They have their tagline “Home Brought Closer to You” on their walls, but I could only wish that the food at my house was like this!

Shared three dishes with two of my friends, and man, did we clean up those plates real good. 128541
The chicken pesto was really fresh. Another awesome thing about it is that they serve you parmesan cheese on the side so you can add as much you like. But given how good the pesto was, we didn’t need much.

The buttered shrimp agoile was my favorite dish of the lot. It had the right amount of saltiness for you to appreciate the buttered pasta and the shrimp flavor. It’s one of the best oil-based pasta dishes I’ve had so far. UGH I’m drooling just thinking about it. 128525

We had the Wagyu patty with mashed potatoes. I usually like my mashed potatoes with some chunks in it, but this time, I didn’t mind that we were served the opposite. It was really soft and creamy, plus the almost raw, runny egg that you can mix in with it made it extra special. The savory patty was a welcome addition to the carbfest from the two other dishes.

The service was also very good. We were served fast and our waitress was really friendly. I also liked that it’s small and cozy. Overall, a great place for a nice dinner with good friends. 128522

I loved the steak and mashed potato, crispy chicken adobo, pasta and cheesecake here! The place was also very quaint and I enjoyed having dinner in this restaurant. The staff were nice and accommodating. Just make sure to make reservations about a day before, since the place is somewhat small. But I would definitely come back!

The Crispy Adobo was the winner! After having tried that, everything else tasted a bit bland. 128532 I had the wagyu burger and it wasn't anything. The steak and pasta were ok. I've had better but it wasn't bad.

The service was good though and it was a nice place. Definitely worth visiting again. Maybe I'll try their other stuff but will definitely get the Crispy Adobo again 128513

As I was browsing through deal sites, I chanced upon a deal offered by this restaurant. Since I haven’t tried it yet and the menu seems interesting, I decided to buy it immediately and I’m glad that I did. Thank God for deal coupons!
Everyone has his own favorite comfort food and in Avi, you might be able to find yours. Avi does not focus on only one cuisine rather; it serves variety of comfort food that will surely entice its customers.
It was a weekday when we went there so, as expected, the place was a bit empty. The atmosphere and look of the restaurant suits the food it serves – just like home. Tita Terry’s Tasty Tuna Tartare (P210)
The name says it all – the tuna tartare was indeed tasty! The balmy sesame oil and aromatic spices made it even more mouthwatering. Though the chips, that came along with it, was just average, it was still good when paired with the appetizer.
Lola Soledad’s Buttered Shrimp Agoile (P190)
SIMPLE YET DIVINE. This light pasta was coated in garlic olive oil, topped with buttered shrimp and basil. The perfectly cooked shrimp was so succulent that makes it so hard to resist!
Papa Jack’s Crispy Chicken Adobo Overload (P210)
I am not really a fan of adobo but this one was really scrumptious! Unlike the ordinary adobo, the adobo sauce was rich and infused with dark chocolate and gravy. No wonder it tasted so good! The rice made the dish even more appetizing! It was moist and sticky, just how I want my rice to be cooked. The server was also kind enough to give me more sauce! (Thank you! 9786)
Sous Vide Hanging Tender Steak (P310)
My least favorite. We wanted the steak to be cooked to medium but it was served medium well. The steak was very tough to eat and was a bit dry. On a good note, the homemade mashed potato tasted good.
My overall experience in this restaurant was delightful! The place was wonderful, the atmosphere was truly homey, which gave me a comfortable feeling, the servers were really kind and friendly and the dishes were delectable. There’s nothing I could ask for! I recommend Tita Terry’s Tasty Tuna Tartare and Papa Jack’s Crispy Chicken Adobo Overload; these two dishes will definitely satisfy those hungry bellies! The restaurant is currently new in the metro but I won’t be surprised if this makes a buzz real soon! 9786

Took a friend here for lunch on Friday after seeing some good reviews about this place.

We started with 1 appetizer and 2 entrees:

1. Tuna Tartare - tastes good with mild spicy kick. But tuna didn't look very fresh and the portions are quite small for the amount of chips that came along with the dish.

2. Hanger Steak - this is their best seller. I paired mine with mashed potato. The olive and runny egg (not seared in anyway) made for interesting addition but didn't do much for the dish. Hanger steak is very tender but lacking flavor and that char grilled taste I was expecting. Portions of the steak is also very small but I guess that's why it's only P310

3. Garlic shrimp aglio something linguini (forgot the official name but it starts with Lolo something) - my friend said it tastes great. From the look of it, the shrimps are kinda small and comes with only 3-4 pcs. My friend might hv a big appetite also but he was still hungry after this. It's less than P300 so I guess you get what you pay for.

Since my friend wasn't full, we also ordered another entree - Papa Jacks crispy chicken adobo. This dish comes with pcs of decently sized chicken. Chicken has the perfect crunch but the sauce is a tad too salty when added to the pre-marinaded chicken. At P230, this has the best value for money.

Overall, Avi is not bad but didn't leave much of a strong impression either.

Quaint, comfy interiors with attentive and knowledgable staff. The tuna tartar is refreshing and surprisingly good with the tortilla chips. Crispy adobo is crunchy on the outside and really soft on the inside. The sous vide steak is good, especially with the mashed potatoes.

Still on soft opening, so they don't accept credit cards yet. Bring cash. Steak is a little dry. Pesto is really good and large enough for one serving.

We ordered their clam chowder which was superb!! Nothing to complain about this dish, it was creamy, rich and really really good! Though i think it would be a little better if served with their yummy garlic bread too :)

We also ordered the sous vide hanging tender steak. It was pepper crusted, served with some special sauce that's better than gravy, on a bed of mash that's a little chunky (but good!) and with a perfectly poached egg. My only complaint is that the portion size of the streak is a little too small.

Lastly, we tried their seafood diablo (spicy) pasta. The menu promised a rich & spicy marinara sauce which they definitely delivered. It was soo spicy that i started perspiring! But it was good. I didn't get to eat the mussels though because quality isn't that good. The garlic bread that comes with the pasta is perfect.

Overall, this is a good dining experience and will definitely come back to this place. Too bad i am only able to attach 1 photo!

Avi is a new restaurant located along United Street in the bustling Kapitolyo food area. It is owned by my friend, Dean Dulay, and their theme for the place is "Home brought closer to you." With that, I knew that eating here wouldn't be a fuss. There was no need to dress up, no fancy gimmicks or anything like that. It will just be about you, the food, and the company. Simply, like at home.

Food:
The food here was really good! I had the Sous Vide Hanging Tender Steak, while my date had the Seaside Samba Diablo Pasta. My steak was usually served with an egg and white rice/mashed potato, but since I was strictly on a "no high-GI" kind of diet, I opted for two eggs instead of one. The steak was a perfect sear, that of a medium rare. The taste was quite nice as you could really taste the pepper used in their rub. The sauce was just heavenly with a creamy and buttery note. The flavors of the sauce and the rub were simply balanced. One might quickly notice the steak to be too tough, and it is true, but for P310, I can just have this over and over again as my post-workout meal! Best to pair this with a light red wine such as a Pinot Noir, which Avi also sells in their menu! I wasn't able to taste my friend's pasta, but she said it was also delicious!

Ambience:
Next to food, ambience is something I really take into account when choosing a restaurant. The theme was that similar of a home. It had to be cozy, warm, and welcoming. Avi definitely got those! The place was just small, so I would understand why sofas were not used to contribute to the chill vibe of the place. But nonetheless, everything was just right. The lights were dim, which gave me the chance to simply enjoy my food and my company. It wasn't intimidating, and Avi was the perfect place to relax with friends after a long and tiring week.

Service:
Service was just awesome! They were really nice and polite, and they were knowledgeable of the menu. Quick too when it comes to serving our food! Good job!

Price:
Like what I said earlier, Avi was just like eating at home. Comfort food, and nothing else. With that, it was also good to know that the food was affordable. I think the most expensive on the menu was already my steak! It's a good place to hang out with your barkada!

Overall:
I had a chat with Dean once about the business, and I remember him telling me that it was really difficult. Nonetheless, the restaurant is doing good so far, and I'm glad to see the place packed on a Friday night! It just comes to show that you don't need any fancy gimmicks to please your customers. Good comfort food and good company will always be enough. Great job, my friend!
