Our family and my sister's fiancée's family had our Christmas Eve dinner at Cafe Ilang Ilang this year. To be honest, I am not really a big fan of buffet restaurants, as I feel like it doesn't really have good value for money... But I was wiling to give this a try as my sister had been raving about Manila Hotel's buffet restaurant for quite a while.

It was not a surprise when we walked into a restaurant full of hungry people celebrating with their families and friends, enjoying the bountiful food choices in the hall. As I went around, I easily understood why people kept coming back to this place.

FOOD 1108811088110881108811088
There is indeed a wide selection of food here. The stations are scattered around the area, which makes first timers like me confused and lost... However, once you get to taste the food, it's all worth it! 128525 Unlike most commercial buffet restaurants in the Metro, the quality of the food is top-notch. I loved their Japanese station, which features a lot of different rolls, sashimi, and other Japanese favorites. 127843127844 I also enjoyed the Chinese station, because come on, who doesn't love Chinese food? These dishes probably came from Red Jade (formerly Mabuhay Palace). The carving station had a couple of options to choose from too, including lamb chops -- I am not a fan though! 128547 There is also a seafood station where you can have your prawns, crabs, and other seafoods cooked. Other stations consist of Italian, Korean, Filipino, among others. I also admired this restaurant's inclusiveness, as it has an area for Halal food. Awesome, right? And of course, as there is always room for dessert, the have this huge area for desserts! It houses various sweet treats, such as: fresh fruits, mousses and tarts, cakes, Filipino favorites like halo-halo and kakanin, and their gelato station! 128525 I had Biscotini and Strawberry Yogurt. YUMMY!

SERVICE 1108811088110881108811088
The service was great! Despite the influx of people, and their busyness due to the season, they were all smiles as they served food, bussed out plates, refilled our water, and assist the guests in any way they can. Two thumbs up for the staff of Cafe Ilang Ilang! 128077128077

AMBIANCE 11088110881108811088
Cafe Ilang Ilang is fully carpeted, and has a homey feel to it. The scattered stations make it less overwhelming for the diners, as they can visit one station at a time. There are plenty of long tables, perfect for big gatherings.

What a great way to celebrate Christmas Eve! Now I understand why people love to visit this buffet restaurant for all types of occasions. The vast selection of food from all over the world, warm and genuine smiles from the staff, and the warm ambiance makes it one of the best hotel buffets I've visited to date. 128156

We have always been fans of Cafe Ilang Ilang and have celebrated many occasions here.

Food-wise, highlight is always the amazing and expansive Japanese selection and the meat from the grilling station.

The ambiance is also one of the reasons we keep coming back here. The tables are laid out nice that even if it's crowded, you don't feel it. There's also an old world charm to it that's not in the more modern hotel buffets. The staff are attentive and caring. 10084

It will remain one of our favorite hotel buffets in the metro!

P.S. Please bring back the mango sago dessert! 128516

It was a birthday celebration far far away from where I stay. Good thing it wasn’t traffic on a Monday night. In my mind it was a restaurant with old interiors/ambiance to match the hotel. I was surprised how modern and elegant it was.

Cafe Cafe Ilang features different cuisines separated in stations. It was weird though that they only a few Filipino dishes. It was seemingly patterned with Spirals. Their regular price for buffet is Php 2450. We had a BDO promotion at 40% discount. At full price it was still worth it.

Am rating them 4.5 relative to other buffets. For one, I rated them high for selections they have that I haven’t seen or normally not offered by others. They have wild boar, lamb, premium coffee (5 kinds to choose from) and Italian Gelato (8 kinds! Can you believe it? Must have is the Ferrero). I was also impressed with their own brick oven pizza. They make it fresh in front of you.

In a large selection like they have, surely there are hits and misses. On random sampling, I like most what I had. The best was their Lamb Curry. It was so tender and spiced really well. It was the only dish I came back for another serving.

Another reason for a 4.5 was their hands on, personalized service. The wait staff build rapport well with the rest of us. Friendly with respect too.

- the best pizza (and the italian section is the nicest too!)
- i liked their Indian selection
- but of course the roast beef
- chocolates!!
- yoghurt
- sadly, the least appetizing was the Japanese section coz its area is not so nice too :(
- shrimp size (to be cooked your way) doesn't disappoint
- very little cheese choices but all were very good with crackers, coated walnut, grapes and honey! Lovely combination. Perfect for palate reset

Not sure why but in every buffet, its always the Chinese section that I skip :))

Back when I was still in high school, I don’t think Café Ilang-Ilang was ever popular. I remember the place looking simple with its white walls and ceramic tables. The buffet had a simple round catering set-up right in the middle of the café. But after the renovation, it transformed like it was Cinderella. The place is now equipped with modern designs and fancy carpets. Different cuisines were divided into their designated stations while tables and chairs were set up to maximize the area. Manila Hotel is definitely stepping up their game!

Today's stop: C A F E   I L A N G - I L A N G

FOOD 11088110881108811088
As any buffet hotel set-up, Café Ilang-Ilang has several stations. Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Korean, Seafood, Rotisserie, Salad and Dessert to name a few.

JAPANESE 🇯🇵
The Japanese section is always a good place to start even though their choices are limited. Sushi, Maki, Tempura, Soba, Chahan, Vegetable and Shrimp teppan are all that there is if I’m not mistaken. Nonetheless, it’s of good quality so I wouldn’t skip it.

CHINESE 🇨🇳
With Chinese, I always have to start with dimsum. The popular picks such as siomai, hakaw, and chicken feet are always available. They usually have fried rice, sweet and sour pork, beef broccoli and pecking duck. Food is great but not something you would not find in a typical Chinese restaurant.

KOREAN 🇰🇷
I am a sucker for anything kimchi and bulgogi. I love how they have the staple ingredients that allows me to whip up my own version of bibimbap. Plus, if you’re into very spicy food, I recommend digging into their fresh kimchi and kimchi jjigae. Fiery! 128293

ITALIAN 🇮🇹
Great selections of thin-crust + generous toppings of pizza. Yummy! They might not have the widest selection of cold cuts like spiral has, but I find their cheeses and cured meats good. Have a specific pasta choice in mind? Go ahead and ask the Italian chef!

SEAFOOD 127754
Prawns, crabs, mussels and lobsters are some of the seafood offered. Feel free to customize the flavors according to your preference. The typical are garlic butter, sweet and spicy and steamed. I do need to comment that their seafood dishes are quite bland and easily overcooked.

ROTISSERIE 128046
A must for meat lovers. Prime ribs, roast beef, lamb chops, baby back ribs? Take your pick.

INDIAN
Not a fan of Indian dishes but I think they have a great selection. Plus it's halal 128077🏻

SALAD 127807
Pre-mixed salads are available in big bowls for people who prefer to just dig in like me. But of course, individual fresh ingredients are also accessible to customize your own.

DESSERT 127854
Dessert may come last most of the time but it’s definitely not the least. Café ilang-ilang has a wide range of dessert choices from their gelato to the cakes and macarons and bread pudding and Filipino delicacies. Looove their gelato 128149 It’s light, creamy and flavorful. Another recommendation would be their rich and flavorful cakes and bread pudding. They used to serve mango coconut pudding but discontinued it for some reason. I do hope they bring it back since it’s such a nice light dessert to finish off the meal.

LOCATION 11088110881108811088
Some people find the design of the location of the stations similar to a maze since they are quite far from one another. But truth be told, I don't mind. I actually like walking around between plates so that I don't get full easily.

VALUE FOR MONEY 11088110881108811088
It costs approximately P2,500 per person here. Abang abang sa deal grocer to get up to 30% off! Sulit naman since they offer a wide range of selections 128077🏻

SERVICE 1108811088110881108811088
Service, as usual, was great. Staff and chefs were very accommodating and friendly to their guests. Staff are very attentive to refil any empty glasses and change plates. I remembered we asked for several refils for our tea and they were very kind to do so. They even added a new tea bag voluntarily for us 128077🏻

Overall, it was a great visit, as always.

#latepost

I love waking up to the anticipation of enjoying a great breakfast. It's my favorite meal of the day!

This was how I started my Sunday, eagerly anticipating the buffet breakfast spread downstairs. I honestly can't remember Cafe Ilang-Ilang from my previous visits. I saw the awards that were displayed on the table by the entrance. It raised my expectations a bit.

We were ushered inside and the place was like a maze. They had different stations set-up all over but they didn't have a main buffet spread. They had food from different cuisines laid out including Korean, Continental, Chinese, and Filipino. I concentrated on continental and Filipino favorites as usual. My breakfast consisted of tapa, tocino, sausage, pancakes, and taho. Of course, bacon--but theirs was so oily and not as crispy as you would want. I was also able to try the ube ensaymada, which was pretty good. Lots of fruits and yogurt available for the health conscious too. Different kinds of cereal were for kids or kids at heart. Another pro was that the staff were so nice and attentive, very focused on providing good service.

However, the layout of the dining area was spread out and very confusing. The drinks were located in front, in a haphazard area, which didn't make sense to me. We couldn't find the egg station immediately, so we ended up foregoing our usual omelet. I also overheard people having difficulty finding their tables. Someone actually sat on my seat, thinking it was his table.

Our table was located at a dimly lit area with worn yellow seats--it had a slightly morose quality to it. There were tables by the windows that looked more inviting. Though there were a lot of options, Spiral has even more choices. The latter also has a better and brighter layout with a very elegant look. The buffet becomes a focal point in itself, located near the famous staircase. There was none of that grandeur at Cafe Ilang-Ilang. Somehow, I also feel like all the seats of Spiral are equally comfortable all around All guests feel welcome and there are no "prime" seats at Spiral. Though you don't associate dessert with breakfast, Spiral offers sweets during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus, Spiral has a real kuya taho going around the tables offering this Filipino favorite to the guests. Lastly, let me say these two words: CHEESE ROOM. Mic drop!128077 All these things make Cafe Ilang-Ilang a distant runner up to the top buffet in the country.

But, there is no way to feel stiffed at the wide array of choices that Cafe Ilang-Ilang has to offer.

Was able to catch the pepita's buffet! Noticed the flavors for Pepita's spread were toned down here including the Lechon, but none the less, it was divine! We enjoyed the ilang-ilang selections and the fact that it's not too crowded like Spiral. Developed a new found love for
Ilang-ilang again.

Had a random late lunch here, and I was pretty pleased with the food. No idea if it was value for money since my parents paid and didn't show me the bill, but there were lots of food stations to choose from naman!

I liked Cafe Ilang-ilang because the tables were all very spacious and it was easy to maneuver yourself in and out from your seat cuz there were no obstructions. Also their lighting for taking photos was amazing despite it looking very dark. Hahaha I was really surprised with that :))

I didn't like though how far some food stations were from each other! I had to look very hard to find the Japanese station. 128514 The food was very good naman though so yay for a good lunch! 🤗

I'm gonna start off by saying I love Café Ilang Ilang. It is not to be overlooked as it can be compared to Spiral and Circles nonetheless! Their steak is okay, but loses to Circles', but delicious and savory!

I love their sushi area as well. I enjoy most of their creations. Their food offerings arent redundant as sometimes they don't have the scallops (you should catch that!!!). Their desserts are great as well. Lovely!!!

They have really good gourmet chocolates, be sure to try them, as well as their panna cottas. Just thinking about the desserts make my heart flutter!

Service is impeccable. Pricing is definitely right. The interiors are very beautiful especially where we were seated.

This photo sucks. I can't ever get a good photo of my food in Cafe Ilang-ilang. I mean not enticing for me to look at it on my phone and say I want to go back. I do want to go back because last Sunday's lunch was amazing!!! My family ate there and we all agreed that the food was top-notch that day. We usually eat here after hearing mass in San Beda, or hosting balikbayans who are housed near here or after Visita Iglesia. My cousins and I were seated together were talking about our food, it was different than usual that day. This applied to both the array and the quality.

My choices of food came from the breakfast section - chicken sausage, a small waffle, a piece of bacon. I also has some cold appetizers and bread. That mini pretzel is the bomb! It is warm and soft and has the right amount of salt on top, no need for butter.

My faaaaavorite section is the Halal one. Why? It's a free for all!!!! They had a wide array of their "dips" tzatziki, hummus (the others I don't know) but a few more. The roti was warm and soft on the inside. They also had four other dishes. On my plate, I put three huge servings of the chicken tikka masala and that chicken was so tender!!! It was tender, can I say that again, it was tender and melt in your mouth yummy. I got a heaping of rice and some onions and piled on some yogurt and I raved about it. I got a samosa also, which I felt was so-so. As much as I raved about it, my family doesn't like Mediterranean food, so no go. Sakin lang bumenta.

There are Korean, Chinese and Japanese sections but i stayed away from those since i've been eating their cuisines during the week. The Italian section also looked beefed up, not literally but better than their usual pasta and savory items. Event the pizza looked yummy, there were several kinds.

We all loved that Thai Milk tea was in their juice bar!!! ALL of us got at least a glass, Ok at least half a glass. Orange and Mango were the two other juice options.

Blockbuster yung meat section and I didn't want to really wait in line - but they had lamb, racks and racks of it and I didn't wait. They had sausages and ribs and you could have it cooked to your liking. No, I didn't wait in line. :( Huhuhu.

Nothing beats capping off a meal with desserts. I heard anything chocolate at the dessert station was yummy and indulgent but I stayed away from the chocolate. I did like the Coffee panna cotta, i also had several mini scoops of ice cream. Made the mistake of putting them all together and not appreciating each flavor. I had a creme brulee and a chocolate tart which I found OK.

This was a great experience! We had our usual servers attend to us, and they accommodated our big group. We originally reserved for a group of 24 but ballooned to 30 since my grandparents came with their entourage. Great way to spend Sunday with family!!

Buffet!!! Woohooo, my angry tummy roars! Haha. I almost tried everything. Haha. My personal favorite: Lobster, cold cuts, Ice cream and Macaroons 128525128536128525. What I love about luxury buffet is that they serve their food hot. Not unlike most of the commercialized buffet in the metro.
