Well, who would have thought that in a sea of clothing stalls at Tiendesita's "tiangge" section can you find a cozy cafe at the corner?

To be frank, it was my first time at Tiendesitas, although I usually pass this by whenever I commute to and from Metro Manila. My sister used to go to Tiendesitas a lot in the past, but it was first time too to go there again after a long while. She remarked to me that a lot of changes has happened in Tiendesitas since she last visited it. She was a bit disappointed to learn that it has become some sort of a mall.

Too bad I didn't get to see the old Tiendesitas. As of this writing, this place still seems to be under renovation.

My sister and I went to the Pasig/Mandaluyong area last Sunday night on an impulse, because we wanted to check out the tunnel of dancing Christmas lights on the street near Tiendesitas (and we were not disappointed, yay!).

Since biglaang lakad, nakapambahay lang kami! Hahaha. :))

We were strolling at Tiendesita's tiangge area on the second floor and there we found Cafe Avelino (or more correctly, "Cafe Avelino's").

As our trip was unplanned, I was a bit short of cash. Still, that didn't stop us from checking Cafe Avelino's out. It is an "open" establishment, which means it doesn't have a main entrance. It is so open that you'd mistake it as a furniture section if you don't look up at the cafe's signage. Hahaha. Just go there inside and that's it. It is beside Potato Corner.

We decided to have just desserts and coffee (as I have said, I was short of cash. Who knew we would go to Crossing, anyway?):

◆ Cafe Mocha - ₱80
◆ Cappuccino - ₱80
◆ Chocolate Brazo de Mercedes - ₱60
◆ Mango Cheesecake - ₱150

The food was generally good, although I found the Mango Cheesecake too sweet for me. And for the price, the slice was rather small. I thought that the thick graham cracker crust (which I really liked) would offset the sweetness of the caramelized mangoes. But still, the mangoes were way too cloying.

I am not a fan of brazo de mercedes, but I liked Cafe Avelino's take on this, thanks to its incorporation of chocolate. It was also not too sweet, as well. I even found myself liking this a lot more than the mango cheesecake.

I loved the interiors (I took a particular fancy at the colored lights above the counter) and the chill ambiance despite its proximity to the tiangge.

Cafe Avelino's also offers sandwiches, pasta dishes and even more substantial meals like sinigang.

The staff was nice and friendly, too.

This is a great place to cool your heels, relax and have decent meals and coffee after a tiring bout of shopping around Tiendesitas.

If you want to try some coffee other than main stream coffee shop then head to Cafè Avelino.

The place is located on the 2nd floor of Tiendesitas where all the shops are outside. The place is quite small and can fit less than 50 people. It was not as relaxing as other coffee shops but you can watch the movies they play on their TV.

I got a large Iced Flavored Latte (P130) and Sansrival (P120) on the side. I liked the coffee, it was not sweet yet you can still taste the coffee. The sansrival was just good, but not as good as Mary Grace's.

So, if you want something cheap and a place to sit after your shop, then go visit Cafè Avelinos.

I want to start this with KUDOS! There's only one person manning this little shop. He took care of everything. I was waiting for my friends so I decided to sit down and have a slice of cake. Among all the displays, their Kitkat Cake was tge most enticing.

Chocolate Cake with KitKat and Maltesers. The cake itself was okay. I would have loved it if it was moist. It's good that the cake's sweetness was light because it the cake is complemented with kitkat and maltesers.

Service was okay, although serving time may take some time. Went for a slice of their Choco Yema cake, which was too sweet for my liking. My friend went for lasagna. I'm surprised it came in a small serving, considering it took them forever to just reheat it. Greenwich's is way, way better and more sulit for its price.

While waiting for our dogs, I tried Cafe Avelino. So I asked for their best seller and the waiter recommended their All Meat Pasta (P180).

To cut the long story short - The pasta I ordered wasn't good. I could barely taste the sauce. To be fair, I'd probably go back there to give them a second chance and try their other food. But that's not going to happen very soon.

Ordered White Rabbit (P120), Raspberry Smoothie (P90) and Angus Burger (P180). Raspberry was too rich and sweet. White Rabbit was alright. The Angus Burger was surprisingly yummy. Place had comfortable seats and free wifi. Price wasn't bad at all. Overall, pretty average place to dine. Fellow LooLoo members seem to agree based on the reviews.

I'm sorry but this is not red velvet, this is a slice of red cake with whipped cream and choco syrup. Huhuhu.
But nice presentation though. 128584128585128586

Finally, Cafe Avelino is now here at looloo. Thanks, looloo! That was fast! 128077

Last week, my Mom & I went "tiangge shopping" at Tiendesitas. Walk here, walk there. Buy this, buy that. We've been doing that for an hour so we decided to sit down and have a drink. We saw this small cafe beside Famous Belgian Waffle, so we gave it a try!

I was not hungry so I ordered Butterfinger (or Butterscotch? I forgot) coffee. 22oz is only P120! Mura diba? 128077 My mom ordered a pasta. I forgot what it is pero it's a red pasta.

My coffee is okay. Tastes different and the flavor is new to me. I might try it again but maybe with an extra shot? Hihi. I think it's too sweet for my liking. 9786

I had a little of mom's pasta. I don't know what to say about it since I'm not a pasta person. It has meatballs and it's sour. 1280699786

Staffs are friendly. They also sell cakes and bottled drinks like Snapple and more. And oh I forgot, a smoking area. 9786

I wanna come back and discover more of their specialties. 128523
