Sponsored Dinner at Café Lupe.

I've heard of them before,  they used to have a branch in my city.  And i didn't know that they have a branch in Antipolo.   Not sure what came out first - Makati or Antipolo.

Café Lupe is a restaurant x hostel.   The location is traveller-friendly,  the structure is hard to miss.  It is a two storey structure that resembles a garden x villa from afar.   It reminds of Paradiso Perduto - vines and brick walls.

The interior.   Similar to what you see when you visit an ancestral house.  Simple and exudes a vintage vibe.

We were greeted by warm smiles from the staff.   Ate Jinkie gave is a lil overview of the dishes they will serve.

¶ Seafood Paella.  This was the first dish served.  This got me giddy as it's really photogenic.   The seafood on top creates a lovely contrast of colors.  And did i mention that this is ginormous!  Ate Jinkie said this is good to 15 to 20 people.

I haven't eaten a lot of Paella in my lifetime.  I always see this in every family gathering / fiesta / soiree I've been to.  For some reason,  I always say "Pass".   Personal preference,  i guess.    I tried a couple of spoonfuls of CL's Paella.  What's noticeable is the texture of the rice.  I can tell that it was cooked perfectly (Grams is the queen of cooking ze perfect "maligat"  rice).   Flavor wise,  i think it is a spoonful shy of salt and pepper.   Overall,  this falls under the " Just Okay" category.

¶ Beef Kansi with Batwan.  This is Iloilo's answer to Bulalo.   I'm gonna describe this in the simplest way i know.  Bulalo with subtle sour notes.  The broth is so good,  not cloying as the usual bulalo,  the batwan keeps the "sebo"  at bay.  The beef is cooked to perfection.  Tender and oozing with flavor.

¶ Baby Back Ribs.  This was the crowd favorite.  Fall-off-the-bone tender meat,  marinated with a concoction of sauces.  The meat is so tender,  it melts in your mouth.  The mango sauce drizzled on top makes an interesting flavor contrast.   Gah, this is sooo good!  I can probably finish one order with three cups of rice.

¶ Kadyos.   Also known as K.B.L. (kadyos,  baboy, langka) is a staple on every Ilonggo household.  What makes this dish unique is the usage of Batwan as the souring ingredient.

Batwan is a green sour fruit commonly ised in Negrinese Cuisine.   The fruit is a relative of Mangosteen and is indigenous to the Philippines (commonly found in Bohol and Leyte).   The fruit is round in shape,  greenhish in color which turns yellowish when mature.   It has a sour taste hence this is used as a souring agent in making sinigang.

Kadyos is a stewed pork dish that comprises of pork,  young green jackfruit and pigeon pea (kadyos in the vernacular).  The last time I've had KBL was 20 years ago.  A relative lives in Iloilo and i was in exile.  The broth sports a aubergine hue due to the usage of beans,  the taste is similar to sinigang but with less sour notes.  This was just okay for me (im not a fan of beans and i only like jackfruit when cooked in coconut milk or when Lola makes minatamis na langka).  Same category as the Paella.

Lunch at Lupe was satisfying.  It took me massive amounts of self-control not to eat too much rice (yes,  im talking to you...Ribs).

Thank you,  Café Lupe.   Your ribs are wicked good!

Cafe Lupe's outdoor chill and hang out area for friends and families can really make you feel at home with its coziness and casualness.

We ordered buckets of beer and on the side pulutans like Tokwa't Baboy, Chili Cheese Fries and Pork Sisig that all tasted really delicious and tasty.

The overlooking view inside the cafe was so beautiful at night and there's a videoke pub on the side named A One which you can also check out.

I used to love Cafe Lupe Antipolo before they transferred locations. It is unfortunate, though, that I am making this review based on my last visit on their new location, which coincidentally happened to be my birthday.

To start off, the new location is better, it's flat and still has an overlooking the Metro Manila view, though the view now is mostly just houses if you look from the ledge. At their prior location, you have to go three or four floors up (and the elevators are not working sometimes, and it's creepy for some reason) but the view is stunning, especially during sunset.

My last visit was July 2015 with two of my other girlfriends. We were there for late lunch and cocktails. Here's the run down of my worst bday celebration ever:
1. A lot of things were out of stock for a Saturday afternoon.
2. They were watching afternoon drama at channel seven and when we asked them to change it after an hour to sports or to an MTV channel, the server hesitated, saying nanonood daw yata ung kabilang table. For goodness' sake , this is a pricey resto-bar, if people wanted to watch those goddamned teleseryes, they should watch it at home. People are looking at it coz it's what up there.
3. Only two tables have customers in them, but somehow we had to wait a while for the servers to notice that we're calling them and flailing our arms. They were all too busy huddling up, exchanging whispers all while the tv is blaring afternoon drama.
4. Their POS system was offline for a Saturday afternoon.

But because I had so many good times with them before, I'm willing to give them another go, if maybe just to try out their new KYVs. But not anytime soon.

Price: 300-350
Must try: I used always go here for the Mexican food, so Margaritas and nachos.

We got to Cafe Lupe in time for sunset - their location gives one an awesome view overlooking Manila. Just don't mind the Jollibee sign 128514

We weren't too hungry so we just ordered crispy cheese sticks and chicken quesadilla. They were both delicious! The cheese sticks were crispy, as promised by its name. The cheese was practically oozing out, and the marinara dip it came with was a nice complement.

They didn't scrimp on the filling in the quesadilla, again delightfully cheesy and meaty. I thought it was especially good paired with the sour cream dip.

We would have stayed longer but we were driven out after a while due to a huge group of rowdy kids. 128542 If only some parents kept a better eye on their kids!!!

A great way to spend your night here at Cafe Lupe, I had a very relaxing evening, with an incredible view of the city.

Last night the place wasn't crowded that much. The ambiance is very relaxing and a great band was performing, feels like your at beach party in Boracay.

But, I got some concerns with the service. I'll ask you is it that hard to cook fries? We ordered some fries for starters and it took an hour before it came to us. I'm not being rude but, is that really that hard? And besides that, their menu?! I saw the price of JackCola at there menu, it was listed there thats it's worth 100php per glass, but in my receipt it was noted there, thats its 150php. I'm not being cheap or what just clarify your menu. Besides its not a big issue for me. Just concerned with future customers reactions. Just straighten it up.

All in all, even with the flaws , I like the place. Very relaxing a must place to try.

The place (with a scene of Manila city lights) the performers, and service was good. Especially their food and drinks, Chicharong Bulaklak and Sizzling Sisig were great combos with hard drinks like Johnny Walker and Jack Daniels. 128077128076127867127865

128078The staff are not familiar of the menu items
128078Food is not worth the wait

Hubby and I had a night out last summer of 2012 in antipolo. When we were still bf/gf this is we're we usually go and when we got married and had our kids we seldom go here.So that night we decided to go for a night out without kids.Us time what we called it.It was our first time and first thing before you go to cafe lupe make sure you know how to drive because their parking lot was crazy its like a stiff road up and down it roller coaster ride and glad hubby was a good driver lol. Then aftr we parked we went to their tube like elevator and you can see the beautiful view of antipolo. overlooking what we called it.It was a great view especially if you want to drink and have a good chat with loved one and friends. They also have a band at cafe lupe but it was still very early when we arrived so we haven't seen them performed. We ordered a soft beefy tacos which was quite pricey but it really taste good, nakakabitin lang. Then a glass of margarita for me and chicken burrito that taste good too. They also have wifi there.Good service too.
