(and I am back after being away from looloo for soooo long!)

They say a trip to Tagaytay is never complete without stopping by Bag of Beans for coffee (and of course a meal as well), so I made sure that this place is part of our holiday road trip's itinerary.

Coffee is best early morning, especially on a chilly weather, and I love it when I blow the steamy cup of coffee before taking a sip, then feel the warm liquid caffeine run down into my system, washing away the desire for more sleep.

We woke up especially early for this trip and got to Tagaytay a few minutes to 7, and the weather did not disappoint. It was a bit cloudy and breezy, which is the perfect time and atmosphere (LOL) to have coffee.

BAG OF BEANS HOUSE BLEND COFFEE (130 Php) ★★★☆☆
The coffee was really fragrant and smooth. However, it was below my expectations. The richness of the smell and its actual taste was not at par. Maybe my nose was just expecting too much? Or my tastebuds that day were rather weak? I don't know...

SUPER CHEF's SALAD (280 Php) ★★★★★
I really really love vegetable salads in Tagaytay! Almost all restaurants here serve salads that are big in serving size (while not being overly pricey), with super fresh veggies!

I super loved this salad as it has all the ingredients I love! I don't need to say more, because all salads taste like... well... veggies....

BREAKFAST SAMPLER (480 Php) ★★★★☆
"two eggs, bacon strips, pork sausage, ham, hash browns, two buttermilk pancakes, baked beans, and grilled tomato"

When I asked the waiter how their serving sizes are, he told me that this one is good for two. But what was served surprised me! It was super big! I think it's enough to feed three people to fullness.

Tastewise, the meat were not really exceptional, but they were good. The pancakes, on the other side of the plate, is worth raving for. At first glance it looks gigantic; at first cut of the fork and knife it felt really thick and dense; but at first bite followed a lot more until there was nothing left. I loved super loved the pancakes (because who doesn't love pancakes right!!)

D'LODGE FRITTATA (360 Php) ★★☆☆☆
"our egg casserole is layered with potatoes, sausage, bacon, onions, tomatoes, red peppers, and mushrooms. topped with cheddar cheese. served with breakfast rolls and fresh fruit cup."

This was another hefty serving by Bag of Beans! The frittata was bigger than my face! Flavorwise, though, it wasn't as grand as its size, and I think it is meant to be shared. We each had a quarter of the frittata and just as I was already in the last bite of my quarter, I got kind of "umay" with it. The taste was nothing spectacular, just like homemade scrambled eggs with random stuff tossed into it.

Too mushy and a bit overflavored I guess?

GRILLED 3 CHEESE SANDWICH (260 Php) ★★★☆☆
with Tomato Bisque

I didn't really know what to expect from this because there was no description in the menu. What was served are two focaccia herbed bread with loads of cheese stuffed into it, some homemade fries, and the tomato bisque (which was like some cheesy orange dip).

I really liked the fries and the tomato bisque, and the sandwich was okay. The first bite was really great, but the more of it you consume, the more you realize how closer you are to dying of too much sodium. It was toooo salty!

Sayang, the taste was already there, but too much of something is bad.

OVERALL: Serving sizes were king of kings, but food was great but not something I'd wake up too early for (anymore).

Service was commendable. Despite we were a big group, they made sure we were seated together. I ordered iced caramel macchiatto which is quite sweet. The frozen blueberry cheesecake was good - not too sweet.

Good food + Amazing view

Arrived at around 11am and luckily, ang daming vacant tables! Yaay! I asked to be seated outside para may view. I ordered my favorite, Beef Tapa (P320). Sa pagkakatanda ko, parang P260 lang siya before pero mahal ko pa rin siya kahit nagmahal siya. Lol.

I looove their tapa. I wanted to order dessert but I was really full so I just ordered coffee after finishing my tapa. (Nainggit ako sa Breakfast Platter ng nasa kabilang table. Orderin ko yun next tome!)

It was raining in Tagaytay when I went there for work.
I know that Bag of Beans is the top food stop in the location so since I got time, why not take a break first?

Wasn't that hungry so I just ordered coffee and cake.

Caramel Macchiato (Php 140.00) - i don't know if it's just cold in Tagaytay which made me feel like my coffee is not that hot. Sweetness is just fine but coffee was too bitter for my taste like I need to add more water. But still tolerable. Serving size is a bit small for the price.

Frozen Blueberry Cheesecake (Php 170.00) - I was surprised by the generous blueberry sauce! 128522 The cake has 2 layers, the bottom part tastes like white chocolate. Yummy!

Bag of Beans Athena
Rate: 10/10

After we went back to City after our Taal Lake Tour, we had our lunch to the newest branch of the famous Cafè on Tagaytay, the Bag of Beans Athena. The place is so coool. Overlooking Taal. Fresh Air. Delicious food. Nice staff. AND the live pianist on the side makes you love your stay here in this cafe. The dishes are quite expensive compare to other cafès but it was so worth it! The food so outstanding. For our lunch, I had:

P260.00
-Pork Tocino with two frieds eggs and garlic rice

P130.00
-Hot chocolate. This is so rich like the Hot Batirol chocolate drink in Baguio

P110.00
-Blueberry Cheesecake. This is so yummy and rich.

Everything on this place is so perfect, this is largest branch of Bag of Beans and the coolest. The interior of the cafe is sophisticated. This is located just a few meters away from the Serin Ayala Mall.

They also have Bed and Breakfast which costs P6,000 per night.

My husband and I are fans of impromptu laboys which usually lead us to one of our favorite quick get aways---Tagaytay (or what he fondly calls Tags ever since we were dating). Our Sunday escapade brought us to Bag of Beans, wherein the first branch was our target but traffic was bad that we had to change course and immediately turn left as soon as we saw the sign along the highway (thinking that "same same" lang naman and besides we were still in Tags).

Pricey for the budget conscious family, but sometimes it's ok to splurge a little bit especially if food is involved (and experience too). 9749127856

For my little family of three, we spent a little less than Php 1,500 which I think is more than ok for spending for food, ambience, experience (minus the "mix up" with other people's orders so we had to wait for another 15 mins before it was served which actually was a bummer for my husband who almost almost ALMOST cancelled everything) and the joy of seeing our son so happy clicking away with his camera 📸:

Buttermilk Pancakes-four-stack pancake with butter on top and a slice of orange and a syrup on the side. Nothing superb about it but since my son's palate is not too complicated to satisfy he loved it, so I think it's ok.

Pork Chop (which I couldn't remember the "real" name for it)-husband was happy with his two chops along with the mashed potato, a slice of grilled bell pepper, half of a small tomato and an onion. The chops seemed to be dry but the taste compensates its texture. Not too salty which actually brings out the yummy-ness of the meat. The mashed potatoes, however, is to die for. I could just eat it again and again even without any sauce.

Shepherd's Pie-good thing my patience was on high since it was served last. My boys enjoyed it so much that I think I only get to have four forkfulls of it. Mashed potato on top of the meat.

Houseblend Coffee-I could not understand what was going on my cup of joe (or maybe my taste for coffee has gone blah!), hah! But it was refreshing enough that I liked it, haha.

Hot chocolate-my son didn't like it a bit since it was served cold.

Blueberry Cheesecake-two thumbs up for the dessetarians of the family, my son and I. Surprisingly, I didn't hear any complains from the husband since he despises any berry flavored dessert. So this one is one for the books!

If it weren't for the poor service and the too little washroom, I would have loved the food. Thanks to the breath taking view that, in a way, has lifted whatever negative feedback I have for this place. Someday, when traffic is not too much, we will be trying out the first branch of Bag of Beans.

Such a beautiful place! It's a shame the service was subpar.

Stopped for coffee at Bag of Beans before heading back to manila a few days ago. This is one of their new 'branches'; same everything except there's a B&B just below the restaurant.

The place was classy, classic, and fresh. The smell of coffee comforts and welcomes you when you enter the main dining hall. It was love at first sight (and smell).

Unfortunately, the ambiance was the best part of our visit.

Our group ordered a Barako coffee, blueberry cheesecake, apple pie, and buttermilk pancakes. The apple pie was okay - i would've wanted it to be sweeter and with more cinnamon flavour. But thats just me. The pancakes were blah; nothing more to say about that.

If it's your first time here, i would suggest to get a pie (savoury or sweet) and a cup of coffee. The Barako coffee we had was bold and robust - good, but i personally prefer the more subltle flavour and aroma of the Arabica houseblend. The blueberry cheesecake was fantastic! Not too sweet, not too tangy, just right. It was surprisingly light too.

Of course they sell their beans in bags. You can get them whole or ground. The only problem i had with bringing some home was that it didn't seem like they sealed the bags well. I figured that if this place is known for their coffee and beans, then they could've at least paid more attention to packaging of their product. The bags were clear, and you could see that there was moisture inside. It also didn't have a degassing valve, and a manufacturing/expiry date. They bags were also stored near the door, and may have repeatedly been exposed to direct sunlight. I didnt bother bringing any home since i was afraid they would've already gone rancid.

On the otherhand, the pies we bought were packed carefully, and travelled well. It was a good choice to bring these home instead.

The service wasn't good for such a nice place. People were rushing here and there; and I felt like the servers didn't pay much attention to our needs. Even though we sat deadsmack in the middle of the dining area, they passed us a few times without even acknowledging our call for service. They also forgot some of our orders like the hot chocolate, steak pie, and another cup of coffee. I would've understood this kind of service if the place was packed, but we were there at 4:30 on a tuesday afternoon-the place was not full. It came to a point where we somehow felt like they ignored us on purpose na.

Inspite the service we got during our visit; i was satified with our merienda at bag of beans.

The hotel that we stayed in was very far from Olivarez! It's near in People's Park but it's our fault because we did not booked a hotel in advance.

We were supposed to go to Sky Ranch and have dinner kaso lang it was too far na and the jeepneys were just until 8pm.

I ordered their Lasagna and Frozen Chocolate.

Lasagna - I liked it. A bit sour because the sauce is made from tomatoes and generous serve. Good for the price.

Frozen Chocolate - Nothing's special. Tasted like a powdered milk (let's say, Sustagen or Lactum or Bear Brand Choco in my opinion). Didn't enjoyed it much.

The place was great, good ambiance but the staf weren't that attentive.

Blueberry Cheesecake - 7/10
Blueberry overpowered the cheese.

Ceasar Salad - 7/10
A bit salty maybe because of the bacon.
Wished that they'd be more generous with the dressing, though it was ample.

Hot Chocolate - 9/10
One of the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted.

Service - 7/10
We also ordered shepherds cake. It never came.
Maybe it's just me but it felt like that we were being ignored.

Enjoyed the Breathtaking view and Cool Breeze more than the food...Tagaytay is famous for its indoor outdoor restos and the place is packed here at Bag of Beans. The theme of the place is bed and breakfast so they have small rooms where you can check in and the resto is on the upper part so imagine how hard the parking is esp for us - we rode the grandia for our big group and it was really steep 128561 going down the parking space. We ordered the bottomless kapeng barako and it was just so so bec we felt its kulang sa tapang and the fresh buko was really big but we just drank the juice and parang "makunat" na yung laman matanda na yung mga buko served much better sana if we can eat it for a P125 buko 128532 The Tanigue Steak lacks taste and it became dry bec the slice was too thick but the Salmon with mango salsa was better - better order this even though its much expensive. Adobo is ok and the Fish & Chips was approved by the kids. The fries was a bit soggy so its a bit oily but the taste was ok128077🏻 After eating we enjoyed picture taking and the view was really relaxing! 128522 Maybe we should have just ordered their breakfast menu because I heard a lot of good reviews about their breakfast 128513 Lastly, get seats outside to fully enjoy the experience coz its darker and hotter inside 9996🏻️

I enjoyed the banana walmut pancake. One order can feed two hungry people. Despite its thickness the pancake was still fluffy. The slice of orange which was placed on the plate actually added an interesting zest to it. Goes very well with coffee.
