We got the pad Thai, squid salted egg, chicken green curry and honey pork bbq. Rating this place a 4 ONLY because of the pad Thai and I guess the squid. The curry was off the point and didn't sit well with the chicken while the pork was dry and wasn't flavorful. Their pad Thai was awesome. I must say that was the saving dish. I'm a fan of squid so their squid got me. Other than that, it was kinda pricey

I have eaten here a couple of times since opening because of its proximity to my home. Most times dishes were just okay, nothing great but decent Thai food offerings. Lackluster service everytime too. What irritates me most is for the past two months I have attempted to eat here for lunch and after getting off the car a waiter comes running out the door to proclaim they are already closed! Note that this has happened three times already at around 130pm. I find it too early to close for the afternoon! Parang allergic sa tao ang dating eh. So after the third try, no more for me.

Taste and serving size were both ok but I think the dishes are too expensive.

The very first thing you'll notice when you step inside the place is the smell. While most restaurants smell of food, Basil is like being jn the middle of a field of lemon grass. The ambience is natural. It has a small waterfall which flows into a pond. The wall is full of plants and ferns while the ceiling looks like a trellis of some sort.

The food is good also. The thai sisig is a must try. I love the crunch that goes well with the flavor. The pad thai was also good. The flavor seeps deep into noodles. The catfish salad had the perfect mix of sourness and acidity. I however found the flavor of the green curry chicken a bit strong for my palate but that was ok since I was never a fan of curry. Overall dining experience was very good.

Who wouldn't want to have a meal in a log cabin with a stream of water gushing down the adjacent wall? There may be some struggle on the crew-to-customer ratio but a reservation may alleviate the situation. AUTHENTIC Thai dishes on the menu, from entrees to mains and I did not go wrong experimenting on the menu options. Prawn dishes and the crispy fish special are easy choices, couple them maybe with some Pad Thai or Bagoong Rice. I will tell you the place is a bit pricey but if you order enough to satisfy, you will realize the experience may be well worth coming back to.

My friend J and I went to White Plains for a food trip and our first stop was Basil.

The place was quite dark and had a spa ambiance to it.

After a bit of thinking, we decided to go with the following dishes: Thai Money Bags (PHP325), Thai Sizzling Sisig (PHP350) and Thai Style Fried Noodles (PHP360). I also got a glass of Thai Milk Tea (which I forgot to take note of the price).

First served was my Thai Milk Tea and it was pretty good. It was more like a Thai Milk Tea Shake. It was not too sweet and it was a great way to battle the crazy summer heat.

Next served was the Thai Money Bag.

Serving size was pretty small for the price hence deflating the customers’ money bags. But the dish was pretty good. The crispy deep fried minced prawn and pork wrapped in thin spring roll pastry was a great way to start the meal. Though it was a bit hard to eat it given that you’ll be tempted to eat it sushi or sashimi style… in one go.

I was a bit iffy with the sizzling sisig because I have low tolerance for spicy food. But the sisig wasn’t spicy at all. It was good. Creamy with a bit of crunch, it was one addicting dish! After a spoonful, I craved for rice. But I resisted since we wanted to have at least three stops that day. Not really sure what “Thai spices” they used but it worked!

The pad thai was served last and it was your usual pad thai. After mixing everything together, the peanuts seem to have vanished. It would have been great if there were more peanuts for added texture.

Overall though, lunch was great! Service was a tad slow but since the place exudes a calming ambiance, we didn’t mind.

Enjoyed their Thai Iced Tea cocktail drink thingy 127865128077

But.. Their lettuce wrap wasn't as good as I expected it to be. 128531
Plus their service was a bit disappointing. Maybe it's because we're the last ones inside? But then again, they could've just asked us to leave or something. The waiter just put my utensils on my plate then asked me if I was done. 128530

Thai food is always nice. Curry is more like a soup which is pretty much like every place else in Asia. Taste is at par with all the other places I've tried. The location dictates its price, which incidentally is too much. Would rather go to muang Thai behind heart center.

Love Basil! It was my first time in the Katipunan branch, and I didn't know how pretty it was inside! Nicer decor than the Makati branch, maybe because of the indoor garden feel.

Anyway, the food was great, as usual! We ordered:
- Pomelo salad: refreshing! Though I've had better pomelo salad in other Thai Restos.
- Fish with three sauces: The sauce was so good, and the fish was crispy.
- Thai sisig: removed some of the peppers since it was so spicy. But other than that, it was yummy and crunchy!
- Bagoong rice: really flavorful!

The service was ok. I just found it weird that they didn't give back our P30 change. Of course, we would have left it as a tip. But they shouldn't ASSUME that small amounts should be left as tip, right? That's the customer's own choice.

Expensive, over-rated Thai food. I have to agree with a previous reviewer - I'd rather go to Muang Thai

First time to try it last Friday for our 11th anniversary. We thought we'd explore a new place - Basil was Chef Grace G's choice.

According to Chef Grace G, the tom yum lacks the essential ingredients of authentic tom yum such as galangal root, kafir leaves, and lemon grass. These ingredients give tom yum a rich, nuanced taste. Basil's version is basic and pedestrian at best. By the way, Grace G cooks a very good version of tom yum.

The pad thai was a confused dish - it tasted midway between pad Thai and char kway teow. It lacks the peanuty taste. Grace G cooks a very good pad Thai, it was one of the first dishes she shared with me.

All in all, a disappointing restaurant. There are better places that serve Thai food closer to the ones served in Bangkok. This is one place we will definitely not visit again.
