Once in a while, it's good to change things up a little. That's what happened when I suddenly decided to join my cousin for her 1-night stay in Cebu, and we ended up at Bayfront Hotel.

The hotel itself isn't anything majestic on the outside, but what it lacks in outside appearance it makes up for in its lobby, which is bright and modern. The same goes for its hallways which are somewhat dark, compared to its brighter and welcoming rooms. You can tell that the hotel is definitely going for a modern look, with dark two-tones as its color choice.

What I quite liked about the rooms was that the floor to ceiling space is very high, making it feel bigger and airier than usual. But this same trait made the space almost too big, especially when I noticed how un-proportioned the space was to the height of the guests.

For example, the closet space. The bar for hanging the clothes was way too high, considering I'm about 5'3. I had to tiptoe to get the hanger off of the bar. I know I'm not tall, but I'm not that short either, and I could imagine that a number of people would have the same difficulty as I in hanging their clothes.

Another thing, despite the height of the ceilings, alongside the doors and the closets, the knob of the room's door was suited to my height, making it odd that everything else is so high up. There was also a lamp that looked out of place as it felt too close to the floor as compared to everything else.

I would imagine though that there are many Western guests, who are quite tall, who would appreciate the height space. I noticed this feature after constantly watching HGTV, especially when they get under the showerhead. At the hotel, the overhead shower was very high up so I'm sure tall guests will fit.

Setting aside height issues, the important part of the room - the bed, more than made up for any height issues I had with the room. It was so soft and comfy, I had a hard time getting out of bed the next day! i loved how I sank into the bed, and well-rested I felt the next day.

Service-wise, the hotel was good. Staff at the concierge were very helpful and accommodating.

In terms of feature and benefits to the place, one I noticed immediately was the "sweat gym" located on our floor. It's free to use by guests, and all you need is an active key card to get in! Had I had more time, I would have loved to really try out the facilities (there's a treadmill, a stationary bike, some dumbells) rather than just testing it out for a few minutes.

Another thing that makes Bayfront so ideal for a lot of people, is its proximity to SM City Cebu, and the port, as well as its general overall affordability. Each hotel definitely has its own pros and cons, but when you weigh in what you're willing to spend, and the service you want to experience, there's always a few that have a lot of the marks checked out.
