It's been a while since I graduated from college. Since we all have our separate lives and things to attend to, it is hard to set a meetup with some of my closest friends, my execomm friends in our home organization in college. We got lucky last March 31, as everyone was free then -- so we went ahead and met up at UP Town Center! 128149

After a long deliberation on where to eat, we ended up with Backyard Kitchen + Brew, since both Reginald B and I haven't been here. Thank you to our supportive friends! 128525 Once we got there, we were promptly seated. Menu was handed out, and we got our own individual orders, except one appetizer for sharing:

✅ For Me: KITAYAMA SHORT RIBS (Php 465) - 1108811088110881108811088
When I saw that this dish is made from local Wagyu short ribs, I immediately checked its price tag to see if it fits my budget. Thankfully, it wasn't that expensive at all! This is served with homemade kimchi fried rice, pickled shiitake mushrooms, and a fried egg with a flowy yolk... What more could you ask for? 128523 The beef was flavorful and the slight spice in the kimchi rice complemented the beef really well. 128149 You won't even need the knife they provide. The beef is THAT tender. 128525 Recommended!!!

✅ For Sharing: SALTED EGG CHICKEN SKIN (Php 225) - 11088110881108811088
I liked this, because of the crunchiness of each piece. For salted egg fanatics though, they might not appreciate this as much, as the salted egg flavor is quite faint. Once dipped into the chili pineapple vinegar provided on the side, I found that it gave the chicken skin its depth in flavor, making it truly addictive with each piece you munch on. 128522

Meanwhile, these are the food my friends got, which I got to taste as well:

✅ SLOW ROASTED PORK BELLY (Php 325) - 110881108811088
I didn't taste anything special in this... It's actually just your usual barbecued pork. 128542 I hoped the rhum-coke bbq sauce would be its saving grace -- but unfortunately, it wasn't. Good thing the meat was really tender due to its cooking style.

✅ UNI CARBONARA (Php 355) - 1108811088110881108811088
Okay, this is actually really good. At first bite, I immediately tasted the freshness of the uni. The pasta was al dente, too. I guess the uni gave the dish a certain distinct creaminess we would never get elsewhere. Unique! 128149

✅ PRAWN ALFREDO WITH SALTED EGG (Php 355) - 110881108811088
Pasta was al dente, and the prawns were fresh. 128525 However, the salted egg taste was not that prominent, just like how it was with the chicken skin. For hardcore salted egg lovers, they may find it to be a bit bland, but for me, it was just okay.

✅ PULLED PORK BELLY RICE (Php 275) - 110881108811088
I honestly don't recall much about this. But for this type of rice bowl, it is best to mix the meat, egg, sauce, and rice together to achieve the best taste there is. 128076

✅ 1 PC WAFFLE BREADED FRIED CHICKEN (Php 285) - 11088110881108811088
The chicken had appetizingly crispy skin and juicy meat. 128525 The flavorfulness of the chicken was commendable as well. I wasn't able to taste the whipped bone marrow ciabatta toasts on the side, but I'm sure these will pique the interest of every foodie. 128521

Service was just okay. The food was served relatively quickly despite us having different orders. 128522 The servers weren't the friendliest bunch, but were at least quite attentive to our needs. Ambiance-wise, it was alright -- but I found the place to be a bit too dark. 128532 It was so hard to take good photos! 128541

Overall, we had a good experience. The food was unique, and we had a great time catching up with the group. 128525 Giving them 3.511088 overall.

I've always wanted to try out their flavored beers so despite the slew of restaurants in UP Town Center we chose to have dinner here. The crowd was mostly college students which is not surprising because of its proximity to top universities and colleges. The price of their food is quite steep considering their usual customers are students but they do have buy 2 get 1 free promo for their drinks which makes it a great place to hang out for drinks. I also love the variety and ingenuity of their menu.

Had the Roasted Pork Belly. Good sized serving. Liked how the acidity from the cabbage cut through all the fat in my mouth. Other than that, so-so only. At Php325, not worth it.

My cousin ordered the Sinigang Batchoy, which really disappointed her since she was expecting both the sinigang and batchoy flavors. But she didn't get that. Her exact words were, "I don't know what I'm eating." The serving size disappointed her too

What wigged us out was that when I was about to eat, I reached for a spoon from the container. It's a habit of mine to wipe utensils first before o use them, which turned out to be a blessing today 'cause the spoon I got was dirty. The back of the spoon had what I assumed was sauce that was sticky and dried up.

Our server was kind enough to replace the whole container of utensils but still. Dirty utensils are a no-no

It’s a good concept. It captures the look and a fitting menu to a backyard. It also offers a variety of dishes that you’ll only see here. Most of the ingredients containing what’s popular now.

The menu contained mostly comfort food so we opted to go for some of that a bit healthy stuff. I mostly had the Chicken Sandwich which was disappointing. It’s priced at Php 330 but contained less than 100g of chicken. It’s mostly cheese that you taste in it. The avocado is very absent and did not blend well. I also don’t get so much why most of the sides are chips. I go to a restaurant and get fed by chips I can buy in 7 11. The fries that we ordered separately were unevenly cooked and too oily.

What went well were pricey Kitayama ribs at Php 440. It’s pricey but good. It’s tasty, soft and filled with flavor. Good idea with rice and egg too. The Hazelnut Beer was surprisingly delightful.

We also got Batchoy which was served in a small bowl and Kids Burger which is larger than 2 quarter pounders combined. That I didn’t get too. The burger was good though.

Very cozy place.. Food was perfection.. got the slow roated pork belly and true to its name, the pork was so soft it could melt in your mouth, you could choose either to eat it with rice or mac and cheese l, we got the latter. The buffalo chicken was also a surprise..it was served as a chicken roll, this was a winner for us..you get a bitesize chicken with a big bold flavor-you would taste a cheesy chicken with celery in one bite..celery made it really fresh.. this came with a mayo and sriracha dip.. but with the big flavor in each bite you will seldom use the dips..We also got the backyard burger but i didnt really get to taste it. My daughters loved it though! Price not bad for a very refreshing take on each of their dishes.. super loved this place im definitely going back..

After strolling around UPTC, we ended up here for some snacks. The place is nice and service was good. They also have free wifi, but at the time of our visit it was super slow and barely working.

We ordered..
-Backyard burger: Funny enough,I liked the chips on the side more than the actual burger itself. Though it was slathered with cheese, the patty was still bland.
-Kitkat brownies: The kitkat part was barely there, and that disappointed me a lot as I expected a more prominent kitkat presence. Still, it was good, I suppose, and it's enough to satiate one's sugar cravings. 127800

One of the few establishments that was open late at UP Town Center. Grabbed a beer and catch up with a friend of mine before heading home. Ordered San Mig lemon (65PHp) haven't tried their food though.

For the finale of our training in early July, my then-trainees and I went to this joint to wind down. I must say that I loved their interiors and the overall ambiance-- a nice chillout spot. B-)

I had the Backyard Burger and the Butter Beer. The former was a little bland for my taste (tho this could be improved with condiments) while the latter was perfect. I will probably visit it again soon.

Everything we serve here is sinful. This what our server told us when we asked about their food. The statement is so true because almost everything we had was rich and laced with fat.

The nachos was was mixed with mac n' cheese. It was a bit bland in flavor but you could see it oozing with cheese. The pork sisig had blobs of taba that gave it a rich taste. The pork belly as expected was pure fat swimming in sweet sauce. They also had an interesting way of cooking fried chicken. It had waffle breading with topped with cinammon syrup. It kinda gave a unique twist to your garden variety chicken.

Unless I wanna to kick the bucket early, I would not dine there everyday, but its good to be sinful once in a while.

Hmmmm. Not that eager to go back. Found the place overpriced yet the food is forgettable.

Potato Soup was bland amidst the outpour of ingredients. The chicken skin was good, usual chicken skin flavor, nothing remarkable. Not too oily though.

Nachos were just plain ok. Surprisingly, I didn't like their Backyard Burger! I am a fan of burgers but I don't know. Nothing special about this. Bread was dry and kinda hard to chew. Loved 8 Cuts way even more! Beef patties of 8 Cuts were a lot tastier than this.

My friend ordered their Chicken sandwich which I think was the best among all our orders! It was definitely delicious and stuffing.

Okay I remembered we also had their flavored beers. Caramel and Butter beers were the best. So plus 1 star for that! Service and place was good. Though people flock here most of the time. I don't know why. Haha. Peace!

I am not a patient woman... Waiting is difficult for me... So while waiting for some important news earlier this week, I felt soooo tense... I was a bundle of nerves and I haven't slept well in about a week... I had to do something... So, I asked my bf to accompany me for a round or two of beer on a Sunday night...128517 #smart #tamangsolusyon

UPTC is just crowded on weekends... We were about to go to Rub, but I did not want to wait while waiting (so as not to induce some form of existential crisis)... We just headed to Backyard...

I ordered a glass of Salted Caramel beer initially and we shared an order of their salted egg chicken skin... Ah, beer and cholesterol... A classic combination and a match made in heaven... I happily downed the contents of my glass and craved for another... I decided to try their butterbeer for my second round.... Noooooooo!!!! Why does it taste like beer plus Anchor butter???128529128529128529 Removing the foam did not improve the taste... I found it weird, though I really wanted to like it... Oh well... Sadly, I couldn't finish it... What a waste of perfectly good alcohol...

Lesson learned: I am sticking to the Salted Caramel beer next time...
