We don't really go to Eastwood, and prior to going there I checked zomato for a list of restaurants we can try around the place. Upon arriving, this was the first restaurant we saw, so we just went in. We ordered their chicken fried steak, baked chicken and an extra side of mac and cheese. Well, I think the chicken fried steak wasn't bad, but the chicken and the rice that came with it were both tough and hard to chew. The mac and cheese was just okay. I think we made a mistake with our orders, but I don't think I enjoyed anything from this restaurant.

Big D's Smokehouse! Finally! When I was about to do a review, I noticed that I added it to my must try list! Heard many good news about this restaurant so here's my take.

Happened to crave for ribs around midnight so while on the road, Mama, Tatay and I headed to Eastwood for a late late dinner. We were looking for a place to eat at and by chance we stumbled upon Big D's. Some other restaurants were already closinb but luckily they're still open until around 2 in the morning.

Surprised to see that they offer food at reasonable, if not cheap, prices. Ordered the Ribs Platter, Corn Chowder and I forgot what those balls were. I can't remember if they're chicken or potatoes. 128514 (Sorry this is so overdue, this was months ago!)

I was so happy I got to try their ribs! Very soft bones and tender meat! Plus they're pretty fast in service. The place kinda looks like a small pub. They offer beers too so people after late night work flock here to kill time or wait for traffic to end first before going home.

Two thumbs up for Big D's Smokehouse!

I've heard so much of this place, and I was so eager to have a taste of what they have to offer. Ordered a full slab of ribs and a fish and chips. The sauce of the ribs made it taste good but without it it's a total thumbs down. I was expecting for it to be tender but it wasn't and it was dry. The batter of the fish was too thick making it raw inside, I had to ask their waiter to have it cooked again.

I had high hopes but sadly, their ribs failed for me. The meat was overcooked, hence it was dry and juiceless. Flavor was just ok. Portion could've beeb better for the price. Casa Verde's Bryan's ribs will beat the sh*t out of their ribs 128514

Their country fried chicken was a little better than their ribs. Contradicting given they are supposed to be a smokehouse. Nothing really special so I gave them 3 stars.

My uncle couldn’t stop raving about this ribs place in Eastwood and told us that he’ll treat us there on his birthday. Confident about his choice, he scheduled the last Sunday of the Christmas break to be his birthday celebration at... Big D’s Smokehouse.

Hello, Big D’s Smokehouse.

We arrived a bit too early in Eastwood and ended up waiting for 20 minutes for the restaurant to open. While waiting, some of us decided to have some halo-halo at Razon’s (which is another entry).

I was a bit hesitant to dine there as the place didn’t exactly get a lot of good reviews online. Some said that the ribs were dry while others were disappointed with every single dish they ordered. But it’s free so…

My uncle wanted to order The Big Feast which includes a nacho plate, two servings of onion rings, 2 pasta of your choice, 2 orders of chicken fingers, 3 slabs of ribs, 4 side dishes, 5 cups of rice and a sizzling plate of pulled pork for PHP2,999. I did the math and if you choose all the most expensive pasta and sides, you manage to save about PHP200 or have that sizzling pulled pork for free. (I guess it wasn’t that bad if you do not want to think of what to order anymore.) We also ordered a plate of Hush Puppies (PHP175) as additional appetizer.

First served was the platter of nachos and it looks so oily. The tortilla chips were thin and crisp which I enjoyed. But I would have liked it more if the beef topping was juicy. The one we got was dry and the cheese wasn’t as creamy or gooey as I wanted it to be.

Onion rings were served next and it’s your usual crisp onion rings with garlic ranch dip. Nothing much to talk about.

Hush Puppies soon followed and it was a crowd favorite. The combination of cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan cheese created a delightful and crisp cheese ball! It also had the right level of tart. But what I loved most about this dish is that every bite is promised with an ooze of the heavenly cheese combination. The smooth and creamy melted cheese with the crunchy batter was divine. I also enjoyed it with the garlic ranch dip.

The chicken fingers (PHP190) looked so… thin. Taste-wise, it was a bit bland and dry. We had to put a generous amount of honey mustard for it to be more palatable. At least it was crisp.

For pasta, we opted to get Chicken Pesto Pasta (PHP210) and Tomato Cream Pasta (PHP180).

When the plates were served, the first thing that came to mind was that it looked pale. And true enough, both dishes failed in the plating and taste departments. Both lack taste despite the fairly generous amount of sauce. In fact, the pesto pasta was very wet with its sauce. But the sauces did not deliver the flavor it was meant to give the diners. I was very disappointed with these two.

Soon, the sides and full slab ribs arrived.

The sides’ serving size is very small though reasonable given its price range of PHP50-60. It was nothing out of the ordinary.

The mac and cheese was indeed cheesy but it was the watered-down type of sauce instead of thick and creamy. (I noticed that it’s hard to find a restaurant that serves good mac and cheese here in Manila.)

The mashed potato was average too. Mushy and topped with gravy, it’s hard to mess that one.

I wasn’t able to try the coleslaw but they finished it so I guess it was okay too.

The full slab ribs are about a foot long and it was smothered with sweet and mildly spicy ribs sauce. The meat was very tender and it was effortless to cut the ribs.

It was a good slab of ribs but the sauce was a bit too overpowering as I was eating it without rice and just a few spoonfuls of mashed potatoes. I guess it would have been more delightful with a cup of rice. But it’s the start of 2016 so I still have the “New Year, New Me” mentality which I know I’ll eventually forget in a couple of days (or hours if I spot an ice cream store).

Last served was the sizzling pulled pork (PHP175) and it tasted just like the ribs only it was shredded and placed in a sizzling plate. Again, it was good but the taste was a bit too overwhelming to be eaten alone.

Overall, it was a good meal. The sides and pasta were forgettable but the ribs were pretty good and reasonably priced. I’d order it again with rice on the side.

(Woohoo! 200th review! 127881127881127881)

My first time here was in their first original branch in Katipunan and suddenly moved in Tomas Morato which is decent compared to their first branch but it's tucked inside the building I just forgot what building is that.

Out of curiousity, we tried their Monster Tacos which is one of their best seller next to ribs, I can say it was really huge yet the taco shell wasn't made of Corn Tortillas but it was made of flour or something like that, it tasted good though yet it was a Filipino style Tacos. Their Ribs was just okay, kinda small in size or servings and their sauce was sweet.

Our 2nd time here is in Tomas Morato with our friends. We ordered again the Ribs but still we prefer for Rub for that. Monster Tacos was disappointing compared before. It was loaded of shredded lettuce and we couldn't taste or feel anymore the cheese, salsa even our add ons which is beef. Hush Puppies was good with lots of gooey cheese in it. Dirty Fries was also good, loaded of pulled pork and cheese. Southern Chicken Salad was okay but lacks of dressing.

Overall, the taste was just an average for me. Price was kinda expensive for that kind of quality of food and servings.

Big Joke is more like it. Mas masarap pa yung pork chop sa pader ng Intramuros. You'd think that the serving would be huge, but when my order came, 2 small pork chops, same size when you eat in a carinderia.

While waiting for some friends, I stumbled upon this place. Got super hungry after seeing ribs served to a customer who was sitting outside. So I dragged my friends here for dinner and ordered their full slab smoked soft bone ribs paired with garlic rice, and tomato cream pasta.

The ribs were yummy and indeed had soft bone that you can eat!haha..128516 It just had the right bbq flavor and it's delicious even without the gravy or sauce. The pasta was also good but lacks the tomatoey taste.

Loved the cowboyish feel of the place, prices are easy on the pocket, and staff were friendly too. Will go back to try their other dishes that looks interesting! 128521

Cheap and delicious ribs. If that does not convince you I don't know what will? A bacon I guess?

This is something I would recommend to you guys. Sulit! Full slab ribs is affordable and delicious. What's different about it is that they don't literally have ribs, only soft bones. 128525

Had their house ribs, nachos and buffalo wings. All are ok, though the taste are not exceptional. Value for money so-so for their neighbors. The interiors and the music are 128076 for my taste - rock and reggae!

This is one restaurant you shouldn't really miss! If you're a lover of slow cooked ribs, this is an affordable place to go to!

I've ben here countless times and I always get the Ribs as my main course because it's just that delicious! The bone is so soft sometimes you think you're eating meat. Hehe!

their pulled pork platter is also a must-try! And If you're a taco lover, they have a monster taco (a full 9-inch) to satisfy our cravings!

If Racks is gonna be too expensive on a given night, Big D's is the best option to take that's worth your money!
