ZooAmazing!

For our 3rd itinerary of our Ilocos Heritage Tour and Travel trip last April 28 is the the zoo of Gov. Chavit Singson.

What makes this a must see attraction is that the animals came from other countries and it was Chavit Singson private collection.

There were horseback riding , encounter with the tiger and phyton, I've got a chance to have picture taking with the parrots that was putted on my shoulders and they were safe. The place was very big and were so lucky before we leave Baluarte we had the chance to meet the man behind this mini zoo, Mr. Chavit Singson. He was so humble and gentlemen , he accommodate all the tourists who wants to have picture taking with him.

Aside from mini zoo, there were a lot of souvenir shops inside the place. A memorable experience in our Ilocos Trip. Must see , it's so ZooAmazing128052🦁128047

Arrived at Ilocos and this was our second stop on our first day. Juskolerd ang init. 128293 Went here on Friday so medyo madaming tao. As you enter the place you will be greeted by birds. Not far from the reception area are the ostrich and the ducks. The famous Baluarte sign can also be seen from afar. The place is so big and there are only a few shade of trees to keep you away from the heat of the sun. On the uphill side is where the tigers are found. I got excited of course. 128514 There are a lot of animals found in Baluarte but I don't have the chance for see them all. I guess visiting the place at 11am not a good idea kasi tirik na yung araw. 128529

In the parking area there are many food or souvenir stalls. This is where I had the chance to taste the version of Ilocos' kalamay. I never thought they had this kind of delicacy. It's delicious. 128523

We were stuck in traffic in La Union (jeskelerd why?) so we ended up arriving Vigan at 1630 hours. Good thing Baluarte closes at 1800 hours. Entrance and parking is free but if you want to have your photos taken with some animals, you have to pay (50php for horseback riding of 5-10 minutes with the pony/donkey).

Daughter had the chance to feed some deers, no additional fee. The tiger looks scary and aggresive. Not like the tigers you see in Paradizoo na mukhang busog. Gutom na yata yung tiger. We also saw some peacocks, geese and the construction site of what looks like a water show. They have seal/sealion statue, I guess they'll be showing sealion shows?

The Safari Gallery is disturbing. We saw dead photos of animals hunted by Chavit. Are those displayed actual animals he killed? If so, I don't want to see it. Offspring didn't like the gallery. I'm not sure if she's not feeling well because of the smell (mapanghi) or the photos disturbed her as well.

We're filing this as been there, done that and not go back. Buti na lang libre. I'd hate to give more money to Chavit to finance his unnecessary animal hunts.

1. Today in Vigan we just checked out this place. The Safari Gallery, I think, contained taxidermy-ed animals and mounted heads of these poor creatures poached by Chavit Singson, along with pictures of him and his lifeless prize including lions, hippopotamus, bear.and elephant. Some animals like bear and tiger, are made into a carpet. I was kind of not pleased with that. I wish the animals displayed there were fake, but those pictures of Chavit with the "trophies" he killed just turned me off.

2. The wide, open grassland where horses and deers run seemed so parched, and the draft animals seemed tired and overworked. I wish this so-called "wildlife sanctuary" protects the animals well unless ex-Gov. Chavit has already killed them. Mejo nakaka-badtrip lang. 128078

3. The souvenir shop there was nice though; that was the only agreeable thing about this place.

Baluarte is one of the best points of interests in Vigan and I recommend you visit the place especially if you’re traveling with kids. There, you will enjoy the sight of different kinds of animals, some roaming freely on the vast land, basking under the sun. It also has a Butterfly Garden that houses a variety of butterflies of different colors and sizes.

What I liked most about the Baluarte is the chance to see animals that are not common in regular zoos. They have turkeys, deer, the oh-so-cute miniature horses, civet cats (alamid), bear cats, and the real star of the zoo, the camels. They also have different kinds of birds like Rufous-Necked Hornbill, Sun Conure, Blue Gold Macaws, Umbrella Cockatoo, doves, peacock, etc. Of course, there are Singson’s favorite pets, the tigers, which are safely locked up in their cage.

Baluarte zoo is open as early as 7AM and closes down at 6PM. It has no entrance fee, even riding horses is free of charge, now isn’t that cool?

Just saw posts in FB and remembered my visit years back...

Absolutely hated this place because of the inhumane treatment of the animals. Though Chavit Singson may be an animal lover (question mark due to the mounted animals from his hunting expeditions), not all of his posse were. I remember berating one of the handlers when he hit the chimpanzee with a bamboo stick... Grrrrrr! I wish the tiger would bite him. It's sickening when people don't respect animals.

No pictures. Absolutely hated it here!

First stop we made was here in Baluarte, owned by Gov. Chavit Singson.

It was super hot cos we arrived at around 10 a.m. and the zoo was a bit crowded. I did not enjoyed much because it was just a typical zoo plus there were only few animals you can find there. Kawawa mga animals dun huhu 128549

There's an animal gallery also and you can see there the animals hunted by Gov. Chavit himself.

So yeah.. went here for pictures only hahahaha nothing special.

Got to see the infamous "Baluarte". Pretty nice place. Was able to see a few animals that I've never seen in real life. Like deers and more of the like.

The bengal tigers were the highlight though. Majestic. Something funny really happened. We got close up to the cages of the tigers. One of the tigers turned it's back on us and squirted piss! Good thing I wasn't in it's direct path. My friends were unlucky though. They went home smelling like tiger piss. Haha.

Another thing that struck me the most is Chavit's house/office. It's probably 10 storeys tall. And GOLD. Big pimpin!

Last review of the spots we went to in Ilocos, decided not to do a review of the other places since it wasn't as note worthy.

This place according to the locals was the private zoo of Mr. Singson before he decided to turn it into a public park with a small fee to help maintain the place. It actually has a function hall too if you want to hold events there.

Inside are giraffes, small horses, goats, birds of different varieties, dinosaur sculptures which is pretty much the dominating scene you see around. But you also see that it isn't well maintained, the small horses are carriages tied on them which isn't fun for the horse. You can buy some grass to feed the goats and seeds for the birds.

They also have a show where they have the animals interact with the park goers. I suggest that you DON'T volunteer. Almost got tricked into holding the giant python. ;)

All in all - it was ok. I wish they actually made it into a real park which really takes care of the animals.

Ponies, ostriches, geese, snakes, bearcats, macaws, deer, albino peacocks, tigers and dinosaurs, YES, DINOSAURS! I would not have believed it had I not seen it with my own two eyes. AJ was all agog with curiosity and could not restrain himself from skipping from one animal to the next. A family friendly zoo in the heart of Vigan with animal shows, butterfly gardens, and calesita rides. Best of all, everything is FREE! Thanks Gov. Singson! 128516
