I like Barcino because of the ambience and the good variety of wines they could offer - from cheap to really expensive good wines, they have it.

What I don't like about the place is their overpriced food. Well the sausage platter is okay and it is what I loved the most. But the Paella Negra and Cheese Platter is just a big no for me.

The cheese tasted as if it came from our Grandma's closet - I mean I cannot even find the right words to describe how it tasted, all I know is it is that bad and we had no choice but finish it because it is P800!!!!! I'll just make my own cheese platter at home, cheaper at mas fresh for sure.

I’m very fond of paella, because i know it’s not that easy to make. Even though, we were once colonized by Spain, it’s quite rare for me to find a restaurant that serves really good paella.

Anyway, I was in the area and was craving for Spanish food, so my date and i decided to grab a bite here instead.

Under TAPAS, We ordered JAMON NICO (Php 200+), which can’t be found on the menu, it is freshly sliced cured pig leg. So what is “jamon”? Well, it translates to “ham” in English. As for “nico”? well, i don’t know why it is called Jamon Nico. haha It probably is called that because it was first made by someone named Nico or maybe there is another reason behind it. I’m just guessing. But for those who aren’t familiar with how Spanish Hams are usually made, well most goes through a curing process - (a.) meat covered in generous amount of salt (b.) washing of the ham with lukewarm water to remove salt crystals (c.) resting period, when hams are kept in cold room temperature for a month or 2, which removes water from the ham and thus making the meat denser in weight and remaining salt penetrates through the meat. (d.) Drying and Aging period. The longer hams are kept, the tastier it gets. It is better paired with slices of bread with tomatoes, garlic and a little bit of olive oil and even better with a glass of red wine or a good cold beer. That night, we paired our with breads, tomatoes, olive oil and cheese. The Jamon was delicious, but i’m pretty sure not everyone will appreciate this.

As for the cheese we ordered? well we ordered QUESO MANCHEGO (Php 390), sheep milk cheese from the La Mancha region. I’m not really fond of this cheese, but i’m pretty sure someone out there do appreciate this kind of cheese.

Under ARROCES, I ordered PAELLA NEGRA (Php 525), black squid ink paella rice with squid and aioli and sliced lemon on top. Well, this has always been my favorite Paella. It may leave your mouth and teeth some black stains while you eat it, but it’s worth every bite. Actually, it was my first time to try Barcino’s Paella Negra and it seriously did not disappoint me. I would say, so far this restaurant’s paella negra won top 1 among all the other ones i’ve had at other Spanish restaurants. It was cooked perfectly, moist, it didn’t have burnt rice underneath, seasoning was just right and i love it with the aioli drizzled on top. This one is actually good for 3, and one of you can even get another scoop of it. I would definitely go back for this.

Under PESCADOS, we ordered CHIPIRONES ENCEBOLLADOS (Php 490), which is grilled baby squids on a bed of caramelized onions and potatoes in white wine sauce. This dish looks appetizing to eat, but i think they had too much caramelized onions that over powered the taste of grilled baby squid and smaller than Pic-nik sized potatoes. The squid were cooked just right, but this dish tasted just Okay. Not something, i’d look or crave for though.

Under TRADICIONALES, we ordered CALLOS A LA MADRILEÑA (Php 550), which is Madrid-style soup with chorizo, beef, tripe and chickpeas. Well, it’s one of their chef’s recommended dishes, but i wasn’t quite amazed by this dish. I even think we had more tripe than beef and sausages. Not worth it. It’s just a so so dish.

Overall, I still enjoyed our dinner date that night, all because of their good service and the unforgettable taste of the delicious paella negra.

To continue the birthday celebration of our friend, we headed to Barcino because she requested for a wine night. We ordered a bottle of white. Terrapura Chardonnay. We were seated in the corner booth front of the bar. Place had a good ambiance and music inside wasn't deafening. The wine was good. Fresh, crisp, with hints of orange, Apple, and honey.

Service was good.

That funny fiasco last Friday made me look for pictures of the tjme when my friends and I used to frequent Barcino...

I've been to the City Golf and Greenbelt branches, but I do prefer the Greenbelt branch... Better parkjng and more choices... This was also during the time when I frequented Makati due to the clubs and bars in the area...128515

So, our barkada really has a tradition of drinking after a particularly difficult exam week... Ok, we went out after each exam week... Ugh, fine! We drank as much and as often as we could, even at each others' apartment and at their sorority houses... Regular days included. There. Medicine is a difficult undertaking!128513 No judgements!

Here is one of the times we celebrated another exam week down, happy to have survived the stress! Our orders usually consist of margaritas, amaretto sour, mojitos or Jack and coke... Margaritas are a particular favorite, as we are obviously an all-girl barkada... Not big on eating a lot of pica-pica... Not too picky about it either...

Wherever we choose to go, it is always a fun night with these women! 128536

My friend and I were in the mood for some sangria and I've heard that they make good ones here.

Luckily, they have a Happy Hour promo (from 3-6pm) - Sangria is half the price and comes with a free pincho, so yay for us. We got 2 each, one white and one red so we can compare. Hehe

Both are good, but the red one though's sweeter than the white. And you can taste the wine more in the white sangria. So if you're up for the more distinct wine taste then get the white.

The server told us that the red sangria's a favorite though. Maybe because of its subtle wine taste.

We also got the Croquettas Pollo Y Hamon (295) and the Patatas Bravas (225) which basically is fried potatoes with mayonnaise mixture on top.

The Croquettas were really filling, and good! It only has 4pcs in one serving but it's good with the sangria! I normally don't like the dipping on drizzled on top of my fries coz it makes it saggy sometimes but the Patatas was delicious despite of the mayo on it.

I think I've found my new favorite drink - Sangria! Will definitely be back to try their tapas and maybe their paella and coffee liqueur128513

Hi! I don't usually post complaints here.
We experienced mistreatment on our own land by a foreigner chef... 128531
What we want is just a written explanation, why on earth our CARBONARA PASTA have more than 10 pieces of fish scales!!! Sad to say that some of the fish scales been eaten by my brother in law, sister in law and my husband. Do we have photos of it? The staff was too fast to get it all out128542 Did they gave us our request letter? No they didn't (order daw ng HR & OM not to submit any letter to us.)... We waited more than an hour but the rude Foreigner Chef was over the top. They want us to submit a formal complaint to HR & OM. Oh yah! The CHEF gave us a calling card and reiterated to us to submit a formal letter to the email address that he wrote. Later we found out, it's his personal email address. Hay naku!!! Of course I took a video of our conversation at tinabig nya twice ang kamay ko... Since they don't want to explain in written, gusto verbal e di e record ko!!! E kinuha nila lahat ng evidence sa amin eh!!!
*** They didn't charge our bill... Ganun na lang ba yon?!

After dinner, my colleagues & I went here for our nightcap. They had wine & margarita127863127864, while I ordered the Barcino frappe 128540 We also tried their desserts like the lava cake, creme brûlée & churros. We're happy with everything that we ordered. Too bad though that we're still very full from our dinner. Otherwise, we would have ordered some of their savory dishes, too. Maybe next time128522
Barcino is a nice place to hang out with friends. Ambience is cozy--not too formal nor too loud. Service is okay but can still be improved9757️This place offers wide selection of wine. You could also buy some neat ingredients for your pasta & other dishes here128077128522

Super cramped seating arrangement.
Why the hell is the restroom soooo wet? 128581

Loved their mushroom croquet 128525

Their ham&cheese croquet was good too; and their pork and chicken paella was surprisingly tasty as well. :)

Of course, their wine's great. But I enjoyed their sangria a bit more ;)

It was really nice catching up with my equally ocean lover surfer friends.
I like this branch of Barcino because it's intimate and not crowded.
Food is great and the red wine is just right to celebrate the vivacious Gemini celebrants
Cheers! 127863
