We had a quick business meeting last week and wanted it somewhere nearby....

Most of us havent been here so we are here at Balkan.

Place is dark yet exotically decorated with the Eastern Europe style.

Our hosts recommended some dishes we tried thus have no choice but go along with it.

We have some greek salad and goulash for our starters.

Had the Yugoslavian burger (PJKESKAVICA) w mozza cheese inside.

The experience was new and quite intriguing to my palate.

I thought it would be full of turmeric (which i hate)...

Food were freshly prepared and the goulash alone was filling already thus had some leftovers of the main course.

May come back soon for the fambam who doesnt wanna go out of their comfort zone in terms of cuisine.

The people at work have been wanting to come back here to eat for lunch over the past few months but we only got to try it out last Friday! Finally, renovations are done and the place is back in business! 128077🏼

Since we all wanted to try everything, we decided to order for the table to share, which was a good idea since the items here can be a bit on the pricey side for just a lunch. 128517

GOULASH
This classic beef stew hit the spot! Their goulash had some pasta in it so it's pretty good to have as is with the bread and pita. It's a bit spicy but it's not extreme. I used the sauce in almost everything! 128514 Even the mashed potatoes.

STUFFED PLJESKAVICA
I really loved this ground beef patty stuffed with mozzarella cheese! The beef was soft and tender and well seasoned.

CHICKEN BATAK
The grilled chicken was really tasty! I think it was marinated and cooked really well. 128077🏼 The chicken was still juicy!

BUTKICE U SACU
The name's so hard to pronounce!! But basically it's just oven baked pork knuckles! 10084️ The pork was really soft and the broth was also flavorful!

Even without rice, I did feel quite full after a while. They serve the goulash with bread and pita so that's a good source of carbs hehe. The pljeskavica and chicken batak also have mashed potatoes, but you can opt to choose rice with it! 128077🏼

Too full for my own good because of something good. Craving for meat satisfied. It may not have been a steak but meat is meat and it is a wonderfully prepped dish of pork stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon; P380. Add P30 for buttered rice and you're sure to have a heart attack and a lovely time naman. 128513128539

Took the dish quite long to prepare though. Got served 35 mins after we ordered. I like that this place doesn't get full during lunch.

There were few people in the place when we had dinner here. But my goodness was the service so slow. And the food was not anything impressive. I even actually forgot what we ordered. Won't be going back here.

I've been avoiding this place for a while and that changed when i felt a strong craving for their food. I was gladly joined by my co-worker and it turned out to be a quick dinner.

The porkloin is worth your money at P380 because it is two long rolls stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon. The pork is tender and the cheese oozing out each slice you make. This is served with fries or rice and I chose the latter. This time I requested for it to be buttered and it amped up the dish a zillion levels. You can imagine my enjoyment since it's a balance of meat, fat and carbs. The plate is full and more than enough to fill your stomach.

I left the place very satisfied!! The service also improved. Am not sure if it's new staff, though.

Will come back but maybe after a while.

This is my first time to get a taste of Balkan food. I really didn't know what to expect, and it didn't help that I couldn't really understand or pronounce the dishes on the menu. 128517

First impression was the food would be pretty average, based on the pictures. What a pleasant surprise it was when I finally tried what was on our plates. The meat was bursting with flavors and grilled just right, whether it was the beef, pork, or chicken. Actually, most of their menu revolves around various meats stuffed with cheese. Or cheese and bacon. Or stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon. You probably get the point... and thats not necessarily a bad thing. 128077

The restaurant is empty yet it Took them 20mins to serve my food. Two followups Ordered the stuffed beef which is not at all complicated. The girl and guy manning the tables also disappeared to go make chika chika and left me and the one other table to fend for ourselves. How disappointing.

The menu is a bit pricey, but the size of the orders makes up for a bit. I was able to try a few different orders and they all had one thing in common, they all lacked the oomph factor, there wasn't a strong flavor to them but still decent nonetheless. I would probably still come back since I liked the Chicken Kebab.

Heavy meal before the loooooooooooong night begins! I had initially wanted to order the stuffed pork loin but changed my mind. I wish i hadn't because the chicken kebab wasn't the same flavor i remembered it to be. Oh well, could have been a memory gap there.

The wait staff likes hiding behind the bar (because it is a tall bar) so it's hard to get their attention. Wish they could improve that. Maybe when i can pronounce their best-seller, they'll improve. 128522

When a friend invites you for a beer, you never say NO. You always say, YES, later. Because you know said friend will have more bottles and that one beer for you is really four beers, controlled. He started at Ba Noi's Perea which I didn't know was a drinker's joint at night. Beer there is P45 a bottle but they were all out. He moved to Piggy Wiggy where i met him nursing a bottle of San Mig light. The heat too intense and the food didn't appeal to me that i suggested we move a few more establishments down the road, Balkan.

I would have more food options and he would have cheap beer. Alas, the latter turned out to be false. They used to have P50 beers but now turned P70. Oh well, he needed to satiate his Thirstday and I needed to get food in me. Slated to order the chicken kebab as I enjoyed it very much the last time, i was reminded to stay away from very high allergy food for two weeks. Two weeks! That won't sit well, but anyway, let's try it. I ordered the stuffed pork loin. One, i could have pork and i could have it fried. Two, this was stuffed with cheese and salami and rolled with bacon - more pork, perfect! Cheese was on my NO list but i figured the pork would mask that and act like it wasn't there. I accompanied my order with a bottle of light as well, lest my friend ask me if i was not going to drink.

We sat in the smoking area, which was a table of four outside under their elevated canopy. I used to remember it being more spacious as our group of seven used to eat here. The beers came (and kept coming) and eventually my food. The rice was a lot! That never fazed me, though. Just like their other food, this was also very good. But the taste was very similar to the rest of their food - meat, cheese, salt. It's like they have one flavor just with different meats or i could remember it wrong. My meal was done and also the four beers i had predicted. I left knowing i established good ties with an old acquaintance and i guess an allergy. Bah! Curable by medicines. Not trading this day at all.

Looking for a different kind of cuisine, we tried Balkan Express, a place that serves Yugoslavian cuisine.

Tried the Chicken Kebab and Stuffed Pljeshavica (no, I don't know how to pronounce that 128517).

The Chicken Kebab was just okay, neither was it juicy nor hard. It was a bit spicy but tolerable.

The Stuffed Pljeshavica was like a big, soft juicy steak with mozzarella cheese. I really liked this. The meat was spicy, but the cheese tempered down the spice.

The side of fries was a bit small, and it's not filling. The fries tasted like the ones you buy in the supermarkets, so it's nothing special, as well. I would recommend that you get the rice instead.

The servers were just okay, but it was a bit hard to get their attention, even if we were the only ones dining.

All in all, although the food was okay and interesting, I'm not really raring to go back. It's not something I would crave for.128512

Honestly, i wasn't familiar with the Yugoslavian cuisine so, i decided to try Balkan with some hesitation. Little did i know, i was in for a treat!

The place is tucked away in Perea and is east enough to spot. You won't miss it because of the Serbian sign! It was cozy inside and the ambiance was nice. The place wasn't too packed and quiet as well!

I got the Arugula salad with chicken. You can have it grilled pr breaded depending on your preference. The serving size is just right if you're super hungry! I found the dressing to be a tad bit sweet so i didn't bother to mix it all up with the greens. The chicken was heavenly and seasoned well.

The Pljeskavica (Plyes-kah-vee-tsah) burger was amazing! It's even better than most burger joints in my opinion. It wasn't too salty, it was cooked well and really, the quality of the meat is superb! It wasn't a fancy burger. It wasn't trying to be over the top or what-not. It was simply, a great and homey tasting burger. I caught myself smiling at every bite! 127828

Lastly, i enjoyed pointing to menu items which were challenging to pronounce as the server was glad enough to teach the correct way of saying them. They get that a lot i think! 128517

Another reason to eat outside; it was my best friend's birthday celebration and I wanted to impress my best friends so I initially suggested Your Local. But then, unfortunately the whole place were reserved already. And I have no idea where to bring them, and thanks to Kirby G for the heads up in Balkan. 128588

The "cheese factory" as I call it. We had the three best selling dishes in the house, plus my other friend and I, ordered starters first while waiting for the other one. 128513

Chicken Kebab - grilled chicken breast wrapped with bacon (and BACON means yummy) I am rating this 4 stars

Karadjodjeva - deep fried chicken breast roll filled with feta cheese; I don't remember how to read this thing but this is like cordon bleu but so much better 128523 4 stars on this one!

Stuffed Pljeskavica - ground beef steak stuffed with mozzarella; I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS ONE! 128525 all those cheese that comes out from the beef everytime I take a slice, I just can't bear the goodness. 128525 One problem, i dont know how to pronounce this one. (Rinig ko "eskabeche") 128514 Another problem, no dip that is perfect for this one.

We also had fries and cabbage salad which are all good. The cabbage smelled like smelly armpits but tasted good!

Minus 1 star for the unfriendly servers. I feel like they don't want to serve us; they act like they are tired and snobbish and whatnot.

Oh well, I am here for the food. 128517

I never thought I'd get to eat in a Yugoslavian restaurant in this country. My officemate found this place and brought us here for (an apparently heavy) dinner. I ordered Grilled Pork Fillet, nothing fancy, just a huge slab of meat that tasted like marinated porkchop, while my bf ordered Stuffed Pljeshavica, beef with mozzarella inside. Didn't think they would go well together but I liked the balanced taste of meat and cheese. However, there's that "umay factor" because of the oil. I guess the only thing missing was the sauce. They don't provide steak sauce or anything similar with the meal, just mayo and ketchup which I think was meant for the fries. 128517

Interiors are fancy, ideal for a romantic date. Their staff are really accommodating. Price is also reasonable, approximately Php 250-400 per person. Must be legit since most of the people dining in are foreigners. Overall, it was a good food experience.

Look at that meat! Would you believe that has mozarella cheese inside? 128586 I didn't at first. But boy was it good! The ground beef steak was juicy, and glides well in your mouth. I'm no meat lover but I would definitely visit this place for this. 128077

And oh, the name of the dish is Stuffed Pljeskavica (P 330). 128522

Another round of Team Clingy's "No Baon Wednesdays" lunch eatup. This time, we went to Balkan to try their Yugoslavian home cooked meals which had been raved from most of the reviews I read. Most of these reviews suggested this certain dish which I'm so excited to try.

My friends got there earlier so they already held our seats reserved for us. I got the dish #18 (on the menu) or the Stuffed Pljeskavica for Php 330,00. I asked the server how it should be pronounced and gave us some sort of tutorial about it. Later on, we already forgot hot it was called. 128514 Basta yun na yun! Well at least, the servers were entertaining and not snobbish.

So the food came in and wow, it was really big. I asked the server to serve it with rice instead of the fries. It's a ground beef steak stuffed with mozarella cheese. Sounds good right? Soft and tender beef, and the cheeze slowly flowing down in every cut. Boom sarap! The serving was actually big and was perfect for sharing, that is if you're both watching your calorie intake. But for me, ha! I finished it all! 128584

Would love to go back to try out their other dishes especially the kebabs and the pork loin.

Welcome back JP G! And thanks for the company Carla M, Chichi T, Yina M, Kirby G, Julie J & Eunice S!128526128526128526

Lunch out with #TeamClingy again! Chichi T Russel F Kirby G Eunice S Yina M Julie J and balikbayan (hahaha) JP G. 127881 Walked all the way to Perea to give this resto another try. I wasn't so happy with my order before e. Haha!

I was torn between the Serbian Burger and Chicken Sandwich. The latter won. Yeah, I usually prefer chicken over pork. 9786️ The grilled chicken was kinda bland. Thank God they served it with ketchup on the side... #lifesaver. It would've tasted better with cheese and bacon. I liked the bread though. It was soft, chewy and very filling. I wasn't able to finish the top bun anymore. 128517 I'm guessing they bake their own bread coz it was different from other breads sold commercially. Chichi liked the fries! Haha right, Chi? 128521 Took a bite of Kirby's bacon wrapped pork and it was good. So cheesy! 128076

Till next time #TeamClingy!! Next week pala. Dapat complete na! 128513

Mabuhay to our alta friend JP G! Love, your indio friends! Hahaha!

Moving on...

I therefore conclude that the Yugoslavians love their cheese! A lot of their items are actually filled with cheese and who am I to complain?

I got Yina M's recommendation -- Stuffed Plieskavica, beef stuffed with mozzarella served with fries! Carbo loading yet again! I couldn't even pronounce its name but yes, that one's nice! The serving was quite big so as much as I wanted to finish the whole thing, I just couldn't! The beef was so tender, I can cut it easily with one slice. Love the cheese oozing with every cut. You can also choose to go with rice instead of fries, but I guess that's way too heavy for me. This meal costs P330, not bad since if you happen to be light eaters, you can actually split the dish.

So how does my 1st Yugoslavian meal fare? Great! I'm quite curious to try their other items next time.
