We usually get our favorites at the store outside mall... Near luisita mall.

Their native delicacies(kakanins) are the best and affordable. One of the best Kapampangan pasalubongs.

A visit to my hometown is never complete without getting some "kakanin" from Betty's. This time, my mom got us some Sapin-sapin, aside from our favorite "Duman" or Black Rice Cake.

It was my first time to try their Sapin-Sapin and I absolutely loved it! It's made of three layers of rice cake, each with a different flavor and color. I love the vibrant colors of this kakanin : yellow-white-violet! The violet part is ube flavored, the white part is plain coconut milk and the yellow one has hint of jack fruit. Perfect representation of Filipino favorites!

Forgot the name of the kakanin. But it's a long white roll with latik in the middle. Taste is like sapin sapin. 128077

Another local delicacy from Betty's - this time a crowd pleaser - Maja Blanca!

I know for sure that people have been praising Susie's version, which I haven't tried yet. But this one from Betty's is definitely good. It was my first time to try it out. I've grown up eating my Granny's own recipe so I kinda have standards of my own.

It was soft but can firmly stand on it's own. You can taste the rich flavor of coconut milk and I liked that it had a topping that was almost creamy. Almost melt in your mouth goodness - it also had hints of corn. But I was looking for a stronger corn flavor and some corn bits. Not sure if Maja Blanca is the same sa Tibok Tibok but I definitely like my Granny's version more. Then this could have been a 5 star review if it had latik on top. 128521

Before there was Susie's, there was Betty's - at least in Tarlac. They started as a small store in the public market. But because they did really well in making native cakes, taste and quality wise, they stood out among competition and grew into a business that became well known even in neighboring provinces.

My favorite among their selection is the one focused in the picture. Locally, we call that "Duman" which is black sticky rice topped with this sweet mixture made out of coconut milk and has strands of coconut as well. Parts of it were burnt but didn't affect the taste and even contributed to the overall uniqueness of this native cake. The combo sure hits the spot! It can be too sweet if you've had a lot but I don't really get to eat this often so I don't mind.

Then their Cassava Cake. This one is not a favorite of mine. Maybe because it's too sweet and I don't like the texture too much. But the topping was good. Rich in coconut milk taste.

They have a lot of local desserts available and I'll make sure to try most while I'm still here in Tarlac 128518
