Titled as one of the best thai restaurants in manila, i can say it's one of the best Only IN the city. Cuz it wasn't awesome but among the other competitions, this was surely better.

We ordered the green beef curry, chicken pandan leaves, shrimp cakes and chicken coconut soup!

Wow. So much chicken HAHHAHA

The green beef curry was too thin? I felt it should've been thicker!

CHICKEN PANDAN = omg so good

Shrimp cakes = iz good too! Tastes chinese

Chicken coconut soup was oks lang.

Mango sticky rice was amazing! Maasim lang sobra yung mango

We were staying at Dusit for the night and decided to try Benjarong as it was supposed to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. I reserved a table for two for 7pm. We arrived at exactly 7pm. We waited at the entrance for a bit as there was no one at the reception. Two waiters were attending other diners within line of sight of the entrance but no one bothered to call anyone to attend to us. After a while, someone came and ushered us to our table. A waitress handed us the menu and then left without a word. I was not impressed with the service. We ordered Thai Iced Tea, deep fried marinated pork for appetizer, green chicken curry and Phad Thai. These are what I would consider the "safe" dishes since these are our usual fare when dining in Thai restaurants. They are also marked as signature dishes so we had high expectations.

First off, the mains (green chicken curry and rice) were served before the appetizer. The curry was just ok. At first, I thought the serving was too small but we ended up eating only half of it. I can't say that it's better than what other restaurants like People's Palace serve. The deep fried marinated pork was disappointing. The meat was dry, tough and lacking in flavor. It actually looked like dry tocino. I like tocino better. The Phad Thai is just ok. I've tasted better. It was a bit more tart than I prefer. I didn't like that the lime has already been squeezed into the noodles. I am used to lime wedges being served on the side so I can squeeze as much or as little juice as I want. I also prefer firmer noodles. I liked the Iced Tea. I normally skip the Thai Iced Tea as they are usually too sweet. In this case, they served it unsweetened with syrup on the side. Bonus points in my book. So overall, it was just ok. I probably won't go back as I can get better overall experience elsewhere.

Picture credit to google since its a business meeting. (Na shy ako mag picture picture) hahha

Well no doubt that the place is really classy. From their walls, pillars, the interior design, tables, chairs, the plates and the people Soooo sosyal!

Its my first thai cuisine exp. so I'm really having a hard time to remember the name of those dishes. Will try my best!! Thanks to google!

We started with tom yum talay its thai red chicken curry with shrimps. This one is good its sour. Probably because of the tomato.

For salad we had yam nuea yang. Well I'm surprised! Coz I'm just familiar with the usual vegetable salad. This one is recommended. Its beef salad.

Curries will definitely on the list. We had kaeng khiew wan gung ( green curry) suppppppeeeerrr spicy! Will never eat this again. Hahaha I'm not a fan of spicy food. This one is not for me.

We also had moo yang nam tok. (Sweet and sour pork) this one i liked. Not too spicy. Also their pla sam rod (fried lapu lapu) highly recommended. My favorite! Also their phad thai! Ssssaaaarrraap!

One word that describe thai cuisine: flavorful! As in fresh and malasa talaga! Now I'm getting more excited to see Thailand.

Another review from me? I like to keep going back to restaurants I love and tend to try newer restaurants when hype has mellowed down- maybe I'm old fashioned like that 128515

I still ordered my usual favorites. Same great quality, same perfect ambiance & service.

Look at how my rice was served!

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my mom's and brother's birthdays last January (sorry late post 128522).

For appetizers, we ordered the Thord Man Pla (shrimp cakes) and Por Pia Savoey (Thai spring rolls). Both of them were very good...crispy and accompanied by this sweet and spicy plum sauce 128077

For the salad, we got the Yam Pla Duk Foo (crispy catfish salad) and the Yam Som O (pomelo salad with chicken and shrimp). I love the catfish salad with the julienned green mangoes...perfect blend of salty and sour. The pomelo salad was very refreshing and they did not scrimp on the shrimps too128522

Thai meal will not be complete without the Tom Yam Gung (hot and sour prawn soup) which I requested to be mild (since I cannot really take spicy food128513). Within a few minutes from being served the soup was drained...it's that good 128077 i wish they would have a bigger serving though 9786

We also got the Tom Som Pla (fish in tamarind soup) since the Tom Yum's serving is small. This soup is a little bit milky creamy, like sinigang but milky 128522 the fish they used for this is not cream dory 128079 i'm guessing it's maya-maya or lapu-lapu since its very meaty with no tinik 128077

For our main, we got the Pla Krapong Jean Nam Makham (deep fried lapu-lapu fillet in tamarind sauce), which was ok, nothing stand out 128528 and the Moo Sam Sham Tord Nam Pla (deep fried pork belly with fishsauce), which i found to be a little bit salty, too much fish sauce128532 Thankfully, to save our main course, we got the Pad Thai Gung which was as flavorful as the one we got in that hole in the wall place in BKK, and again, there were shrimps for everyone in this dish 128513

To cap off our night, we got the Khanom Tako (sweet water chestnut and coconut cream in pandan cup) and the Khao Niao Mamuang (ripe mango with sticky rice)...for the sticky rice, i wish there would be more of the coconut milk 128522

Burp!

I rarely ever enjoy lunch with clients. My tastebuds seem to just shut down and food tend to taste bland, even if they actually are flavorful. I couldn't help but feel bad when I learned that the Managing Partner was going to ditch me and I was going to have lunch today with prospective clients here, touted to be the best Thai restaurant in Manila which I have yet to try. Which also explains why I have no photo of my meal.

I ordered the crispy fried kangkong salad. This was recommended by the server when I asked for something light. I nearly fell off my seat when I saw this mountain of kangkong dipped in batter and deep fried coming my way. To be fair, it was light and crispy. It also had prawns, green mango, ground pork, cashew nuts, cilantro, and so many other ingredients I can't remember. I liked it altho I couldn't finish it, even with the help of my 2 male caucasian seatmates.

For dessert, I had the sweet water chestnut and coconut cream in a pandan cup. I initially didn't recognize this in the menu because usually the bottom layer is gelatin with sweet corn topped with coconut custard contained in a small square pandan cup. I must say that the water chestnut at the bottom was a pleasant surprise and offered some crunch to the otherwise smooth coconut cream.

I really would like to come back with family and friends and when I'm more relaxed. I suspect that the food actually tastes better than I remember.

Easily one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. Hard to go wrong here as ingredients are all fresh and service is so good. I would recommend the satay for starters, the duck salad after, and any seafood for the main course. Or you can just trust their signature dishes. You won't be disappointed.

Nice to know the place is still being run by the same Thai woman close to if not more than 10 years now.

Shucks! I love this hidden gem! 128142

I've stumble upon this on a couple of foodie's posts and one of Erwan's reviews when I was searching for a place to enjoy top quality Thai food.
There was a comment which said that a princess of Thailand awarded this resto for its authenticity. Is that even true?! 128561

But it sure does live up to the hype. I would recommend this place to the entire looloo population, if that's even possible!

In Thai cuisine, five flavors, namely, sweet, salty, sour, bitter and hot must be prominently balanced. I believe they strove to perfect that.

My dad ordered a Thai Iced Tea and I took a few sips. it had an unusual but lovely taste, heh? It tasted like it had milk? Is it milktea? Uhh who knows..128517 The food came very quickly and we started with a crunchy appetizer, the Miang Takhrai Krathong Thong. I liked it, neither too oily nor too overpowering.

Whoever thought that salads are plain disgusting or boring, they must try their Yam Sam O, it is a shrimp and pomelo salad (not like the usual one, promise!). The succulence of the shrimp just harmoniously dances with the bursts of citrus from the bits of pomelo. The tangy dressing rests on the bottom of the bowl made out of the pomelo fruit, but you could just scoop some for your salad #notaproblematall 128517

We had Tom Yam Gung and the Gaeng Tomjiw! Good for two persons each. The rich aroma of their soups is noteworthy on its own, wahhh. Everyone was swooning in every little bit (Exagg.), but it was seriously gone in a flash and we had to order an additional order of Tom Yam Gung!

For the mains, we decided to go with Thai classics.
The Phad Thai Gung, in my opinion, was just decent, it was well-fried, somewhat sweet and flavorful from the bursts of mixed spices and fresh herbs. Maybe I'm just not a big fan of noodles.

The Gaeng Ped Yang Sam Ros (complicated names 128563) is simply roasted duck in sweet and sour red curry. I hate that this dish comes in a small serving because I could just easily slurp its strongly spiced sauce like soup, shamelessly, I actually did that. 128586 The roast duck was tasty and tender. It has everything you can ask for128525 Best paired with steaming jasmine rice #nobrainer. Btw, notice how they present their rice! 128514

The foreign manager recommended a dish called Gaeng Ped Ped Yan, it was like ground chicken, onions and tomatoes stir fried in a special sauce. It tasted almost Chinese, which is not a bad thing.

Always refreshing to end your meal with deserts.
The Kap Niew Mamuang is a coconut glazed sticky rice and some ripe mangoes on the side. Yum! Party in my mouth! 127882127881127878

The Tab Tim Krob and the Lord Chong Nam Kati were nothing spectacular, you could skip these two!

A delightful Thai dining experience=Authentic food + Excellent Value+ Polite staffs and manager + Good ambience

P.S. Use Metrobank card for 15% discount! Definitely going back soon!

P.P.S If you haven't dine here, it is time to do so, or else, I would fuss you until you go try it. 128520
