waited for the meal to be served. Pork sinigang, nilagang baka are among those served to us. We only had to wait around 20 minutes. A 10" Margherita pizza was even served (it did not match the sinigang and nilagang baka, though), perhaps for those who prefer lighter meals.

Overall, we enjoyed the food (our hosts were quite generous), and some of us even went home with 'take outs'. Hotel staff were very accommodating, but not really warm as with other hotels perhaps due to their corporate theme.

They say nothing is perfect. Well, staying at Ascott will prove this statement wrong! From the very spacious units, yummy breakfast buffet everyday, perfect location within Glorietta and very friendly staff, this can be a glimpse of heaven on earth. Stress and tired souls will surely find comfort here. Each morning is full of renewed energy as one finds complete relaxation at night. No need to travel far for relaxation.. It's just around the corner.

Had a business meeting to attend to and they served these fruit eclairs at Cafe on the 6th. I thought to myself this is the simplest eclair I have ever seen, no food presentation considering this is a hotel, but don't let this small stuff fool you, this is one of the best tasting eclair for me.

The eclair is filled with cream and fresh mango slices, adding additional filling or coating would overwhelm your tastebuds but with just the cream and mango slices, you'd get to appreciate the mango's freshness, yummy!

An apartment-hotel that has a fantastic view of the city. They used to serve complimentary breakfast buffet to guests before, but now you have to find something to eat in the morning. They still serve breakfast, yes, but it's not a buffet anymore.

The rooms are spacious and cozy. The paintings hung on the walls really go well with the room's vibe. It feels like you're home.

I'd recommend Ascott if you want to get a break from your hectic life and just sit by the window and enjoy the sun's warmth and and the city view.

Book online. It's cheaper.
