The ambiance of the coffee shop was great. We came in almost closing time so it wasn't crowded.

We already had dinner before dropping by so we only ordered coffee. Needed the caffeine fix before driving home hehehe!

The coffee was alright, nothing spectacular. But the coffee art was cute haha! Simple yet nice. 128522

Had a slice of their Apple Crumble ( 160 Php) . It came heated. To me, it was just okay... I found the apples a bit too soggy though. I did like the crumble toppings on top!

The place also had fast wifi! 128521

My foodie college friends and I decided to roam around San Juan and pig out. We had a game plan ready. Sadly, a few of the stops on our list were closed as it was a Sunday. I was running late (thanks to the crazy Uber surge) and my friends were getting hungry. They then decided to go to a coffee shop nearby named Backyard Coffee.

Hello, Backyard Coffee.

The coffee shop was quite full at 10:30 a.m. with studious youngsters. It was actually pretty quiet there and seemed perfect for those group studies. For a coffee shop, I didn’t get a whiff of coffee beans. 🤔

I approached the counter and read the menu. Since we plan to have around four to five stops, I decided to just have a Grillled Cheese Sandwich (PHP200) and a cup of Cappuccino (PHP120). I had to call the server for my order who was just sitting and texting or tinkering with his gadget. After placing my order, I asked if I have to pay there and he said yes and that was pretty much it. He didn’t even repeat my order or tell me how much I have to pay. Yes, it was just simple math but isn’t that some sort of SOP? In short, customer service sucks! 128547

At least my cup of coffee and sandwich arrived in less than 10 minutes.

My cup of cappuccino had a light taste. I feel like I was drinking half a foam of milk. I was only able to gulp down the slightly bitter coffee when my cup was almost half empty. Nonetheless, it was a good drink if that’s the first thing you’ll drink in the morning. My tummy didn’t hurt at all!

The Grilled Cheese Sandwich was something else though. I loved it!

It had a nice buttery and flaky bread. The cheese was not exactly gooey but it had a nice sharp cheesy taste. It was also good with honey as it created a nice contrast of flavors. I must try to recreate this dish at home!

Overall, it was an okay dining experience. I loved the food I ordered while the drink was okay. Customer service though needs to be improved.

It's really difficult to get comfortable in a coffee shop on a Saturday evening. All the places that we went to was crowded, until we saw this place and took a chance, hoping that we could get a seat. Fortunately we were the only customer during that hour. Coffee was not bad, it had a smooth texture and still has good acidity even with milk.

The ambience > the coffee. Atop the building that houses Rustan's Fresh in San Juan- P. Guevarra area is Backyard Coffee. High ceiling, modern, light wooden furniture, looks inviting. Perhaps too inviting. All tables were seemingly taken despite about 1 person seated per 3-4 chairs. #swapangmuch Most were students from the area, it seemed. So whatever. We sat at the bar stool type chairs and high tables. Tough for my mother in law.

The place certainly is something I'd hang out in if I lived in the area. But I don't. My in laws do.

We ordered coffee. I ordered the salted caramel latte which turned out to be more latte than salted caramel. In fact, I had to practically insist on the basis tail to add caramel because she was starting to justify that their caramel serving was already so and such quantity. But my bayaw and I both agreed that our lattes didn't have even a hint of caramel. So she gave me a shot of caramel which he and I split. Better. Hint of saltiness to the caramel. Still, it didn't get them off the hook in the first place. 3/5

Ambience was great. 4.5/5

Service was a bit slow and the aforementioned incident didn't get me to like them much. Next time, I'm drinking coffee elsewhere.

A Make Up Workshop that I attended happened here. I must say that the food is normal to okay :) I ordered their Silog and iced White Rabbit. Twas nice but I think their pricing is a bit over the top. Maybe that's because they're in San Juan and considering the people living there, which is upper class that's why they have a hefty price.
The servers were very friendly and the ambiance is very cozy. Few people usually hang out here so it's a plus if you need a quiet space to stay.

We were looking for a tea cafe but we don't want milk tea, and I really don't know how we end up having coffee instead. 128517

I had Flat White, while he tried Honey Nut Latte, and we ordered 6(or is it 9?) pcs of crinkles to match our coffees.

The interior looks chic, it is spacious and perfect for study sesh or working sesh. Wifi is available and working good. Plus the overall ambiance is okay. We just hope they have outside seating and more chairs and tables because most of it were occupied by students.

Our coffee came, and I think my flat white is a bit bland than the usual but it was okay. Good thing the crinkles were good and chewy and chocolatey.

Could have added one more 11088️ but the servers aren't that accommodating. 128554 It's like they just wanna go home and the can-attitude is missing.

Been dropping by this café to grab a coffee-to-go, but I've tried working here a time or two. The place is spacious- tables have the perfect height for reading and the chairs are comfortable. Even the counter stools are wide enough to seat you and a bag. There's also a round table at the corner that can cater a small study group. The general area has great light source from picture windows.

Usual order would be a Flat White, or an Iced Latté. The coffee isn't too strong and I like the amount of milk that they put in the mix. The coffee doesn't taste like it's diluted in milk.

Been planning to try their all-day breakfast when I finish some work there soon (they're open until 11PM daily!).

First off, i must say that i am not a regular coffee drinker. I usually grab a cup when i need to be up and about or when i feel like an occasional Frappuccino style, mostly chocolatey drink.

It was the sister's idea to visit this place for lunch. Most tables were occupied but mostly by just one individual on their laptop. I did not notice though if there are available outlets where you can plug in your devices. Although the place had wifi it kept on getting disconnected until i could no longer connect.

On the table
Grilled Cheese Sandwich - seems like mom liked it. It was gone even before i could ask for a bite.
Chicken Sandwich - a plate full of lettuce would have been great if only the dressing wasn't that sweet and the hard parts were not served. The bread is too hard and crumby. The chicken spread was ok. I realized after this that caramelized nuts and i aren't friends.
Salpicao-silog Snack Size - supposedly their bestseller was a disappointment. Beef was tough and did not taste like salpicao. Egg and garlic rice were good though. The price for the portion was not sulit.
Flat White - no complaints nor praises from the sister. I liked the red cup.
Choco Lava - i was expecting the lava to flow out when the cake was cut but i guess it was too thick. It was good though. Just the right sweetness and bitterness
Apple Crumble - no label on the display and i just assumed that's what you call that heavenly slice. The server seemed unsure. It was really really good and that's something from someone who doesn't really eat fruits.

Both desserts were warmed. It took quite a while for them to serve it though and the girl didn't seem too happy when i asked for extra forks. Well more of deadma sya. Our main orders took a while to arrive too. It seemed like there were only 2 servers on duty. At least the guy server was very accommodating and smiley.

I like the feel of the place and i can see myself hanging out there but for the apple crumble and maybe i'll give their coffee a try. I would probably go there for merienda.

*there are more parking slots in the basement.

Ambiance is relaxing, love the huge windows, the clean and simple interior, and the location just above Rustan's Fresh. Their Air-conditioning does not seem to work though. 128528. Coffee is good. Try their iced white rabbit. It is creamy but with a strong coffee taste.

I love their walls. I actually like cheery coffee shops, like this one and Yardstick. There's a comfy nook by the wall with the huge coffee cup that's ideal for hanging out with friends.

The flat white was a bit too bitter for me to like. Will come back and try a black next time.

Pictured are Backyard Coffee's chicken salad and revel bar.

Though I did like the dressing, I was disappointed with the overall thing. The salad had NO cream cheese and candied nuts, as described on their menu :( And, the chicken was a little undercooked for me :( *Buti naman* the greens and mangoes were fresh.

The revel bar, I did enjoy. Not too sweet, despite the glaze that looks so chocolatey. I like its texture--soft and chewy.

Backyard Coffee's saving grace, for me, is its interiors. Spacious, well-lit, and the overall colors are relaxing to the eyes. I also have a special penchant for wood and concrete/stone accents; this place has them, and balanced at that, so that's plus 10 points (to Slytherin. Jk. I just had to.). But they don't have blinds for their windows so you might wanna get a good spot away from them when it's sunny and hot.

PS. Sorry for talking more about the interiors than the food; interior design is taking over my life.

PPS. I've stopped drinking coffee a couple of years ago so there won't be any reviews on that when I decide to come back here. Expect cakes, instead. Lol.

Tried the White Mocha latte (bottom left), I thought it was just okay. Although the serving was pretty big. My friend ordered the choco lava cake though, and it was delicious! Ambience is chill; nice and spacious area. Nice place to catch up over coffee with friends.

Theres nothing special with their coffee. I had their flat white (didnt taste the white part) and my friends had cafa mocha i think. --maybe i ordered the wrong coffee. I was also disappointed because our latte art were just those plain leaves design. But i really loved their choco lava. A big thumbs up for that!
