Christmas is just around the corner and my mom's all excited with the holiday decors, lights and sounds scattered all over the metro. She's been wanting to go to Powerplant for some time now, so we decided to spend our family Sunday bonding here, just in time for the mall's grand Christmas designs. This is also the reason why we had the chance to grab food at Via Mare 128522

The restaurant was full even though it was already well after lunch time. Upon entering, there wasn't anyone who welcomed us and asked how many seats we needed, which was a slight turn off for me from a customer service standpoint.

Eventually, the store manager approached us and asked us to wait, standing, and she'll inform us when a table is freed up. Since they didn't have a waiting area, my parents, brother and I stood awkwardly in one corner. Luckily, we didn't have to wait long and we were eventually ushered to our seats.

We ordered their Inasal, Dinuguan, Pansit, and Bibingka with Laguna Cheese and Salted Duck Egg. I only got to taste the Pansit and Bibingka, and a bit or the Dinuguan as I wasn't that hungry yet. Everything tasted fine--nothing out of the extraordinary. I would have wanted the Bibingka to be softer, fluffier and more butter-y though.

Ambiance-wise, the seats were too near each other, that we can barely get on our seats, because of the tight space from one table to the next. I can also hear almost everything the folks on the table next to ours were talking about.

The saving grace here is that some of the waiters were attentive enough even though there were only a few of them. Food was served quickly, and my family had a nice dining experience which is what's most important. 128522

Their ever popular Molo soup, Dinuguan & Liempo are heavenly. Price is reasonable. Prompt & courteous service crew.

Bibingka and puto bumbong were delicious. Best in Manila, in my opinion.

Crispy binagoongan was a pleasant surprise. Perfect lunch item.

Would have rated them 4/5 but service was poor. We were the second group to be seated. The restaurant just opened for brunch. There was an area that smelled of dogs. I don't mind as i have dogs but wow, how could that have happened? And at opening? Did they clean last night? Our table had leftover sauce from the day before I would assume...Unless they were open for early breakfast.

Service was poor as mentioned. Had trouble calling the attention of the waiters as they were always away or grouping in an area looking at something outside. And they don't feel like they are up for the job of waiting on anyone.

What happened, via mare?

I used to eat here a lot with my grandma. There were only 3 choices for her every time we're in a mall and this was among her top 3. This is also where we bring balikbayans every time anyone comes home to visit. My grandma loves this restaurant so much, anywhere there's Via Mare that's where we end up. I have so much fond memories of this restaurant growing up, it brings me so much nostalgic memories.
I probably have yried half the dishes on their menu but my ultimate favorite would be their Pancit Luglug and Bibingka (with quezo de bola). On hungry days, I add Sago't gulaman. Wow. The photo above has guinataan halo halo but the gata isn't that malapot. Its a bit malabnaw. I like my bilo-bilo and the gata a bit thick and creamy. My son loves the sinigang na baka and my husband is such a fan of mga bibinka, puto bumbong and the halo halo so this restaurant is a perfect choice on some days.
Hopefully service improves too. I noticed that this restaurant has seasoned waiters - which is good. But hopefully service gets a bit faster.

During December, I always see to it that I visit Via Mare after office hours to buy bibingka. Just to give me the Christmas vibe, I guess. This particular bibingka is what I like because of the salted egg on it. Feeling ko special lang sya even though other bibingkas have salted egg on them too. 128513

ordered two of my favorites..

the palitaw was superb. too full to finish the 3pc.

the guinoumis was good. well, it would have been better if they served more milk the first time. i asked the first waiter why it was only 3/4 full and he said it's really like that. too bad i didn't get his name. i called another waiter and asked the same question, he took my drink and returned it full na (pictured). forgot to get his name too. hehe anyway, everytime i order this drink, their glass gets smaller.

just an after thought, my pop-in-law noticed that this resto in a particular time last night was full of chinese people. coincidence?

Got me a plate of Oyster Rockefeller, Sirloin Tapsilog & Tokwa't Baboy

Ambiance: just your typical via mare coziness. A lot of old waiters and old customers.

Service: 128077128077 very experienced waiters. They recognize their regular customers.

Food:
Sirloin Tapsilog: 2 eggs, cup of garlic rice, atchara and sirloin tapa. MASYADONG MATIGAS.

Tokwa't Baboy: This is what I usually get here just because you can't really get Tokwa't baboy in Rockwell.

Oyster Rockefeller: served last and it was really hot. I think it lacked freshness .. The one I ate at Franco's was better but more expensive I think.

Comfort food :)

Good value for money.

Been dining here for years already with the family. At times service can be slow but I think service is improving. Maybe it was because the owner's present today. There were only 2 or 3 servers as the others were absent.

The owner was serving and very polite. The place was actually snappier than usual even with less people!

Great leading by example :)

This is my grandmother's favorite restaurant. We would always order pancit luglog, bibingka with queso de bola and my favorite palitaw.

Whenever balikbayans visit, this is the place where we take them. Never fails.

Hopefully, service improves.
