It was just a small place, but the ambience is nice and perfect for tapas and sangria with your partner or a small group of friends.

Salpicao - 5/5
The taste brought me back to my childhood days when my family's go-to place for birthday celebrations was Mingoy's

Gambas Al Ajillo - 5/5
Same with the salpicao...not the typical-trying-hard-gambas-taste, but definitely the authentic kind that makes you want to order another plate 128540

Paella Negra (Pequeña, good for 4 pax) - 4/5
It was a different Paella negra, which I liked. It was very rich and the mayo-mix topping made it even creamier. Not your typical Paella negra, for sure but I think it lacked something which I can't figure out what... Maybe I was just looking for Beso's Paella Negra which I loved because of the cilantro after-taste (biased on that one).

Ambience: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Food: 4/5
Overall rating: 4/5

Love love loved everything we ordered! 10084

Started our meal with beef salpicao, where the beef was so tender and juicy and the garlic to top it off... Simply perfection! Then we proceeded with their croquetas or deeped fried mashed potatoes. It was a good compliment to the beef salpicao.

Then came the mains. We got the lengua, creamy and cooked right. But the highlight was the paella negra! It was so creamy and tasty; it had the right amount of seafood in it. Everything went well together.

It was indeed a perfect lunch!!! 128076🏼

Yes, after all these years, I have never been to this well-loved paella place. I guess I'm not really much of a foodie (or I am just stuck in Kapitolyo-Ortigas-Fort area... which I am changing now).

Hello, Calderon!

The place looks so homey and the Real Living girl in me went crazy with the warm hues of the interiors. I love it!

Since we were already full from our last three stops (including Kool Kids which I have yet to blog), we decided to go for one paella for sharing. We went with the usual Paella Valenciana(PHP780 for Pequeno). We were supposed to order churros too but they ran out. :(

While waiting, we were given a wait basket of bread which J enjoyed. We didn't mind waiting too as we were busy playing Cards Against Humanity.

After 20 minutes (which the server mentioned beforehand), our paella was served. It was so photogenic! I had fun taking photos of it. It doesn't have a bad angle at all.

As for the the taste, it was delightful. It was flavorful and there was a generous serving of chicken, mussels and prawns. The rice was cooked well too. For zest, we drizzled some lemon juice.

I recall one of V's friends suggested the vegetarian paella. I will definitely try that next time.

Visited their 2nd branch in kapitolyo and still good old reliable spanish (underrated) go to restaurant. They have the best Beef Salpicao -- its a must order!

For this visit, (for a change) we ordered this -- Paella con Setas Manchego Y Esencia de Trufa and man it was awesome! I find this way better than their Paella Negra. I mean how can it go wrong? Paella that has manchego cheese and truffle is just too good. It doesn't contain any meat or seafood just some mushroom and veggies so make sure order another dish that can go well with it like the salpicao. Its a bit pricier though at 1120php but good for sharing. We were 3 and we we didnt get to finish it. Good for 4-5 folks perhaps.

Other must orders in Calderon:
1/ Beef Salpicao
2/ Lengua
3/ Gambas

Oooooh please don't forget to get a bottle of wine of course!

Good food but on the expensive side. I tried the chorizo pasta (with sunny-side up egg - good idea), churros and cappuccino. It was a good dining experience. One serving of the churros is good for sharing. Maybe the pasta too but I finished the whole thing because I was hungry haha

For 30years we were colonized and owned by the spanish. Their regime sprouted spanish culture, tradition and ther infamous savory cuisine in the country. (Enough with history hehehe128512). Even though filipinos succesfully gained independence, spanish's complex and sophisticated method of preparing food remains. Calderon undoubtedly captured this section of our past and represented through their spanish cocina in kapitolyo pasig. This small and yet cozy cocina offers variety of food with genuinely spanish flavor. They're cocina is like a frozen fragment of our past that you can taste and enjoy.

Their best seller and sought after dishes are Paella Negra, Cordero Adobado and their Caldereta Española.

*Paella Negra - priced at 780. Sticky rice soaked in squid ink. From the looks of it, it's pitch black. It's black all over the pan down to the last grain. This is not the only dish we ordered and diffinitely not the only dish in the table, this is the one that stood out. The flavor was fantastic. The rice was oozing with squid essense, it was like they were fermented over time to come up with this insanely flavorful taste. Every spoonful was heaven128060.

*Cordero Adobado - priced at 610. Lamb chops cooked so well, the meat is so tender. As their menu says "Cooked twice for that flavorful experience" damn right they are128526. This reminded me of my father's adobo. Every bite feels like home. It's so flavorful. Of all dishes this one hits closer to home128147.

*Caldereta Española- priced at 480. Pot of goodness. The sause was thick, packed with the goodness of meat, vegetable and spices. They've complimented each other in the pot. They made their caldereta so intense you will definitely ask for a plate of rice to appreciate it with.

Calderon is gastronimically superb. Their food really speaks for their name. Make no mistake, this cocina is worth your time and will consume you. Good place, good food. Thank me later128060.

My friends and I had a get together last february, we passed by Kapitolyo so we decided to try some food there. We parked in front of Mad Mark's because that was the only space plus we decided to try Mad Mark's. But when we got inside, we couldn't decide what to eat so we figured we could just walk to see other food places. Before Calderon wwe checked and passed by, i think, 3 or 4 restos.

When we got to Calderon, we just wanna see the menu first but they already gave us menu and water and the waiter is already there to take orders. Seriously. So there's nothing we can do but order.

We ordered 4 meals and our bill was 1800. We were fucking shocked.

The food was just a bit ordinary. I don't see nor taste any difference. The one meal tastes beef steak and the other tasted mashed potato. But the name was in spanish. So we thought the taste will be as different as it's name.

Tried the paella and it was worth the wait. Their selection of wines (by the bottle) is good and affordable. For dessert we tried their sansrival, was surprised because it's the best one I ever tasted. Really nice place too! I'd definitely bring my my friends/family here.

I was craving for paella the past few days. Mike and I finally got the chance to eat at Calderon. We had paella con setas, beef salpicao, and Sangria. 5 stars both for paella and salpicao. The salpicao was 900+ good for 4 people, and the salpicao was 300+ good for 2 people. The paella was so yummy! As for the Sangria, I didnt like it. it didnt taste like one.128529We will definitely come back! We're planning to try the Chorizo Pasta and Callos on our next visit.

I have yet to go another time to give it 5 stars. Based on the paella we had and on the Habichuelas I ordered, their food tastes authentic. Good ambiance, too. Once inside you kind of forget you're in Kapitolyo 128516 Weird lang they were playing Bossa Nova in a Spanish resto. Waiters were very respectful and alert. So yes, my husband and I will be back. And next time I hope we get to try some wine.
