I was pleasantly surprised by Cabalen's Regular buffet for 300pesos. With the recent renovation came with a fresh new look, and food presentation was above average. I enjoyed the pritchon. They refilled the pritchon station immediately once they see the meat running low. The kare kare was also delicious - meat was soft and generous.

Thanks to Midz S for extending the invite to team kaladkarin, this branch just opened after its renovation at Alabang Town Center. With this re-opening, they have a new section at their buffet that’s really LIT!

Before we go there, we’ve already known Cabalen for sometime already and you might have your personal favorites when it comes to filipino restaurants. But Cabalen’s proposition is as LIT as their food is: Cabalen serves the standard filipino dishes— the way it should be done. So if you like to have an idea of how filipino dishes should taste, head over at Cabalen. (Cause other restos are already too customized)

128204128525 Kare kare is one of their best dish and it’s a main stay.
128204128525 Beef Mechado’s very tomato taste and tender meat is so LIT
128204128525 Pritchon is a shortened form of pritong lechon.
128204 Sisig of ALL types— chicken, pork, tuna, and tofu!
128204pansit puti - glass noodles that’s really tasty w/out meat (for vegetarian)
128204128525 pritchon wrap - here’s something new, it’s like a peking duck wrap with matching hoisin sauce 128523

128204128525Guinomis - try this! Do you know this dessert is served with coconut milk and not just evap milk?
128204128525Tibok-tibok - a good filipino dessert That’s texture is similar to maja blanca but the taste is pure goat’s milk! A must try as well, and the first that usually rans out of stock.

128204 mango shake could be debatable, depends on how ripe the fruit is.

Put Cabalen in your to dine in places and reset your taste buds, check how filipino dish should taste like.

A 3 star rating only because of the Crispy kangkong! That's it and nothing else. Other dishes tasted fine but for me, they are nothing special. My mom cooks great Filipino food that's why I feel like it is not necessary for me to eat at Filipino restaurants. I just went here because my mom insisted. Desserts are okay. (Halo halo and some kakanin)

Beware of the drinks. They serve water and iced tea. I saw people come and go at the drink station. I thought it was part of the 299 something per head fee. To my surprise, no it isn't, and nobody even clarified that to me. So for additional 60 pesos per head, I accidentally availed of the unlimited drinks. I only consumed 1 glass!!! Whereas other buffet restaurants offer at least 3 kinds of drink, theirs, I have no idea why, consisted only of water and iced tea. Btw, when the bill comes, please note that there is additional vat.

Service is bad too. Waiters and waitresses are hard to find. They seem to be hiding at the staff area and come outside only as needed. The place is not full. One would expect better service right?

Might not go back unless dragged by someone else.

It was one of those days when we have no idea what we wanted to eat and we ended up choosing the wrong place.

Maverick Christopher P and I were just walking around Town and noticed that Cabalen’s buffet rate was P298! I was like “OMG, that’s not a bad deal considering you can practically eat everything you want.” but booooy was I so wrong. 128530

The food choices were limited and the food was horrible. Their Bulalo only had cabbage and beef broth, yet it was labeled Bulalo. What a rip-off. Their Kare-Kare was more sauce than anything else. Their Baked Mussels were over-seasoned with spices it was practically impossible to eat. Their Paella’s consistency was close to Lugaw than an actual Paella. They were too stingy to have their Bangus de-boned. Heck the only think I enjoyed there was their Fried KangKong! The dessert table seemed okay, lots of options but it’s not really my thing.

The crew's not as accommodating as other buffets. And the seating was pretty uncomfortable.

Word of advice, do NOT be fooled by the photos and the sign. You’re not getting your money’s worth at this place. Might as well spend your money for something better at the Food Court.

We first tried Cabalen in Festival Mall. It was just ok. The variety of food is very limited. I only liked the fried kangkong covered with tempura batter I think and the kuhol.

Cabalen is a Pampanga-style restaurant. Although the food and the atmosphere was good, it wasn't special enough. It's an eat-all-you-can restaurant so I was assuming that the food was all excellent.

The only thing that probably saved it was tge dessert bar. It has a make your own halo-halo portion. Even though I am not a pro at makin halo-halo, the one I made was surprisingly delicious! Kudos to me! 128077 The only drawback was that it was too crowded and there was nit enough space to accommodate the long lines of the buffet. As an Architecture student, I was pretty disappointed. 128533 Also, not all of the staff were as warm as I hoped they would be. Hey, it is a Filipino restaurant after all.
